  1. The Colts are amazing; their brass line needs to play much more during the show. Magnificent performance all around.
  2. I’m not a fan of Pacific Crest this year; I usually am. The brass ensemble is uncharacteristically sloppy and I keep wanting more and not getting it. The visual is very well done though. Those kids put their hearts into it though.
  3. The Crossmen have some phasing and phrasing issues in the trumpet section but overall this is a talented group. The visual is very ambitious and the percussion is solidifying.
  4. The Academy! Yes! This brass line is properly balanced! They use less mellophones than the others and this helps immensely. Their percussion section is above average and the visual, while simple, is performed very well.
  5. Music City has an enticing visual program and their drum line is very good. This brass line is well balanced and well coached. The tuba section is top notch and does not need synth “assistance.”
  6. This is the first time I have ever seen the Spartans and they are impressive. They picked a repertoire which isn’t too hard for them which is important. The mellophones are way too heavy though. Give half of the mellophones trumpets to play and the balance would be dead solid perfect.
  7. Yes — but it might be nice if he stopped talking and took a breath on occasion. 😆
  8. I cannot believe how much better Cincinnati Tradition is. This show is far cleaner than it was at Mason a month ago. The percussion line is tight. My only small issue is with the brass line. They play very aggressively but the trumpets need to kick up the volume a lot.
  9. Absolutely — but please understand I am an extremely biased Cavalier alumnus. 😆
  10. I will be at the Centerville competition in person. It’s my second live show of the year but it will be the first time seeing my little brothers from Rosemont. Tonight I predict The Cavaliers will break 90 as well as establish their percussion line as Sanford Award-worthy. Also, the brass book is cleaning up nicely and the volume on the fff hits is through the roof.
  11. The degree of difficulty must be high to be competitive these days.
  12. It’s our corps song — with different words than Semper Paratus but the same music.
  13. It’s your time, my little brothers. Make me proud!
  14. What matters in any caption — or subcaption — on the score sheet at DCI Finals is NOT the entire body of work a particular corps has or has not achieved to that point. What matters is the corps’ performance THAT NIGHT ONLY. Judges should NOT take previous scores into consideration.
  15. Tonight’s order of finish will depend on one thing: How close will The Cavaliers’ brass line be to Crown’s brass line?
