Then, they would not be viewing a donation to Cadets as a tax-deductible charitable donation. I make donations despite claiming the Standard Deduction because I know it's a gift (not under the IRS' definition. Those who do itemize and have deductions greater than the Standard do benefit by making additional donations. They usually make SIGNIFICANT donations to reduce the tax burden. Some of us are simply altruistic.
I think you would find that a great many here on DCP give quite generously to the activity. Regardless of tax benefit, it still makes more sense to give directly to our corps of choice than to donate via GoFundMe. GoFundMe takes their cut whereas the corps gets 100% when donating directly.

I don't fully trust GoFundMe, so if I cared enough about Garfield to donate I'd do so directly. And I wish them the best.
Exactly. Why donate to GoFundMe when they will take a cut?

Drum corps intrigue reminds me of the fashion world. Or maybe it’s because I just finished reading The House of Gucci. 🤷♀️
Sadly, it reminds me of Cheer!

Via NYT:
Bobby Knight, one of college basketball’s signature coaches and a singular personality renowned for his tempestuousness and hubris, qualities that helped bring him to the pinnacle of his sport and also tainted his success, died on Wednesday at his home in Bloomington, Ind. He was 83.
He was a hero to Bill Cook

I'm not convinced that simply announcing Erie as Cadets' new home base 8 months ago is enough time to either succeed or fail financially.
It seems much more likely to me that 40 years of financial (and other) skeletons may well play a role.
But who knows?
It’s the skeletons that have me worried

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe he is referring to Christopher Anderson

We were a small corps and our "audition" consisted of a pulse check. If you had one you were in.
I was in a small corps that waved the pulse requirement

Possibly the most accurate prediction thus far.
Maybe they’ll do a show revolving around Edvard Munch’s “The Scream.”
Then people could love it and hate it in equal measure.

I knew if I kept it long enough it would come back in style. I have a vinyl record of DCI Finals 1974 with Kingsmen, Blue Stars, & Muchachos. It's a bit scratchy, but still fun to listen to especially if I've been drinking and feeling nostalgic.
I had all three discs from ‘74 but they are long gone, as is my tower of analog phonographic equipment. Man, that was a sweet system.

There was what I consider a minor issue with state filings (501c3 nonprofit vs. charity certificate). That could have been handled by going to Cadets directly and not brought up at all on DCP. It’s this sort of thing that begs the OP’s question, I think.

And we will see how much they suck on 11/11. In the mean time, enjoy your stay in Columbus.

Interesting. I live in Columbus and see zero mention of them anywhere around town. They started a facebook page for the winds group but then never added any followup content. If that have any intention on going the drum corps route, which I feel is a bad idea right now if they think they are going to field in 2024, they'd better get some recruiting going.
And why not join forces with the Saints?

I left California, but people are moving there unlike what someone says, and I'd move back for the right job that pays a high dollar amount. I'm just extremely tired of all the nut jobs trying to pick on California due to obvious political reasons...
Costs are high everywhere; fuel is even more of an issue there, but the whole tour isn't there...
As far as the Cadets taking a year off, I have no idea how this relates to that topic.
I hear California is a great place to get rings

I am always surprise at the end of tour to realize I have 200 000$+ to collect and even more to pay.
+ thing we forgot were coming our way + things we didn’t anticipate.
You have a ballpark but you can be 50-100k on one side or the other.
Many thing are not known before you have them (breakdown, housing difficulties, oven broken, rain, etc). It goes up fast.
C’mon … you know what bills are going to hit with a pretty good semblance of accuracy. The board , CEO and CFO knew what was coming with a reasonable degree of accuracy. If they didn’t … that is simply incompetence.

Well brother, there is a corps about 500 miles north of you that just "Sinned and Spinned" their way to a record breaking 2023 season, and put DCI on notice for 2024.
Their Corps Director just won Director of the Year.
I think they could find a home for your son's amazing talents.
And they are my pick for fourth next year

To do regional tour you need regional shows. To host a show you need to be a dci event partner. So they can oversee the tour stop you’re providing them. You as a show sponsor need to gamble your money hoping you can break even and sell a whole lot of concessions.
Plus you need a critical mass of corps. This might work in the Midwest and California, but every other region be ######.

I'll try to find the link, but I swear DCI survey results showed WC was like 60% music and music ed majors.
Mike
I just had a little giggle. In 1979, 27 had 20 sops. Two were music majors.
Where is the love?
