  1. If I recall correctly, the Tour Premier last year had a full panel. The the rest of the early East /Midwest shows had partials.
  2. Two weeks ago I went to Marion, and now I have gone again. When Bloo had ST in Granville, I was able to watch how the corps changed day by day and was constantly amazed how much would change in just 24 hours. So take that and multiply it by 14! Holy cow! A very good opener has become a great opener. Staging is so much better. It is still aggressive and demanding and highly exposed but you can really see how it can grow and clean over the summer. And then there is what I haven’t seen yet ... “Dry Cleaner in Des Moines” blew me away! I think it will be a real show stopper. Bloo may have to have an intermission mid show so people can go to the souvie truck and buy the CD between acts. Things slow down for the ballad “Saro” and I only really saw the bare bones of it tonight. In the end, the final run though clocked in at 9 minutes and change. Then the corps was off to staging and I was off to Columbus. I also had the pleasure of running into someone I marched with in Etobicoke Oakland Crusaders! He going to be a driver for Bloo! And of course I ran into our friend DrumManTX, but those slave drivers in Bloo had the audacity to put him to work during ensemble.
  3. Once again, sitting in a Marion, IN pub getting ready for ensemble!
  4. It’s a speculation thread ... who needs to justify their feelings?
  5. When I was with Windsor Guardsmen in 1977, we played it for our concert number. We were ahead of our time ... and usually ahead of the beat!
  6. Ford Field for me. I am not going to make a prediction as I think Bluecoats is a show designed to peak in August not June. I think they are playing the long game this year.
  7. I hope there are tons of “THE moment of the summer” this year! From a variety of corps.
  8. I think there is a ton of potential with this rep and the sky is the limit. I have seen some of the design and it is gold level. I think where it ends up has to do with how it cleans. But gold or not, I think fans will love it.
  9. They’ll come up with something but I would not overthink it ... they just need a show title for the T-Shirt.
  10. Here is my non-answer answer — Doug Thrower takes great pains not to arrange like the Blue Devils.
  11. I’m taking a road trip next weekend ... you guys?
  12. Well, Boy Scouts of America also have a coed senior division called Venture Crews. If Madison goes coed, they could call themselves the Ventures! Oh, wait ...
  13. I’m back in Columbus now ... almost exactly three hours from Marion. I got to see most of the opener (brass and percussion only ... the guard had a separate practice in the field house). All I can say is this is something we have never seen from Bluecoats before. The brass demand is off the charts and the percussion is nasty fierce. My estimation is talent in both these areas is way up from last year, and they are also ahead of where they were last year. I timed 4’37” of show on the field at the last run through, and I have it on good authority that there is another 23 seconds I didn’t see so the opener is a solid five minutes. Once again, no chop and bop. The musical ideas are fleshed out nicely. The opener is very aggressive in so many ways. I think I can safely say Bloo will be in the mix once again this year.
  14. Sitting in a pub in Marion, IN, getting ready for my first ensemble practice.
