What's interesting is, if we look at the Mandarins trajectory, outside of BD/SCV who have been top four mainstays since the 70s...............the Mandarins are following the same path as the other five top corps. Let's remember it wasn't too long-ago corps like Crown, Bloo, BAC were earning their stripes and climbing the ladder to the top. They had to learn to crawl, walk, run..........become a finalist, then learn to consistently place top 6-7, then top five and onto medaling. We are witnessing the Mandarins do the exact same thing. It's really no different. Unless I am missing something.

Facts! Poppy was hilarious and will always be a part of the DCP family. How could someone not laugh when he would give live updates from his drum corps watch parties lol. Sometimes I felt there was more going on at his parties than just viewing drum corps shows, and I was going to lose my innocence just reading his comments LMAO. And of course, one of the most famous phrases in the history of DCP........... "Those naughty little Devils did it again." We miss you Poppy.

It was quite the topic on DCP few years back. I think it is the same person. I am sure someone here can chime in with more info.

It was something that happened back in 2022. Exactly what it was that got him banned, idk. I do remember someone here on DCP saying they saw Poppy on one of those TV talent shows, America's Got Talent or X-Factor???

If I lost respect for every corps, team, organization, franchise, business, corporation, etc., that had someone representing them say something that was deemed disrespectful, then I would have no respect for anything. I am not saying Wayne Downey was in the right. But every fanbase/organization has people who say and/or do things that are out of line, shocking, and inexcusable, to include the very corps you openly root for on this site. Does that make everyone associated with that corps bad, no it doesn't. Back in 2023 on our flight from LAX to Indy, two people from a particular corps, (one of them was previously a tech for that corps based off the convo) sat behind me and my wife on the plane, and for the majority of that four-hour flight, proceeded to trash every corps that was seeded above them, and every judge that had anything to do with DCI. But I still stood and gave that corps a standing ovation all three nights in Indy. I wasn't going to let two dummies speak for that entire corps. And let's keep it real. While social media is the land of self-righteousness, a lot of us on this site have probably said way worse than what Wayne said, and we are thanking our lucky stars that our worst moments are buried and didn't get played out in front of the masses.

Mandarins will be in 7th tomorrow night. However......... Looking at the spreads from last night and tonight, Mandarins will be in the rear-view mirror of 5th and 6th. Can't wait for tomorrow!

Keep an eye on Mandarins and Troopers drums. Last head-to-head in Pasadena, Mandarins were 0.3 behind BD in percussion.
