  1. Cadets have at least one change premiering in Caspar tomorrow, which addresses one item mentioned previously on this thread. That's all I'll say. As to the deposing the Queen section, I was thinking while watching last night's ensemble that they could improve that somewhat with a fairly simple thing: When she first comes down the stairs, she is trailed by 8 guard spinning weapons. At they end of the opener, before "Just" starts, those 8 guard are also immediately surrounding/behind her, between her and the balance of the corps. So those members already form something of a House Guard for the Queen. Make that more clear to the audience by having each of them wear a large, simple white shoulder sash (similar to below), or a large white lacy jabot, or a white ruff. Stick with white, because it matches the Queens wig and ruff, which are ripped off. Then, when the mobs starts removing the Queen's wig and ruff, also have some of them rip the sash/jabot/ruff off of each House Guard. No one is marching in any form at that point, so it should be easy to assign a few people to do that. This way, the mob violence is more clearly directed at the trappings of the Monarchy, as opposed to the physical female who happens to be the monarch.
  2. You missed the start of the last line apparently. So I guess we should have no laws either, since people can still break them.
  3. How would you propose they enforce it? Staff members entering every room every half hour to make sure no one decided to leave his air mattress and climb into bed? I suppose they could also build walls between bus seats for those long rides so no one can physically touch the person next to them. I suppose they could only let one person use a bathroom or shower at a time to avoid any problem, if they want to give up hours of rehearsal time. You CANNOT completely stop every jerk (for lack of a better word that can be typed here) from being a jerk over 90 days 24/7 contact with the rest of the corps. Period. You can try, but there is a limit on what you can do. How you deal with the issue afterwards is another issue.
  4. I can propose one virtue: elimination of the distractions caused by romantic entanglements and attentions (for the most part).
  5. The mother's letter specifically stated "we requested that they offer us a settlement"
  6. The same way I usually feel about most threads related to Cadets for the past four years.
  7. And just to bring it back specifically to Cadets: this is Day 2 of 3 in the same housing venue their housing venue is the show venue tonight they are performing last tonight So no excuses.
  8. However, doesn't that also mean that after they perform they can get on the road hours earlier to their next venue? So conceivably they would arrive and get floor time much earlier in the night/morning than higher-performing corps, and if that is the case, those corps should be able to take advantage of that fact by waking at dawn and beginning rehearsals earlier than higher-performing corps, who sometimes don't really start work until 9 am because they only rolled into town around 5 or 6 am.
  9. Solution: Keep them zipped! The pre-season uniform reveal showed that nearly everyone thought the red velvet jackets looked great [though I think they would have looked even better if the back was straight across like a normal jacket, and not draped down on one side]. Don't lose that element of classiness and appeal to show off an unattractive blue shirt covered in sequins, especially since unzipping the jacket makes it drape ridiculously! You gain nothing dramatically - it's merely a change for the sake of change alone - and yet you lose the clean visual line and aesthetic appeal of the jacket. As to the yellow, which is not actually part of the blue shirt but is sort of any extra piece of cloth stitched or pinned on ... either forget it (like the blue undershirt), or adjust it lower down so it shows a few inches or more below the jacket the entire show. Frankly, you might as well just issue them traditional gold cummerbunds - just leave the jacket loose on top, rather than tucked inside.
  10. While this certainly has an impact the lower down the ladder you go competitively (as Garfield pointed out), I hardly think it's having much of any impact (if at all) on the Cadets this season, especially since they are essentially sitting in the same position (relative to other corps) that they have been the last two seasons. So far, their performance timing this season: Gone last: 2 Gone one from last: 3 Gone two from last: 4 Gone three from last: 2 Gone four from last: 0 Gone five from last: 1
  11. Just don't try to design a show around that concept.
  12. Caught their show last night at MetLife stadium. Felt that the musicians played very well with what they were given. Other than that, I'll just say that ... I really liked their 2018 show!
  13. Unfortunately, I didn't really see any Cadets merchandise that was very appealing. It continues to be a weakness of theirs, in my eyes at least.
  14. Parking: A+ (slightly confusing for newcomers because the State Fair is also occurring in part of the parking lot; did not charge for parking) Tickets: B (unsure why they don't allow for "print at home" tickets instead of having to go to "will call" window) Seats: A (padded seats, padded backs; somewhat tight squeeze) Visual: A+ (my section was lowest level and centered on 50 yard line, but visual lines seem fine in all sections that were open) Acoustics: A- (during the encore - the ONLY unplugged portion of the evening - you could hear a decent reverberation after release; though planes landing at Newark could be frequently seen flying over, they weren't very obtrusive audibly Concessions: C+ (standard stadium fare (water, seltzer, soda, beer, coffee, and various greasy food items) all at exorbitant prices, but with fairly short lines. But frankly, that's still probably preferable to most people than the extremely long lines and uncertain quality you get from a parent booster group from the local high school running concessions - though you'd rather your dollars go to them than MetLife). Bathrooms A: (large enough for a pro football game, so plenty big enough for a DCI show, and generally clean, though I noted soap dispensers seemed empty) Host Facilities: A (it's an excellent facility for the host corps, which rolled in around 5:30 am and spent the day there. They got floor time; use of the visitor locker rooms for showers and changing; a segregated parking and set-up area inside the gates, as opposed to outside in the main parking lot like everyone else, and a pro-level turf field to rehearse on all day; only real hiccup is that they ordered lunch through the stadium caterers (in part because they also had a few score of high schoolers there for a Music is Cool camp) and the lunch was not there when it was supposed to be, but it came within an hour). Negatives: the inherent sense of emptiness in an 82,500 seat venue, especially at an early season event within only 3 Finalist corps. Cost to the Cadets? No idea. They probably work a package deal with the USBands use of the stadium during Autumn. They would certainly have a greater return at the gate later in the season when a better crowd is more likely to come - a TOC show would be ideal., but they already host Chester, PA during the late season swing.
  15. That little cell to the ENE looks ... wet. posted from the DrumScorps app
  16. Music City. As a few drops of rain start to come posted from the DrumScorps app
  17. Best show from Surf in quite a while. Played serious, not for laughs, even though a lighthearted and super colorful theme. Will love seeing that show again throughout the season. Great job! posted from the DrumScorps app
