A Great Article on The Cadets
ykw replied to Terri Schehr's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
And it's not in question that a judgment against the Cadets wouldn't get the plaintiff any money. The corps is broke. -

Yes, nearly all plaintiffs file civil suits to get money. -

The "rumor" is more akin to shenanigans usually limited to the first day in April. -

Of course it's about the money. -
I'm watching the Ravens-Bengals game at the moment, and I'm reminded that the Baltimore Ravens were once the Cleveland Browns, before Art Modell moved the team to Baltimore from Cleveland after the 1995 season. The NFL later granted a new franchise to Cleveland that is known as the Cleveland Browns. The team now playing in Cleveland wears the same uniforms and helmets as did the team that moved to Baltimore. The NFL attributes team history of the Cleveland Browns from 1946 to 1995 to the team currently playing in Cleveland, not the franchise that Modell moved to Baltimore. So... suppose a sexual assault lawsuit is filed based on an incident involving a Cleveland Browns staffer in 1982, would the team now known as the Cleveland Browns be liable? Or the Baltimore Ravens?

I'm curious to see where in Reading this show will be. Wilson? Exeter? I know it won't be Muhlenberg because that school has a grass field.

Yes, it looks like DCI axed the Lynn and Quincy shows. In 2023, Cadets marched in both the Bristol and Wakefield 4th parades, and the Connecticut Hurricanes were in the Wakefield parade. I can't remember if Spartans or BAC appeared in these parades as well.

I agree. My point speaks to liability exposure. Cadets can thank the Roman Catholic church for covering up for years for priests who diddled with altar boys, which prompted New Jersey to open the time window for everyone to file lawsuits for any kind of molestation charge. So if we're saying it's likely a corps will have to liquidate its assets and fold because of an alleged incident forty years ago, it won't be the last corps to fold. I think the Cadets were already in tough place anyway, because for a while they haven't seen by potential members as a "cool corps". Had they continued, Cadets never seemed poised to shift to a "WGI with Brass and Percussion (mixed by a soundboard)" corps, which it seems is what DCI in 2023 has become.

Or as Don Henley put it.... "Well, I coulda' been an actor, but I wound up here I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear Come and whisper in my ear Give us dirty laundry You don't really need to find out what's goin' on You don't really wanna know just how far it's gone Just leave well enough alone Eat your dirty laundry Kick 'em when they're up Kick 'em when they're down Kick 'em when they're up Kick 'em when they're down" -

I'm guessing that "short list" has been tapped every year since 2018. And it's now "tapped out." -
I wondered when someone would mention the problems with the management of the Erie Sports Center. https://www.yourerie.com/news/local-news/erie-sports-park-reopens-dome-after-temporary-closure/ However, it would appear that the code violations have been corrected. Does anyone know whether it's true that Cadets are under an agreement with the Erie Sports Center that doesn't expire until 2033?

Cadets could consider going the DCI all age route, wear their West Points, and perform shows without all the props and electronics. But would Cadets be able to attract potential members and fans? It seems like those who talk about "dream corps" are more charmed by wearing cool pajamas and the opportunity to roll around on the turf "emoting." Because that's what "cool" these days.

Do DCI corps actively recruit HBCU's
ykw replied to waliman4444's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I don't know if Cadets/CBrass still look to HBCUs for talent -- or was this more of an initiative of corps director(s) since removed? https://cadets.org/culture-cbrass -

Question -- was King Arthur supposed to be part of the guard? I didn't think I ever saw him ever spin a rifle or a flag. All he ever did was "emote" -

I keep hoping someday the Blue Stars do a show called "PROP STORY -- No prop gets left behind! Show premise: A Blue Coats prop winds up on another corps' equipment truck and they spend the whole show trying to reunite it with all their other props from over the years...
