  1. Maybe I'm reading the recaps wrong, but at semis the 2 GE2 judges each had Crown 4th. At prelims one had them 3rd and one had them 4th. The 2nd GE1 judge (each night) had the REP half at 7th. Check it out. Am I reading this wrong?
  2. GE2 is no longer looking at music only. GE1 and GE2 have the same criteria. However, GE2 has a judge with a musical emphasis, while GE1 has a judge with a visual emphasis. But they are both looking at the whole thing. This changed a couple of years ago.
  3. I yield the the superior knowledge of MM. I'm now watching the Cavies, and the person at the sound board is moving their hands so I'm guessing they are doing something, what I have no idea. I do know that the person sitting ... oops standing at the sound board is not in the best position to hear how the sound is heard in the rest of the venue. The discussion was about the role of Aaron Beck with the Bluecoats. And E3D was concerned that he was too old to be the sound designer. Because the sound designer should be of age of a MM.
  4. I'm looking right now at BAC performing. There are two folks looking at the sound board. Everyone can see them. Nothing is done behind a screen of secrecy.
  5. Yes, manipulation of the sound board is (or may be) done during the show. But the sound designer has nothing to do with it. My concern is just that some (including you) seem to think that the Sound Designer is doing that. I'm often in concert halls or theaters and I see a sound board. And it get's manipulated during a show or concert (mics are turned on/off if nothing else). But that is not a job that a sound designer does. It is the same in DC. if there is a sound board it is manipulated. You may want that that person be a member (and count agains the 154 members). I believe (and I could be wrong about this) that this has been addressed in various rules/regulations/decisions made by the member corps of DCI. And I'm sure that they are all abiding by what is "legal".
  6. No, just like the Visual designer has nothing to do while the corps is performing. Just like the brass arranger has nothing to do with the tuning of the brass instruments while the corps is performing. It the distinction between DESIGN and execution. The sound / audio designer is not even in the house when the corps performs.
  7. The sound designer does NOTHING during the show itself. Just as the Visual designer does nothing during the show itself, nor does the percussion arranger do anything... Do we really have to point this out? Is this really confusing? They do, however, due to their design effect (not I think affect) what goes on during the show itself. If there were no visual designer, all heck would break out, I'm sure. If the percussion designer (arranger) did not arrange the music, what would you think would happen? If a corp just bought a bunch of electronic dohickies and placed them on the field not much would happen. A sound or audio engineer or designer functions in a similar way to any other designer of the corps show. When done designing, they go away (well, they may come back a time or two during a season, just as a visual designer might come back during the season, or a brass arranger might modify the score during the season. Again, I am amazed that this discussion has gone on as long as it has, and some seemingly DCP fanatics don't understand what a designer would do as opposed to what happens on the field. They are necessary, they may be good or bad, and the results on the field may be good or bad. You may not like a give sound design or not like electronics in DC at all. But there is not magic here. Again, just like a visual designer. They design, they do not perform and that they are older than 21 years old should come as no surprise. They may design well or badly, and the result on the field may be good or bad. But they are distinct and the age rules for participants has never (so far as I know) required that designers be eligible to march. The person we are talking about has a full time job in Las Vegas.
  8. Does this also mean the Visual designer should be a corps member? Does this mean the Percussion Arranger should be a corps member? Does this also mean the Brass Arranger should be a corps member? This is sheer lunacy. If not, why one and not the other? Certainly you may hold that opinion, but it has never been that way in DCI.
  9. He is a designer. As far as I understand ALL of the designers of almost ALL of the corps are far in excess of 21. E3D --- What are you talking about??? Or are you just showing your ignorance? His full time job is in Las Vegas with michael jackson one by cirque du soleil. Did I use the quote function to your satisfaction?
  10. Best guess is Aaron is late in his late 40s maybe creeping in to that other decade. And he has been doing this a long time in NY and LV.
  11. Another thing is - I wish the interviewer would have asked the sound guy / aka cirque guy his age. Maybe you can figure out an estimated age. He was in the Bluecoats Cymbal line in 1995.
  12. I doubt that Yamaha is using Dennis to tout electronics. Maybe drum sticks, keyboards and drums.
  13. Only at BLL for the last nine. Was hit by grand thunder goo with the Cadets and was wondering if it was the theater. Didn't notice it much with the rest of the corps.
  14. I'm pretty sure the final score will be closer than what this indicates, but who can tell?
  15. Are you not suggesting that someone break the law? There are frequent notices that doing such is a violation of copyrights.
  16. I think he means BC. Not quite sure since some judges were not judging the same captions. My quick and dirty analysis was as follows: General Effect 1: John Howell -0.1 Michael Stone +0.1 General Effect 2: Glenn Fugett +0.2 Nola Jones +0.1 Visual Proficiency: Juno Orefice ? Visual Analysis: William Chumley +0.1 Color Guard: Jim Sturgeon +0.2 Music Brass: Jeff Harper +0.2 Music Analysis: Julie Davila +0.2 Randy Greenwell ? Field Percussion: Jeff Prosperie -0.2/-0.1 Minus indicates judge favored BD, Plus indicated judge favored BC. Looked at nearest and closest encounters, except with JP. I could tell nothing about 2 of the judges. This does not mean that the judge will see the same things on finals night. History is not always a predictor of the future. And Both corps have changed things since they were last seen by the individual judges.
  17. Why these years? Some what the style of the 60s or 80s or some other era of styles. Should we vote? Or, why should anyone care what you (or I, for that matter) want.
  18. I agree with this. And I don't think it even reflects what the Announcement of the show told us. Remember: “Behold is, by definition, a command for respect and is often used to introduce something remarkable or impressive. The design team wanted to honor the remarkable story of resilience, strength, unity, and healing for The Cadets and for all women in our activity and our country, as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of women in The Cadets in 2019,” said Darcie Aungst, Program Coordinator. “I was intrigued by women in history who lead entire nations as far back as Ancient Egypt and Rome; often pondering the question, what happened? Why in 2019 is it a struggle? This show explores that history and those questions. Behold tells a tale of female strength and leadership, the ugliness of jealousy, discrimination, and power when it is held over others. The show points triumphantly to images and sounds of true equality and opportunity for everyone regardless of gender, race, orientation, identity, or ethnicity. Shattering the glass ceiling opens opportunities for everyone who has been told they are ‘less than’ and leaves our world a better place for future generations. Behold the power of unity, of equality, and of The Cadets!” Not sure that was achieved either. It does seem that the designers were not clear on what they were doing. Or, they cannot communicated it in written or verbal manner. Or am I just confused.
  19. Some tics are more important than other tics. ... Didn't Boston do a show about this?
  20. You mean there are some who want to go back to some sort of the TICK system?
  21. John Lowe is Facebook Live with Ensemble right now.
