  1. As sad as it is to see a corps go it's also true that DCI just got better today.
  2. Shadow is an excellent alternative however they are academically (school sponsored) restricted to only allow members that are currently in high school through the summer after their senior year. I live less than a mile from Pioneer land and had my son march Shadow because I have knew better than to expose him to a sub par experience. Shadow is throttled by the academic restraint and I hope that they can someday find a way out of that restraint. The staff there is world class and the organization is way ahead of the rest of DCI in member safety. All that said it is still a sad day for DCI or rather a day of reckoning that needed to come for a while. I'm sorry for the alumni that have pride in the corps they love they should know that the community will never hold anyone whom marched in shame. When I competed against Pioneer back in the day they were a well oiled machine.
  3. Would a top 25 appearance also force a corps to World class? That would shake things up in Open class alot.
  4. Jubal opened with great sound and clean drill. Colt cadets welcomed in the open class with a clean hornline. Shadow spent 2 weeks wisely improving thier show and blew us away in the closer. Gold was fun to watch and played well with color or the lack there of. Louisiana star seemed flat in horns with little movement from them. Drum line was excellent and carried the show. Spartans show was good with the color guard performing out of thier class. SCVC what an opener Holy smokes. posted from the DrumScorps app
  5. I would love to say I searched you out on this but BAM there it was on my FB feed. You have a gift for review, please continue.
  6. 15 year old Son is currently marching Shadow from Oregon WI 2017 will be his second season. His older brother showed interest in Colt cadets but was not ready in maturity and then lost interest. I marched in the 70's and 80's in Pages of the Wausau Story, Wausau Story, and St. Croix Rivermen.
  7. My son attended the informational/first rehearsal and I was quite surprised to see the amount of organization that this corps is bringing to the field. They have the fortune of an entire community behind them including the board of education. This is a direct replacement to their summer marching band as the summer circuit is not what it used to be in the 80's. The band participation in the Summer WIAA band tour has dwindled from 80 or so bands to a small handful. Shadow Armada (this units band name) was extremely successful in this arena and the entire community see's this program as a net positive an supports them completely. They have a Booster Club that has been in place for decades, so a smooth transition there, a school system that stands firm behind the marching arts, a winter guard and drum line that is very competitive. I have been around drum corps for almost 40 years and never once have I seen a first rehearsal so well attended and fully staffed. At least 70% of the staff is returning band alumni who went on to march with top 12 corps, Madison, Phantom, Santa Clara, Bluestars ect... I'm coming from the Milwaukee area, and planning on making this happen for him. I highly suggest you come to their next practice and find out. They are going to have a fantastic first year.
