So, I never heard if the judges hit the score hard for a poorly played solo or solo's. It is hard not to feel sorry of the intro soloist when he cannot perform the music. As well as the french horn barley eeking out the correct pitch. I am at a loss wondering if this is the elephant in the room or am I correct. I also agree that we can all hope they fix the dead spots and even add complexity to the trumpet lines. We also see only a few spots with up tempo complex formations. The ending is the "ok, finally we get speed and complexity" but only for a bit. Then entire ending feels premature and not set up well. Oh well, lots to say from the arm chair spectator.

At this point if BC can have technical difficulties and sound way off and unbalanced as well as have a member run out late to his location and still increase in score then anything is possible. While 9th may be a stretch Academy taking over 10th is not. We can hope for a stellar show and the other above falter. We do not wish ill will on any corp but would love to see 10 held and possibly move into 9th. We have grown to really love this show and realize that it is very different from all other shows. Crossmen in on an island all their own and give a breath of fresh air to the drama shows and bring back straight forward marching. While Academy is a crowd pleaser, Crossmen demonstrates skill and technique. No doubt this year belongs to BC. It is theirs to lose. The other two are close on their heals. I am not sure if anyone has enough to take 1st away. BC has the big dog show with a lot of bite and memorable moments that will change the way DCI will evolve. They are trend setters.

Crossmen looked a bit flat with some formations during the semi's. The scores are set up for drama with 12 thru 9 and possibly 8. If they can stick the show solid and give it one last push and leave it on the field they can keep 10th and possibly take 9th. The Crossmen show is different from all of the other shows. It is almost retro and truer to the old school. Lots of skill and marching technique. We hope they have more kids sticking around and next years show continues to grow. Lets compete with the upper levels. Get a big show, get teachers that can teach it and the kids will perform.

I don't mind the amped sound during the show, but I am not sure it is part of the judging. We watched the semi's on our home TV (nice sound system) and loved the shows. However, after getting to know each corps productions we were stunned when the BC sound system went south on them. From our vantage point there were noticeable problems and volume miscues. It was obvious and took away from the show and we thought there would be deductions. Low and behold the increased in score? I think we counted 26 speakers in surround sound fashion. If there is no regulation then all corps should take advantage of the ability to use them. However, for the purist change will be hard. When there is an obvious problem much like a dedication for circle formations ending up looking like flat footballs then for poor electronic performance deductions should occur as well. If you are going to use them then get rated on them too. On the plus side, sound engineers now have a cool job and composers have a new variable to add to their color palette.

Yes, I agree with you, to stay calm and pull a cable from one area to get the synth going was definitely cool under fire. Now I understand how the kids in the upper groups get to so good, previous experience from groups like Crossmen. I also agree, those who come back will lift next years growth to new levels. We look forward to it. It has been a real blast this year for us. Thank you all for the details on how it all works. I joke with my wife, we discuss and ask each other which show did you dream about last night, or what song is in your head at the moment. Go Crossmen.

Good info indeed. Many thanks. It is also good to hear from someone who has attended practice. Nice insight to what is seen during the practice. I was told that the reason for the intro hold up was the mixer not responding but that they eventually got it going. It was excruciating to watch. I am sure there were plenty of Crossmen Alum there feeling the same. From a newbie it looks like areas to fix would be consistency in steps and running, along with dance moves. We watched BK and BD and the one clear difference it the they look very uniform in all things, the exception being the freelance moves. Also the upper groups snap all of their moves with conviction. There is so much we can all say but the kids are doing awesome. It has been a fantastic first year for us. We are hooked. We also glad there was no death trap tarp to trip up the kids. The sheen was not good and a distraction and a danger. Keep up the good work.

The Crossmen will need to pull some adjustment out of the bag in order to change the current point pathway. There seems to be no room for error in the show. There is a high level of difficulty and musical originality but very few "wow" spots that push a judge into a point differential that allows for small errors. There is no headroom or place for miscues. The last time we saw them was over a week ago. We were very excited with their performance and felt that the clean up and adjustments made at that time should scored high. But it was not to be. We will see them tonight and hope to see a great show. Q: Is there a place to learn about judges scoring methods? It has been a very exciting summer following the kids. They have done a fantastic job and created many smiles and big hearts.

Is it just me or does the large jump in score +3 for the Academy and +4 for the Boston Crusaders seem out of place.

Great show tonight .Now that all corps scores are in it is as if there was a correction where everyone has landed. I do no think 10th is the limit for Crossmen. They really cleaned up a lot and had spunk. I am impressed with what I saw. With two more weeks to go everyone will get better. As far as the tarp, all tarps look bad under the lights. It seems to be more of a hazard than a visual. I agree with the use of the cross, bring it back again and morph it with the continuum symbol. The color guard colors wash out against the field and disappear. Add some sort of dark color to help them stand out. Even with all of the suggestions I am very proud of the corp. They work hard in the heat of the day and continue to march well. Nice work tonight.

Crossmen holds on to 10th, yet there are many still waiting for another day of marching. It will be close and down to the wire. Can someone tell me how the finals are chosen at Indy. How many make it into the finals?

Have to directors been able to figure out the missing elements that the judges are looking for?

Anybody out there at the rehearsals or shows? This forum has been very quiet with no news on how the corp is progressing. Is it much of the same or have they cleaned up the lines and melodic runs? I saw a video from the S.A.competition (which was taken down ) which was a side view of the show. I was left with some big concerns. We hope to see them again on a video feed from DCI.
