  1. Yeah, the Quincy show got the Cavies right, but each of the other corps had big jumps that were not sustained in the next show. It was a small panel as well, so somethings might have been missed.
  2. In 2012 BAC placed 7th in two of the regionals, including Atlanta. Was 8th in Quarters and Semis, and finished 7th at finals. This was a strong finish, but they were fluctuating between 7th and 8th that season, or were the two 7ths in regionals just flukes? Who can tell what will happen this year. Looks like there are more great corps than can fit into 12 final slots. As I hear often, past performance is not an indicator of future results.
  3. think they will quit using rifles too? And swords? .... All these violent objects in the show.
  4. I noticed for the first time tonight as well ... Liked it.
  5. Yeah, I sort of mis-quoted you. You were making a different point. You said: "What cracks me up is Cadets were, what?, a few tenths behind SCV Thursday night - a program that has been gushed over all summer long as "brilliant" and "awe inspiring" - grown men on DCP saying they "wept" watching it And yet there's Cadets - with apparently a program so poorly designed and staged in every way - right there tenths away So something doesn't quite add up. Maybe Cadets isn't quite as bad as some would claim. Just saying!" In general, you have been as fair as anyone around here. You'd like Cadets to do better and think they can, hope they can, etc. but are realistic about the fact that as the Cadets improve, others do too. And improving relative to anyone else at this stage is difficult. There are a few "bunches" out there that could move relative to each other, but every day that it does not happen, it becomes increasingly difficult. Everyone is working and cleaning and trying to get better.
  6. this is true, but just a few pages back (or was it on the Cadets discussion?) GD was indicating that Cadets could (might) catch SCV because they were only a few tenths behind (0.55). Or is it easier for the Cadets to gain on those above them than Cavies? I have no dog in this hunt. Want to see all the corps to max out their capabilities. (But I do want to see Academy make finals.)
  7. They have met 9 times. Over the first six times Cadets were over the Cavies an Average of 1.575. Over the last 3 contests, the Cadets were over the Cavies an average of 0.475. It is definitely getting closer. And the "trend" is not in favor the the Cadets (unless you only look at the last two contests where Cadets have extended the lead from 0.25 to 0.425). Maybe the Cadets are stronger now, but they were scoring better earlier in the season, relatively to the Cavies.
  8. I'm not sure I see a "tendency to peak" during Finals week. 2013 BAC moved up a spot from Regionals, but in 2014 they declined and 2015 they were static. Maybe I have to look further back to see this "tendency" ... But then is it a "tendency"? Maybe they will this year, I have liked the show since I first saw it, but it has not been generally well received by the judging community.
  9. BD was over BC in Dallas. Crown was over BD in San Antonio. ... But your point is still good.
  10. BC was over BD in visual in Warrensburg by 0.1. But that's the only I see.
  11. you may want to check that. I thought I would be there too. Think the closest is Deer Valley 30.
  12. Generally, telling a story in 12 minutes with dance, marching, and music is difficult. I'm sure that's why some story telling shows ultimately add voice.
  13. I'm glad it's coming together as well. Great kids, great music.
  14. You were the one who told me it was an analogy. I just took you seriously. I like the original GH description of the original "Stoned". It was to be a fantasy. As a fantasy I think it would have worked better, but it would have been a different production.
  15. I didn't like the show either, but as an analogy (which was what we were talking about) it worked.
  16. For an analogy to "work", the base story must be clear. I guess that's what I have trouble seeing. I think the original story behind Stoned of Statues coming alive would have been cleaver and clear. Trying to add (later) the living of one's live in an authentic was as opposed to something else, seems far fetched. Consider a very clear analogy from recent DCI. Boston's Animal Farm was clear. We "got" it. Even without the "G7" formation. As was the original Animal Farm. Orwell communicated his meaning by a story. Or look at Plato's analogy of the Cave, or Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. The overt story is clear and drives you to the meaning. I'm not clear that the overt story in Awakening is clear, and it does not drive you to the meaning. And, indeed, the history of the development of the program illustrates this. The idea of Statues coming to life was the initial idea, the underlying meaning was then developed (or forced upon) an existing show. And all this overlay of gods and such just seems strange.
  17. Well, Will says that his role is "similar to the God Vulcan" and goes on to speak of being a siren to the statues. Seems that he thinks that he is emulating some god he calls Vulcan. .... Of course your explanation is better, but I'm not sure how I would have figured it out, from watching and listening.
