I see where you're coming from, this may be true, but in my experience there is not much if any choreography that compares to playing sustained phrases and marching a 4 to 5.

Because they are still doing well in all captions. Even weak visual for BD is relatively strong.

1st: SCV - All they need to do is clean, clean, clean and I truly believe they will get the gold!
2nd: BD - Easily weakest visual content I've seen from BD in recent years.
3rd: Crown - With solid brass and improved percussion, this corps can do incredible things even with a mediocre design.
4th: Bluecoats - Tilt 4.0. Well rounded corps. I just believe crown performs better with what they have.
5th: Cavies - Another solid and fun show from the green machine.
6th: BAC - Wow, such an improvement, they really sound more like the Cadets than the cadets themselves this year!
7th: Cadets - Oh George...
8th: BK - dare I say TOO esoteric?
9th: Phantom - Honestly have not gotten a good read yet but I have heard that their brassline is weaker.
10th: Blue Stars - A very nicely executed BOA show.
11th: Crossmen - Sorry...
12th: Mandarins - Will there be a new trend of a first time finalist corps claiming a finals spot every year?
13th: Madison
14th: Colts
15th: Academy

Does anybody think that Crown still has a trick up their sleeve design wise, or are they just gonna clean until finals?

Great stadium for drum corps. About an hour away from me. Not going.
Is the very top row 50 yard line too high up in this stadium? Or is it good? It's my first time seeing a live show in Houston.

It's more fair, but it's kind of anti-climactic to have the Cavies go on last.Honestly, I'm almost a fan of these random orders. I know the scoring's always weird during the TOC, but it at least keeps people from putting tinfoil on their heads and saying scores are all performance order. It's kinda neat.

You bring up a good point, Yogitom, though I'm afraid the GE will go down. They are really missing something in their show and I'm afraid taking out this really cool effect their scores will only suffer because of it. We'll see if they do take it out for good, though I hope not. JoshClements403 brings up a good point, there's really no point in taking it out permanently if it is going to work fine in Indy, San Antonio, & Atlanta.

Wait... They didn't use the Black Banner? Was it windy or something? I'm seeing Crown this Friday and I'd really be bummed if they don't use the banner.I really loved them last night at Bentonville. Much better than OOTW. They were unmistakably the fan favorite. The opening impacts was unbelievable, the sound and power just echoed around the stadium. I felt a bit bummed out when they didn't use the black banner though....kind of cheated. But the it was still my favorite. The ballad was so powerful, the red veil was incredibly affect. That bit is going to be a devil(worse than a monster) by finals. I liked the ending, but I really hope it's expanded upon, it just felt a bit off. IMO, I thought guard was better than BD's last night and that the brass was equal with them. A very powerful and exciting show that could medal, though I don't know if they could take the title.

Does anyone have an Idea of about when Crown will put on their redone ending? (not the slightly different ending they put on recently).

Can’t wait to go! Never been to a show so early in the season, other than when I marched. I’m mostly excited to see if SCV can maintain the top spot opening up from last year. It’s always hard for a corps to do this that isn’t BD 😬
My Prediction:
1st - SCV: GE and percussion will be on top.
2nd - BD: Brass and guard will be on point.
3rd - Cavies: Best show concept since 2016’s “Propaganda”.
4th - Mandarins: Another strong, potential top 12 show.
5th - Academy: Showing improvement from last season out the gate.
6th - Troopers
7th- SCVC
8th- BDB
9th- Golden Empire
10th- BDC
We’ll see how it all plays out, it’ll be interesting to see what actually ends up happening Friday night!
