  1. Love the field with no logo on the fifty and no graphics in the endzones!
  2. A public service post for people to share their at home drum corps vieiwing setups. Hope others will share their finds! Purchased from Amazon this week - New Dr J projector and a owlenz screen from Amazon for Less than $140. Last night was the first time I used it watching flomarching with a Roku connection. Connected it to the stereo. It was very good especially given the price!
  3. Sold!!! My. One ticket available for Friday and Saturday section 140 Row 18 - 45 yard line. Message me if interested.
  4. 2 tix, sec 138 Row 9, seats 9 and 10 (aisle) for Thursday, August 11. $100 for the pair includes shipping. Message me if you are interested.
  5. Check out corps websites. Some may still have finals tix for sale. Better tix and buying from the corps puts money in their pockets.
  6. Ralph McCauley was one of the Bluecoats Founders who lives in Florida. I understand he was at last night's show!
  7. Bloo was incredible! Hoping for a Kenetic leap forward tonight!!!
  8. I have enjoyed watching Crown's show on DCI live but in person this show is beyond amazing!!! So much to watch and listen to.
  9. I love innovative use of electronics (absolutely hate doubling of contra bass line by a synthesizer!) It is pretty amazing these groups can get sophisticated systems up and functioning in just a few minutes. However they must do all they can to make sure that everything is going to work properly each and every time if electronics are an integral part of the production. Often it seems when glitches do occur they seem to be rather simple problems that get fixed before the end of the show. Are the corps doing enough with pre-show checks (especially double checking cable connections) to insure a glitch free show?
  10. I am using my iPhone and Apple TV tonight instead of my mac. I don't seem to able to rewind like I can on my Mac. Help please?
  11. 2.7 million hits to the osu video in 4 days. Wish we could do that in drum corps!!!
  12. I was about to post the exact same thing. Crowd was throwing some babies too!!!
  13. A blank grid for the recap was up on the DCI website earlier today for this show. As the scores are tabulated, they are being uploaded to the grid. Open class corps, Surf, and Bluecoats scores have been posted but ordinals not necessarily correct.
  14. Sorry if I did not explain myself well. All I was trying to say was that in previous years it appears DAR was listed as net revenue under the revenue category with no DAR expense listed. It appears that in 2010 instead of listing DAR as net revenue that it appears that there is a listing for DAR gross revenue and a DAR expense. So if my observation happens to be correct, then there would be no real significant increase in both total revenue and total expense for 2010 because each increased by the DAR expense listed. So while on the 990 it may appear revenue and expenses were both higher in 2010, it may simply be a case of a change in how DAR was reported on the 990 and that BN did not have significantly higher revenue or expenses. Yes my anaysis of the DAR Income and Revenue is indeed conjecture but without judgement but stating "...that there was no restraint in spending" is conjecture with judgement attached. If you asked a board member of the BN "Why did you not exercise restraint in spending in 2010?" what kind of a response do you think you would receive?
  15. See my note above on why 2010 revenue and expenses seemed to be up in 2010 but really weren't. Holding the line on spending and building a cushion for the future is very challenging for a drum corps to do. Most run hand to mouth with most expense line items being difficult to cut without changing the program (shorter tour, shorter move-in, change staff to reduce staff expense - product suffers, etc.). Many expenses usually are increasing (gas prices, charter bus fees, airline travel, food price increases, etc.) . Don't see how you can make the statement "...that there was no restraint in spending." Pure conjecture on your part.
  16. A couple of thoughts about information being presented - Gross receipts does not really tell much and can just confuse the reader. For example an organization had $5,000,000 in bingo receipts which would be included in gross receipts and does not provide meaning. Meaning comes in the statement of revenue where the net proceeds of bingo are calculated. In my opinion, pulling data from Part III - Statement of Program Service Accomplishments is not a very good place to examine because often one does not really know where the data in this section comes from. I think (just took a quick look so someone can double check this) revenue and expenses were up in 2010 because DAR income was not netted and listed in revenue but an income line item was listed in revenue and and expense line item was listed in functional expenses. The change in report method overstates both revenue and expenses by 244,890. 0
  17. Just a bit of additional information about the information Dan presented about the Bluecoats. I am on the board of the Bluecoats so I am fairly familiar with the corps' financial picture. In 2009 the reduction in our net assets (fund balance) was largely due to a $74,000 reduction in bingo revenue and the writing off of old assets that still had value on the books. In 2010 bingo revenue was fairly consistent with 2009 bingo revenue, and our reduction in net assets (fund balance) was roughly equivalent to our depreciation expense. So from a cash flow perspective revenue basically matched cash expenses. In 2011 (990 filed but not yet posted by Guidestar) we experienced a drop in bingo revenue of about $70,000 which contributed to a reduction in our net assets (fund balance). In response to a bingo game whose profitability had dwindled to practically nothing, the Bluecoats board made the decision to purchase a building and move the bingo game. This became a prudent financial decision when the State of Ohio changed the bingo laws and allowed more than one organization's bingo sessions to take place in the same location. The building we purchased already had a bingo tennant as well as other rental income. So instead of paying to rent someone else's building for bingo, we are receiving income from renting our building and are building equity in an asset. In 2012 our bingo game once again became profitable in our new location. The finalized financials for the year will be presented at our annual meeting in January and should look decent. 2013 is already looking to be a good year financially for the corps. I won't go into details but can say as a board member I am excited by our finanical outlook for this season due to projected increased revenue in several categories (realistic projections and not pie in the sky projections). A note on Bingo in Ohio: Bingo revenue for most organizatigons operating games in Ohio have declined dramatically over the past several years. Many organizations have shut down their bingo games because they began operating the games at a loss. While bingo now only makes up a relatively small percentage of the Bluecoat's revenue, it is operating at a profit and is helping us build equity in an asset.
  18. On a Sunday in August in 1973 I was at church and was having some problems with my contacts. I had a neighbor drive me home. Phone was ringing when I walked in the door. It was my band director and he had been to a drum corps show the day before (The US Open Finals). The show had been rescheduled for Sunday because it was rained out on Saturday (Rain at the US Open? Imagine that!). The two people who had gone with him could not go on Sunday, and he called me to see if I would be interested in going. I went and was blown away. Became a fan. Attended my first finals in 1975. Marched with the Bluecoats in 1977. Founded and was the director of Limited Edition. Helped with Capital Regiment for three seasons during which time my daughter marched her first of six years in drum corps (She marched for 4 years with the Bluecoats and ended her drum corps career as guard captain in 2010!). Joined the Bluecoats BOD in the fall of 2009. Still amazed at how attending that one drum corps show when I was 13 effected my life!
  19. So first time in 20 years. Thanks for the info!
