I was lucky enough to march with BozzlyB and then to be instructed by him. He was one of those guys that easily had the chops to be in a Div 1 corps. But instead he aged out with his friends. That was pretty cool. (And won a Div III Title)
Sometimes, when you march in a "small" corps you realize how close these people get. Not that people don't get close in a Div 1 corps, it's just different. I also know it is different now. There is not nearly as many Div II/III corps out there and the whole landscape has changed as far as travel.
But once you start with a corps, many people become attached to it. It is not just a corps, it is an identity. This is why there are so many curmudgeons who state "...When I was in the (Insert Corps Name), we always....." or "...Remember when the (Insert Rival Corps) would always....." It is not just being in Drum Corps. It is being a part of a great group of people. Together, going through what should be impossible summer schedule, sharing some of the most improbable experiences and in the end, creating the most unbelievable memories that will last forever. (Try sharing some of your Drum Corps stories with someone who was not in Drum Corps. Half the time they don't believe you!)
After experiencing a summer like that, you just may never want to move on. It is all different for different people I guess. But, that's my story.
I will always take great pride in being a Blue Star. I take even more pride in being a part of The Blue Stars.
If you really want someone to give a good answer, ask the Blue Star's Director, Brad, or marching instructor Eric. These two gentlemen combine for more than 2 decades of membership in the Blue Stars. Since then they have amassed almost 2 decades instructing the Blue Stars. (And Still Counting!!!!!!!!!!) They've got stories even I have a hard time believing.
Later,
Lumps
btw......Bozz, the back-stick blurtas were pretty slick as well.
