Alright the Cavies thread has me going down the rabbit hole on these because there's something wonderfully exposed about the percussion books with everything else stripped away that just makes the lines sparkle and gets you noticing other things. The one that started this for me:
-
The tenors doing those delicate spill sounds under the voice overs for Somewhere....You'll Find me. It's just a wonderfully nuanced and controlled dynamic and tempo changes movement. The front ensemble writing really stands out in this video too.

aw chea.... Some tasty to go with my lunch.

I was worried a few times reading the lede, this was going to be about the heart, the heart, the heart, the heart.... I'm not clickinging through two or three times just in case.

I was listening again and focusing on the percussion and that meets every criteria of a Sanford winning line. 1. Stupidly hard writing 2. Performed stupidly clean 3. With stupidly good musicality 4. Stupdily consisistent through the season. I was stupified. Anyone know if there's a 'just the percussion' recording like Phantom did in 2010?

Starting this because heck why not! Also, in my occasional scry of corps merch stores to add to my pin collection, I found Pacific Crest had one. I got unwarranted giddiness when seeing a shipping notice from Oceanside today. The upward trajectory for this corps has been super fun to watch. I’d like to think that’s translating to more auditions and talent looking ti be a part of this upswing. Will they push into the top 12 at last? If they wanted to be memeable, they could go with a show title if “Pacific Specifics” with facts about the Pacific Ocean featured. And the preshow with a recording of stadium announcers mangling “Presenting their 2024 show, Pacific Specifics, DCI is proud to present, Pacific Crest!”

Not quite as good as the Borkcoats Tilt. But good.

A Great Article on The Cadets

[insert Harry Kim joke here] -
Yup. And they did fantastic.

That seems an odd prize to be pitching at a DCI show. But I’d be in. I grew up in North Indiana and for a hot minute thought about storm chasing/meteorology as a career.

Yeah guard work has changed so much since then. But that's still impressive for the precision. Each rifle popping in that line seems to hover at the exact same spot as the one before it. It'd be fun to have a throwback call worked in. And then let the designers figure out what a 'modernized Rockford file' might look like to follow it later in the show.

DId someone mention Phantom Regiment and Dinos? https://thephanshop.com/products/drummer-dino-in-space-tee

Loved that show. Did you freeze fram when they show the DM and find yourself in the crowd?
-
You need to return their call. They want your pasture field for it.

OT (sort of): Joni Mitchell

This is true. I was struck by Tracy's absolute comfort in singing that song and being on stage now. Her younger years didn't have that comfort. That it came while sharing that stage and song with another made it even more awesome. -
Yeah Avon and Carmel are of similar cultures inasmuch as they're that rivals in the same city. The intensity of what they do in the Fall for band season + their scholastic WGI demands are a LOT on those bodies, adding a summer season is a physical ask that some students might throw themselves into with youthful exuberance without realizing the cost its going to have 10 years later. Dunno if they'd open that policy to DCI, ISSMA and BOA, WGI scholastic, WGI independent....pick any two that don't happen concurrently sort of thing. Cause that doesn't contain their talent pool to their programs primarily heh.
