  1. Not suggesting they close down. Simply trying to illustrate how little control dci has.
  2. You can’t control what isn’t yours. If DCI were to close down, would corps not simply continue on with their own reorganized tour?
  3. So much about the way DCI operates is based on trust. Trust has been lost. How will it be regained?
  4. Change the culture of DCI or Pioneer? To change DCI would require the corps to give up their own autonomy to a reorganized charter and board of directors. (I.e. NCAA, NASCAR,etc)
  5. While your theory is interesting, it fails to include one simple ingredient: personal taste. I'm not a fan of The Beatles, Elvis Presley, or Michael Jackson. Personally, their music falls flat and does not stir me at all. But they have millions of fans who totally disagree with me because of taste. I saw SCV one time all summer. I didn't understand the show, but I liked it. It grooved, it raised up and down, and it sounds brilliant to me.
  6. Ah. I had to go through the peasants gate. Lol
  7. Multiple washings with oxiclean or other powerful smell detergents. But in 2 seasons, my son's stuff still sometimes has a funk....its bad...lol
  8. This is a crazy one.... what if every 5 years DCI set a theme and every corp had to develop a show out of that theme? Would we get a bunch of different shows? Don't shoot me!!! Just thinking outloud....
  9. LOL...true. But the next concession stand over wasn't removing any caps! It was just funny.
  10. It was fascinating to travel this summer and hear different crowds cheer for different corps. Makato, MN went nuts for Genesis during their show and the encore. I don't think critiquing the show is a bad thing. My wife and I had our own discussions. In the end, they took a risk. If you never risk, you never have a shot to learn, adjust, and/or move forward.
  11. I wish I knew which gate you entered....they searched our bags and made us throw away drinks and food.... The funny thing for me was one concession stand in the upper concourse would remove your bottle cap from your water and throw it away. Called it a safety issue.
  12. The total compilation of talent that ends up on the field at every show is just utterly amazing.
  13. 1) Actually, the money difference between OC and WC is significant. There are more financial resources available to WC. Student auditions are significantly up since joining WC. 2) They are still getting beat by the same old crowd but paid more money. Why wouldn't you do that? 3) Did every WC win a lower division to before going to WC? I realize the structure has changed significantly over the decades but it is not questionable to move up when you can financially and structurally do so. 4) As far as forward progress, their brass section continues to trend higher. Other areas are trending higher. I think the lower placement speaks to the difficulty of competing in DCI. I'm sure you will disagree. Not sure why you felt your were ganged up on, but I read nothing constructive in your comments. Therefore I responded. Staying in OC another year would have done nothing but rob a year of financial and structural growth that would be valuable in the future.
  14. Couldn’t disagree more. They have more than proved their capability to perform and compete on the WC stage. They tried an old school show (which many on this site advocate) and made semifinals with it. With growth comes struggle...but to diss them for the attempt is short sighted at best or just plain classless at worst.
  15. I have been critical of the over amplification of corps. However, after sitting in sec 641 for the Finals, you could not hear many of the solo moments even when amped.
  16. Super sticky tape...guaranteed to not come up when you want it to. Call Blue Stars...
  17. If DCI is an educational experience, there are tons of students trying to learn the craft of being a sound technician
  18. Anybody notice they are still trying to pull tape up from blue stars show?
  19. I know there are no easy answers and boiled down, each Corps just have to play the game the best way they know how.
  20. Great explanation! But should a “level of difficulty” measurement be there? I know there is no subjective way to measure that but a longer brass played show requires higher conditioning. Idk, just asking for a friend!
