They are allowed within the rules. But unless I've missed something DCI did not give the each Corps the funding to get 100,000 Worth of Sound equipment on the field.. Most corps when electronics began got the McCormicks set https://www.mccormicksnet.com/Field-PA-Systems-s/160.htm and called it a day...

Now a days if you show up to a World class event with this set up you are being laughed out the building.....

To get to the Level that Bluecoats is at every single corps is going to have to invest a significant portion of the budget for the upcoming season to invest in hardware and most importantly someone that knows what to do with that equipment... The person who knows what they are doing is the biggest advantage that I see, Even the most skilled Sound Engineers in the world will have a learning curve learning what Aaron Beck has learned the past 4 seasons making mistakes and having stored presets for almost every single performance venue imagineable..

I'm hunting with a Knife, while you have Geolocation, Infrared Sight and long range scoped rifle... We are both Technically still hunting but you have alot of tools to help you achieve your goal. Who is the better hunter between the two of us? That is the choice that the music Judges have right now..

Odd as it may seem ... I agree with this.

Speaking as someone who’s played with in ear click tracks in pit bands when we have to sync up with a computer track, they’re not as helpful as you’d think, much easier to lock in to a group or conductor- I realize the numbers are bigger but I still can’t imagine why a corps would want each individual member to lock in to their own sense of a click track in ear. And I can’t imagine there wouldn’t be issues getting these alleged wireless metronomes to sync.

And the DM for Coats definitely doesn’t have an in ear monitor.

Bloo even did a video on their in-ear monitors back in 2017, talking about how they enabled the hornline to play together despite being spread out all over the field.

We’ve known about the tempo earpieces for a while now.

But the ear pieces are for listening to a spread ensemble ... they are not for used to broadcast a metronome.

Also in the discussion is the tempo in ear pieces.

Your 100% confidence does not = 100% proof. Same goes if I say something like "I can state with 100% confidence that corps X is having a tempo played in ear pieces".

Thanks for allowing me to believe what I want. Next you will tell me "don't believe what your eyes hear" ROFL

I am happy to have given you a good laugh today!

I would have believed that and didn't notice individual mics on video, but the picture posted by Eleran showing a baritone with an individual mic sure does seem odd. Considering that I don't recall there being a Baritone soloist during the show? The soloist come to the front and play into the mics on the front Sideline.. And the low brass are all playing Trombone.

And I believe that you have seen them rehearse, but I would imagine that closed rehearsal are for a reason. Unless you were a volunteer and had special access to closed rehearsals nobody knows what happens during those closed rehearsals.

Also to your point about levels and nobody communicating levels during a rehearsal. The way that I have seen that happen is that the Sound Mixer will wear headphones with the person instructing them of Mic corrections patched into their ear, so nobody on the field knows when a Mic level change is happening, even during a rehearsal, Because the only people that need to know is the guy saving the scene mix during rehearsal.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. But yes, I have access to closed rehearsals. You are right, I don’t know what is being communicated via phone or head set to the mixing board but I am still confident that there is no God squad ala SCV 2017 in Bloo. I will inquire about the bari mic.

nah we can listen and make our own impressions.

I can state with 100% confidence that there is not a select group in the Bloo ensemble that is miced to enhance the ensemble sound. There are soloists who are miced for their solos but their mics are off when they are not featured. But by all means believe what you want.

Got word that there was even a presentation at one of the recent DCI meetings where a thorough presentation was done by said top corps about how little DCI staff knew about Soundscapes and the equipment required to do a good job at electronics on a football field..

Yes, that word was from DCI during or after the Januals. The focus was on doing soundscapes right and not doing a hatchet job like we have seen from several corps in recent years.

@kevingamin I had the privilege to be at the Massillon Show in 2016, the energy was outstanding, almost like the home crowd knew they were witnessing a home champion in the making. Do you feel the same energy tonight?

I won’t speak for Kevin, but that is the energy I felt tonight (I was also at the Massillon show in 2016). And the crowd tonight was huge (10,000+?)
