Lol. Bro, this guy was massive! When he came around the temperature dropped 20 degrees, because he blocked out the sun lol. He wasn't a Drill Instructor, but he was one of the Cadre that "Greets" you when you first arrive at boot camp on the bus. My bus pulled up, and immediately the Cadre start yelling and screaming for us to get off the bus and causing mass chaos, the Winnebago Chief started rocking the bus from the outside, almost tipped it over......by himself. You weren't laughing in his face. I don't care how rebellious of a teenager you were LMAO.

When I was in high school, I thought and said the same thing, that I would laugh if some "military dude" yelled at me. Until I went to boot camp and this Chief who was built like a Winnebago got in my face. I did a lot of stuff......laughing wasn't one of them.

The worst I ever saw was when I was stationed in Sasebo Japan back in 1999. A 36 year old Marine stationed in Iwakuni Japan was dating a 15 year old Japanese girl. Sad part was nothing could be done. Japan's legal age of consent was 13 years old at that time (I think it's 16 now)..........and also back in 1999, US citizens weren't prosecuted for crimes against minors in foreign countries. That law didn't pass until 2003. The frightening part was they got married and had kids. Absolutely disgusting.

True. 2019 I was happy either way with BD or Bloo. Both were deserving. Fans were the ultimate winner in 2019 with two gold medal winning shows.

The Navy should have been saying that saying back in 1991. The "Tailhook" scandal shook the Navy to its very foundation. By the time I got to Boot Camp in 1997, we were receiving training and lectures on it.

I don't remember anyone falling. But I do remember during the "Fight Club" drum break, the Guard was lifting a guy into the air, and I don't think they had a good grip, there was a little slip as they didn't get him fully extended into the air. But personally I don't think they should have been dinged in score, because it was a good recovery. And multiple people on this site have told me it's not about the mistake, it's how you recover.

Oh I hear you. I have ALOT to say, but like you for the most part have steered clear of this convo. I just hate when the actions of a few ruins it for others. If raising age limits like what's being discussed was to be implemented, your boy would have been impacted, and he would have missed on a great experience last summer with Pac Crest since he would have been "Underage" In the Navy, we have a saying........"Don't be that guy!"......... Wish I could scream that to everyone, and they all listen.

I agree with you. But on the other hand it's infuriating and it sucks that so many people that did nothing wrong have to suffer because of the actions of a few (the few in this case being the predators) I say that because if we went this route, it would suck for the 18-19 year old that wants to march drum corps but maybe can't do a full world class tour because of other commitments, so a local open class corps fits more of their schedule. Not to mention goodbye Blue Devils C. But I get it and I agree with you. Just sucks that it only takes a few "Bleep Bleep Curse Curse"........ to ruin it for others. But if it has to be done, then so be it.

That is so correct! Back in 2022 when my son was with Gold, we housed some of the kids at our home. It was DCI MANIA round the clock! Shows from all eras were being watched. Alot of these kids are definitely well aware of the past and have a ton of respect for those who paved the way for them. Walking into my living room and seeing 16-18 year olds watching 1982 Blue Devils, brought a tear to my eye lol.

There are plenty of years that the gold medal show wasn't my favorite show that season. Heck i can admit as a BD Honk, there are some years BD wins, their show isn't my favorite on the field that year. 2015, like it or not, Crown had no one to blame but themselves. They had a flat run, while BD arguably laid down their best run of the year. If Crown matched their Semi's run on finals night, we might be having a different conversation. Crown left the door open, BD walked thru it. Period. 2019. Honestly, I was fine with either BD or Bloo winning it. As fans we were lucky to have two worthy gold medal shows. The fans won that year. That Saturday night, it happened to go to BD. If there was a Sunday night, that easily could have went to Bloo. And the Bloo fans were EXTREMELY classy here on DCP that night. I remember that clearly because that's when I became a huge fan of Bloo's fanbase. Bloo fans are my favorite followed by BAC fans. Great fanbases. The hatred and nonsense that was being spewed on DCP that night in 2019 after scores were announced weren't from Bluecoats fans. It was the ABBD crowd and other assortments of basement trolls.

I do believe BD fatigue is a factor. We have had people on this forum admit it. People in general don't like dynasties........unless it's the corps/team/athlete you root for. However BD earned those championships. Just like PR, Cadets, Crown, Bloo and SCV earned their titles over the last 15 years.

So if another corps (not named Blue Devils) won all the "toss ups"........you would have a serious issue with that respective corps as well correct?

Our first Shoulda Woulda Coulda comment of 2024. And if Crown would have executed on finals night in 2015, maybe they would have won, but they didn't. But BD executed. And they won fair and square. No excuses. And over the last nine years, we've even had some well respected Crown Honks on this forum say Crown fell flat on finals night and didnt rise to the occasion that they are capable of. But we all know where you stand when it comes to BD. So this is no surprise.

Funny you say that. My daughter and son were born in 2002 and 2004. When they were growing up and we would talk about changes and differences between generations, social stuff, etc, I always found myself saying pre 9/11 and post 9/11. Now I found myself saying pre-pandemic, and post pandemic.

With Cadets not performing this year, let's slide everyone up one spot, which means 5-10 to "start" the 2024 season would be...... 5. Mandarins 6. Phantom Regiment 7. Cavaliers 8. Colts 9. Troopers 10. Blue Stars If SCV is in the 5-10 range at finals this summer, who is out and why?

Yea unfortunately of all the areas in SoCal to get that nice 70 degree weather, DCI normally holds shows inland, where the temperatures can really heat up, Riverside, San Bernardino, Pasadena, and Open Class gets to perform in that ****hole Yucaipa CA, where the sun iis practically sitting on your shoulders. The only nice weather SoCal show is the Vista CA show, about eight miles from the ocean. But that show is off the schedule this year.
