  1. The only accurate post you've had on this thread... Cascades will have a quality product on the field and the kids are having a blast. I cant wait for the first show next week!
  2. Yeah that was in 2002. I think it was the San Antonio show, but I could be wrong. It was in our closer, the guard brought out these huge flags and Petrash got smacked in the nose...
  3. I know there was a Kelso show at least 2000-2002, cause I was there, I think there might have been one in 03 but I can't remember. There hasn't been one since though. Good memories at that show... Cascades are back in '09! Imagine...
  4. 84skyrydr, thank you so much for your contribution, every little bit helps. There is another way to donate to the corps. Anyone can join the NYMA, which is the parent organization to the Cascades. Simply go to http://www.nwyouthmusic.org/ or follow the NYMA link on the Cascades website and choose a sponsership level of anywhere from $25 - $1,000. There are benefits available depending on which level you choose. I'm putting out a challange to all NW drum corps alumni to join the NYMA for at least the $25 level. I'm sure all of you have at least $25 laying around that you could give to the corps rather than spending it at Starbucks for one month (they have enough of our money). This corps made me into the person I am today and I know it changed many of you as well. If we all joined, it would seriously reduce the amount of debt and help the Cascades get back on the road in 2009 and the future. I also encourage all fans, past and present parents, and supporters to join the organization and help restore this corps. Thanks, I'll get off my soap box now
  5. Yeah, he is a good kid...i had the pleasure of teaching him in high school. I don't remember one day when he didn't have a smile on his face. I don't think we ever got him into the drill at Mead, he would just play on the sidelines. As good a kid he is, its because he has very dedicated parents. They traveled to every show and helped him along. I don't think i've ever seen anyone more devoted to their son then they are.
  6. Bump for show day! The Cadets - Allentown, PA Santa Clara Vanguard - Santa Clara, CA Cascades - Seattle, WA Crossmen - San Antonio, TX Blue Knights - Denver, CO Glassmen - Toledo, OH Mandarins - Sacramento, CA Start time: 8:00 PM Its going to be huge! Any predictions?
  7. I'll be there!! and then will be heading to Pasadena on the 7th! I can't wait!!! Does anyone know where the corps are staying? I know Cascades will be at Hockenson up in Washington.
  8. I will add a quick word to this...one thing i feel greatly added to the sucess of the corps was that in the past we have had staff members from U of O, OSU, and UW that brought in college level talent and in 2002 especially we had a lot of "rook-outs" which helped with the overall talent level. When those staff members left the corps we got a lot younger and jwscv87 is right, the high schools do not let out until late june so where as other corps have already had 2-3 weeks of all-days Cascades only began their all-days on June 17th. The staff changes did affect the corps the last 4 years, in '04 we had 3 brass caption heads over the course of the season. The staff the corps has now are a majority Cascades vets who have a passion to see this corps suceed and I have no doubt that they will get the job done. Just give them time...
  9. Saturday at DATR should be very telling as to who will get the 17th spot. First time PC has been on the field in a major show since Allentown so we will see how they will measure up to Cascades, Troop and the rest. My thought is that the NW will represent in Semis!
  10. The first one that comes to mind is kind of like JediCadet's...In 2000 during Memorial Day Weekend after a very long day standing in hornarc I excused myself to go the bathroom. I was so physically and mentally exausted I just burst into tears the second i reached the bathroom and wanted to go home so bad. I knew I had a decision to make, whether to stay for the summer or quit and go home. I decided that if I was going to do this I had to do it well and stopped crying and went back to rehearsal... I marched for 6 years and only missed one show... in 2003...it was our first show in California and first time in 100+ degree heat after a short rather cool NW tour. We had a short reahearsal before the show that night but when I got up that morning I just felt weak and thought it would go away once i streached and warmed up. I continued to feel weak all day and it was getting close to the end of day runthough. We were waiting for the count off for the runthrough and I was standing at attention and I remember feeling the most tired I ever felt and then I blacked out... luckly a visual tech had been following closely behind me and caught my horn before it hit the ground. I was extremely dehydrated due to the lack of gatorade on tour that summer. That night at the show I drank a gallon of gatorade. Many, many others over the course of 6 years...blowing a tire on the way to finals in 2001...severe leg cramps my rookie year that literally completely siezed up both of my legs during Alldays in 2000...sleeping in a park across from the stadium in 2000 after arriving at our housing site to find another corps occupying it...oh yeah and in 2000 marching at prelims at a NE Div III Focus Show at 8:00AM that was covered in goose droppings, the hornile had to kneel during a portion of the show but I didn't feel as bad when I saw the guard! We went on first at prelims and went on last that night at 9PM ended up winning the show.
  11. Anybody know why Crossmen hold their horns so low when they are at horns down?
  12. For those of us stuck at work all day without the webcast... Any thoughts or minor reviews on the corps that have already performed??? Thank you!
  13. Back in my High School Spanish class we were watching a spanish movie and towards the end one of the main characters was dieing (very dramaticly and drawn out) and Adagio was playing. When I heard it I looked around the classroom to see if anyone else had recognized it and then I realized I was the only one...
  14. On the way home from Finals 2005 we were in Minnisota for an early morning rest stop and in the distance we could see a huge Jolly Green Giant statue. Too bad I didn't have time to get a picture. But I was looking for it online and can across this website of roadside attractions. www.roadsideamerica.com
  15. No lie.. Cascades bought a few of those horns in 2001. There were holes all over those things and a very inconvenient screw that dug into your playing hand. Far from the worse horns ever but those were pretty bad...
