  1. I’m also consistent in saying SCV is a sleeping giant this year but by design…in order for their comp and effect numbers to soar it has to be done perfectly. Hope it gets there but I don’t know at this point.
  2. More or less this…BD is big, loud, and clean but otherwise meh. Everyone else still has some gaps. I don’t get the vibe this is an unbeatable juggernaut BD program. outside of GE BD has been vulnerable across all captions…let’s see if anyone 2-5 is going to step it up these last two weeks.
  3. And here Is why you are wrong…it’s highly likely that there would have been less of a disruption via Covid last than what we are currently seeing. Vaccines last year provided much better overall protection to the strains at the time. Omicron variants spread far more easily and produce breakthrough infections, although much milder, at a vastly increased rate. Hence the disruption we are seeing. Also there was a much greater need to return to normalcy last year and instead they wrote it off. BOA, WGI, any number of smaller state and or regional circuits pulled it off. We can discuss if a shortened competitive season would have been more viable than a full blown tour…instead it was a completely missed opportunity.
  4. Was foolish not to have a competitive season…was I not clear
  5. Have you seen the black flies in northern Michigan…those things can bite through plywood.
  6. A month of everdays in Orlando was far worse than Texas. Ironman Louisville in August was far worse than any drum corps in Orlando or Texas….these kids are well trained and will be fine.
  7. It’s a rehearsal/practice environment…there’s an imbalanced power dynamic by definition.
  8. If it’s comfort we want then let’s talk about giving up gym floors and staying only in locations were the members have access to nice air conditioned hotel rooms.
  9. Maybe I’m biased after marching in Orlando and having years experience of endurance training on 90+ heat. It’s totally doable…. pain is temporary but pride is forever as it goes.
  10. By nature it’s a competitive activity in which time is the limiting factor. I believe the educational value of drum corps is vastly overstated but I get it because of relationships to high schools and universities. These kids sign up to compete and max out what they have been given in an extremely time limited scenario…and I would guess that many would state that as so. Hydrate with more frequent and quicker breaks…shift visual and ensemble blocks early in the day, etc. There is all sorts of cooling and spf grade fabrics that work quite well in hot and humid conditions. Condition and prepare for the environment…no need to avoid the swamp tour.
  11. I’ve done triathlons in 100F heat and marched in it as well…never said it’s easy or ideal but you can condition for it.
  12. Average scores would actually have the potential to add more bias into finals night since judges would know the spreads needed to make a placement shift happen or not.
  13. You people act like the kids are not conditioned for this heat and humidity.
  14. Let’s blame it on he who shall not be named and the introduction of scatter drill.
  15. I miss the golden days of RAMD and the old Current Events forums. That’s when discussions could be had with sincere open hostility instead of this sanitized passive aggressive trolling.
  16. The damp otter didn’t even know at Broken Arrow.
  17. Suncoast 88 was an easy 20 years ahead in programming. Star 93 single handedly redefined the direction of the activity Cadets 93 shear power and velocity plus the beauty of that Hymnsong. There is no Star 93 without Cadets. Phantom 93…this show has aged better than any other from the 90s. They win if there was another night the way that show was coming on. Blue Devils 94…redefined musical arrangements and staging over velocity/demand. Cavies 95…percussion ensemble and visual design. SCV 99 felt like the first show since Star 93 to refine the abstract and angst genre and the finals night product is the GOAT. BD ‘03 capstone design and performance of what what started anew in ‘91. Cavies ‘04…IHMO most cohesive show design I’ve ever seen. Performance wise not terrible either. Phantom ‘06…severely underrated BD ‘10…far better than ‘09 and that says a lot. Performance in every section was stellar and very abstract design. Cadets ‘11…brilliant design and ge…makes up for some performance gaps Crown ‘13…first 20 in brass since BD ‘04 and well deserved. Bluecoats ‘16…another show to redefine the activity in terms of costuming and prop integration SCV ‘18…GOAT
