  1. I've encouraged and discouraged kids when it comes to drum corps. A lot depends on the kid, and the corps they are interested in marching. I have absolutely discouraged kids from marching certain corps. But if I have a student that is 100 percent set on marching, I have no problem sitting down with them and finding the corps that will be the right match for them.
  2. I'm ready for the blow back from this, but all music judges should have to PROVE competency in percussion before they are allowed to judge music.
  3. I've been on panels with him, and he has judged a few of my groups. Always quality information.
  4. Not at all. My fault for not elaborating. I am tired of these so-called drum corps royalties being passed from corps to corps, being over paid and not delivering on a promised product. DCI could benefit greatly from a purge of all the dinosaurs and staff members these dinosaurs have enabled.
  5. e-AdjudicateAcademy Some of you really should consider taking a few of these courses.
  6. That has been directed at a different person in the picture. I believe it has been posted on facebook comments of the announcement. It has since been removed.
  7. You spelled predictable and boring wrong. SCV and Cavies had the same problem this season. I've seen both of those shows done better, by high school marching band.
  8. Those are literally the same people teaching drum corps now. Go research some staff bios. Top 12. Most groups have professional dancers teaching their corps now.
  9. Years ago this very much was the case. But DCI is far from what it was "back in the day". The education they receive now very much rivals the talent level of "actual musicians and dancers".
  10. Like it was said before. Nothing to do with the talent of the corps. Or how they structure rehearsals.
  11. How would that make it more competitive? As stated above, and been the practice for a few years, open class is allowed to compete in world championships if they want.
  12. I wonder how that happened... It's almost like 2 top 12 DCI groups and a BOA grand national finalist group didn't want the world to know what they had done.
  13. It is like people forgot the majority of open class corps and a few world class members have never been able to field a full ensemble...
  14. I swear I only see people complaining about narration when The Cadets do it. (yes this is a hasty generalization)
  15. I don't know about that. I've heard Some Corps have an amazing horn line this year. Could be their year!
  16. Kinda same thing happened to me early in my career. Not quite as serious. Had the band at an away game and happened to spot one of our female trumpet players crying. I mouthed the words "are you ok", to which she shook her head no. I motioned for her to come down to me and she did. She told me what was going on, then a female chaperone escorted her to the bathroom and back. She was fine after. Got to school Monday. A parent reported they saw me making sexually suggestive faces at a female member in the band. When the student saw, she got upset and I made her come out of the stands. I then screamed at her and sent her to the bathroom. WTF. So many interviews later, of course I was cleared. Student was upset because of boyfriend drama and "concerned parent" wasn't a parent of a current student. Her student had graduated years ago and she was there to "support" the school.
  17. I've never understood the point of this "holiday".
  18. Any speculation? I'm thinking show announcement...
  19. The same DCA corps I mentioned before would take our "tuition" payments on Friday, Then when Saturday breakfast rolled around, we would often times have to give more money so they could provide "lunch" and "dinner". which were usually the same thing.
