  1. For me, a huge BC fan, it’s never about narration per se. Almost all shows have some narration now. But DCI isn’t a narration competition. When narration becomes distracting, when it overpowers or worse dumbs down the creative message of a show—it’s bad. This was my complaint of Crown last year, and some of the cringiest Cadets shows. Session 44 is one of my all time favorite dci shows. Same with E=mc2. Narration played an essential story telling role, that supported the music and marching. The narration of this year’s BC show is at times way too central, and doesn’t help tell the story. but that is JMHO.
  2. BD will win by a full point. It’s just how DCI scoring works over an entire season.
  3. Session 44 is the only DCI show in which all the narration added to the story in a critical and important way.
  4. The show is everything you say. It’s just the same BD show we’ve seen over and over again. I’m not criticizing at all, it is Blue Devils.
  5. I am the biggest Bloo fan there is, just don’t love this show. I get that it’s technically abs artistically amazing. It’s just not for me.
  6. Just announced Bluecoats will be performing a stand still show tonight due to illness. Glad I don’t buy tix and sit in the 90 degree plus heat.
  7. Eh it’s all good. Seems these discussions have gotten less accusatory over the last couple of years, which is probably good. BD has dominated the activity for the past decade or so, it’s natural for people to want to talk about it.
  8. Not what I believe. It seems obvious at shows that the crowd favorites are Crown and Bluecoats, and Boston on the east coast. West coast is now all BD due to the loss of SCV.
  9. And yet people go to the movies, they just don’t go to see those movies. Pretty clear that’s what is happening in DCI, which is fine so long as you have corps that draw—and right now that seems to be Crown and Bluecoats.
  10. To me it’s more like Woody Allen. I love his movie. Singular. It’s (almost) always brilliant. Truly. But at some point the jokes on you.
  11. I hope not. But I trust that any new ending will be better than the current ending.
  12. Watched it. To be fair though he does think some of the criticisms and takes are legitimate and earned.
  13. Or the simple fact is, the situation is what it is and isn’t changing, so it’s just not an interesting topic anymore. Lots of people hated the old Oakland Raiders and for good reasons. But then you just came to realize that Oakland was who they were and it wasn’t an interesting controversy anymore.
  14. I can’t stream anything at the moment due to a known iOS bug.
  15. Crown seems to be in a literal no win situation. Their style and go to ideas are their unique identity. But that identity seems to hold them up from landing at the top. I do love this book btw. It’s amazing. Easily my favorite since Inferno.
  16. Their last two seasons have had strong concepts that at least had a basis for legit growth. The previous era of shows were so poorly conceived that by the time you got to the end of the season, no one seemed to care. The mannequins were the telephone pole that broke the camel’s back for me.
  17. Yes! The modern version of Machine! It would be an awesome left turn from the current run of concepts.
  18. Yeah. Seems this is our annual conversation. I have gotten to the point in which I really don’t care anymore. Placements are so predictable now that arguing about it seems pointless.
