  1. yeah, i'm still not sure why they don't just show all 20 corps in the cinema events. it normally would have been 17 so you take a longer break between the 10-11 corps and you can show them all...but i'll still be in my comfy seat
  2. indeed vanguard had the theme announced...the latest info was audition information, not what they were playing....which IMO isn't quite the same. took some time, but found the link...SCV 2009 will present "Clue"
  3. i didn't know the basketball team was on the field (the corps was called Magic of Orlando), all kidding aside, they didn't have a cadets corps...they were one corps. that's kinda the point of this thread i do believe...it's not that these corps couldn't compete and be successful as world class corps, but that it is not the purpose of these corps to try to do so. as far as those that age-out of cadets corps, it may not be that the corps is loosing sight of the mission, it could just be that the member does not quite have the talent to make it in the "A" corps, but does very well where they are. or maybe they have such a good time as a younger member that they choose to stay in the "B" corps (i don't really know how they work so i don't know if a member can choose).
  4. could they? absolutely...earlier in the season, i might not have said so but they have made huge improvements over the last month and the show is really progressing nicely. it will be a great "fight" for all corps come thursday and i can't wait.
  5. i think it's more likely that BDC will attend championships than that would ever happen (of course neither would happen)
  6. it's the same with Vanguard Cadets and Colt Cadets...their function is not to move up into world class, their function is to provide a quality learning experience for their members, most of who probably aspire to move into the "A" corps of their organizations. yes, BDB was great last night but i wouldn't say they are top 15. possibly 18th, but might not even be that. (and yes i do know that SCVC competed in div i three times under the old rules, but it was never the intention to go div i)
  7. i know the DCW online review of the Madison show lists the numbers and none are 150 http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/content/view/3535/64/ upon reading again, Crown was highest with 149...most seem to be about mid-130's to mid-140's and it should be mentioned that it was the end of June (some holes could be plugged by now, although all but three corps had holes in Atl.)
  8. i'm going out on a limb to say that INT will be soooo good in quarterfinals competition that they will get to perform twice!!
  9. i had emailed asking to clarify that and got no response...guess we finally got it
  10. i wouldn't call Stanford a regional...but this brings up an interesting question. since the power of DCP has recently been flexed by finding out how the lineup was going to be released, and the recent discussions on "regional" and "full touring corps"...perhaps DCI should again be lobbyed to finally bring an end to the confusion and define these terms once and for all. i would wonder though if, instead of emailing DCI about this, mass emails to every world class corps director (who would need to decide anyways) would be more sufficient since if they see enough people are wondering it might force them to address it at the winter meetings
  11. not quite...they post simply what the corps' press release says. i know this because i emailed to update the listing from when i marched and that was the response i received.
  12. WWBW sells herald trumpets in Bb and C, so different keyed horns can probably be obtained from the manufacturers
  13. no, they corrected the other mistake that said 100th Anniversary of the birth of Leonard Bernstein...nothing about the mistake about WSS which will turn 51 on September 26 (from www.westsidestory.com)
  14. interesting how a slight change in the numbers changes where they lie. I used the evening scores from SA/Atl, and here's what I got (only going to three decimal places): 1. Blue Devils 92.425 2. Cavaliers 91.819 3. Carolina Crown 90.919 4. Phantom Regiment 90.831 5. Cadets 90.144 6. Santa Clara Vanguard 87.244 7. Bluecoats 87.244 8. Blue Knights 83.713 9. Boston Crusaders 83.150 10. Blue Stars 82.150 11. Glassmen 81.394 12. Madison 79.663 13. Colts 79.619 14. Crossmen 79.231 15. Spirit 78.988 16. Pacific Crest 76.794 17. Troopers 76.550 18. Academy 74.638 19. Mandarins 74.150 20. Pioneer 69.619 Bluecoats and Vanguard still tie, but using the evening numbers only Crossmen drops 2 places...it will be interesting to see which numbers are used.
  15. watching the show last night, i commented that this is what the A corps used to be...just a great show and they will defintely have a great finish.
  16. i think most of it gets a little long and stuffy...too much for the field at least. i do know a tuba ensemble (not Regiment) has been working on Eine Kleine Nachtmusik for I&E....or i should say it was passed out, haven't spoken to the guy since early may so i don't know if they're still doing it.
  17. all time best - 89 SCV the rest no particular order: 99 SCV 04 SCV 96 Regiment 96 Scouts 04 Pacific Crest 03 Regiment 97 BD 00 Cadets 04 Cavies plenty of other shows could possibly tie some of these that i listed, but others must be on my list. once i realized i had 9 there it was tough to decide through the rest of the great shows that have been out there and i realized that i (as well as others who have posted) have certain allegiances. there are also plenty i have heard but not seen and plenty i haven't watched in a very long time, but there it is. i think it would be interesting to do similar threads for all the "usual suspects" cause i could probably give you almost 10 SCV shows by themselves, quite a few Regiment, some more Cavies, Cadets as well as others.
  18. wagner would be some tasty stuff, and no one has done it more than Regiment...even though they've only used it a couple of times. having played Sheep May Safely Graze for brass ensemble, i can say that tuba part is one boring part!!! haha, i know Regiment would adjust it, but that part was just bad
  19. first of i would direct you to the other topics about this, but remember DCI (and in this case specifically mentioned) it's the corps directors that voted, so blame them, not DCI itself. obviously they assumed it was fair, so i say see what happens and if it sucks hope/email the directors to change it again next year.
  20. i believe he is addressing the writing for Cavies, and the performance for BD. he says they're both top-heavy, one he comments on the repetoire, the other on the performance....almost as if looking at it as a judge, wow. since they haven't updated the sheets at all in 4 years and thus amps that make tons of noise or simply crap out don't affect scores at all, i wouldn't expect this change either
  21. there have been glitches with placements like that all season (and other seasons as well) and i think Surf was even listed as WC in a recent show. The open class moving on to world class quarters rule was ended after 2002 so to answer that, no...the top 3 will not be able to move on. to address the different sheets....yeah they are, but sometimes judges can be looking for the same thing anyways, so the numbers are sorta in the ballpark when going between classes. they won't tell you that and it's not official by any means but it does happen.
  22. well DCI provides housing on show days, so theoretically only 17 would be moving on, however i doubt that is the case, since we won't know until after Tuesday who those 17 are and with DCI trying to be on top of things in the last few years (making sure who goes where and all logistics are solved way ahead of time), I doubt they'd leave that question mark open until the last second. if it were true, not only would you have to wonder who is going on, they would then have to figure out who goes to what site. and then the rest would be stranded. i assume it's all been taken care of already.
  23. no...that means they have age-outs in the corps (I believe DCE allows 2 members above age-out age, or is that DCUK?) so they would be international...although they were listed as second place in open class in Allentown yesterday, so either they left those people at home or there was a typo. could be either one they've had plenty of typos on those recaps.
  24. corpsreps.com (not the end all be all authority, but i use it as mine) lists Yamato in division three placements every year but 2001 (div II 10th place) indicating to me that they competed as a DCI corps every year
  25. but didn't bluecoats beat them in 06? i'm sorry i don't understand the connection. if i get what you are going for, please correct me if i am mistaken...you are saying the Cadets might turn towards a more "traditional" show because it is what a lot of people are hoping for with the return to "Holy Name" and bringing back Bernstein. Unfortunately, i do not believe this is the case. with george hopkins being the champion of the (shall we say) "recent expansion" of the activity, I do not believe they can have a show without using most if not all of the newly allowable elemnts. now this is not a shot at hopkins or the new rules, which i would always save for a rainy day, i am simply saying that why ask for it if you're not going to use it?
