As a professor of religion and interfaith studies I presume it isn’t because whatever consultant they’re using as they develop this doesn’t have it on their radar. Which is something that would be a red flag to me for any diversity and inclusion work. There are surely marchers who need as the least dietary considerations for religious reasons.

They have that pretty well covered in most organizations.  I know the Cadets did ten years ago when Jim toured with them.

none of that has been made known. i doubt financially a corps would willingly leave world class

Are the all-age corps required to have the same background checks as the other DCI corps?
How about the alumni corps who are doing exhibitions at DCI shows? I ask because a lifetime sex offender almost slipped under the radar performing at DCI shows AFTER the Nadolny series of articles.  Someone saw him and reported it to the Cavaliers organization and they  removed him from the group.  Midwest Connection, an alumni group.

These procedures take a good amount of time.  I had two background checks recently for TSA precheck and a purchase. Six weeks minimum. I passed, btw.

i hope DCI hasn’t dropped the ball again considering that they have two lawsuits pending against them for abuse.

We’re getting off topic here. What type of style do you think SCV will be pushing towards? Will we see a return to the aggressiveness of 2017-2019? Personally, I think the 2024 show will be a return to the punk aesthetic a la 2019, but hopefully with a much better foundation.

That’s a good niche for them.  It works. I don’t know how much of the staff is retained from 2019.

I thought I was going to die when I did RA when I was 44.  And that was old timey stuff.

I wouldn't even do one of those stand in a horn arc things anymore. No offense to anyone who does that but I don’t want to wear a costume anymore.  I’ve been done playing for 22 years and absolutely fine with it.

The changes made 2014, could they be accredited with the Blue Coats overtaking the Cadets at finals ?

The Oprah tarp and saggy Capitol building? Lol the show was about Presidents.  The President only goes to the Capitol building once a year.  Maybe they were out of saggy White House tarps.  Oh and the stage where section 140 could see nothing but the pit. Fun stuff.

Ditto here. Dad served (Army Corps of Engineers) in Korea during the war but only talked about when he was in Canada working on part of the Defense Early Warning (DEW line) system. Thank goodness for MASH as pieces started coming out while watching (Kimpo airfield was never that big when I was there).

We need to get back to Phantom before my buddy @Sutasaurus gets mad at me.  😂

One more thing, though.  I found out my Dad served in Korea when they installed his gravestone. It said Korea on it. What a way to find out.  My family didn’t communicate well.

Thanks so much. Yep, if I wind up being half the man he was, I’ll have done well. He was in 3rd Army artillery and signal corps. (Prior to— and after—the war he worked for Texas Power and Light, which I think played a part in him being in the signal corps.) He never really talked about the bad stuff, including how he earned the medals, but did tell me a couple of the funny/interesting stories here and there.

It is like pulling teeth to get them to talk about their experiences.  I didn’t even know my father had served in Korea until after he had passed away.  I knew he’d been in (West) Germany but he never talked about Korea.  I can only surmise that he saw a lot.

    God bless your Grandfather.

Years back had in laws that part of PA. They took us to Philly and they pointed out the Chester exit. “What ever you do.. DON’T GET OFF THERE!”. Then we spend an afternoon on South Street in Philly. Kept overhearing about a bar bouncer who got the crap kicked out of him. “Yeah man they were pros, must have been a mob job”. 😦

You should have seen the security around that power site and he was there to design even more.

I've went to the San Bernardino show every year since 2018 when they moved the show RCC. Did something happen in particular?

True, San Bernardino the city IS NOT SAFE AT ALL! But if we are being honest, neither is Riverside where RCC is.

Exit RCC on the northwest side of the campus going up Magnolia Ave towards University Ave, you better pray you hit green lights. If you stop, your car might be on blocks by the time you hit the gas again lol.

Jim had to walk a site in Chester, PA years ago and he was told to not stop for anything. lol 😂.  They used to have a show there, too.

Speaking of valves & fingerings, we had a HS director of a HBCU style band in our district that one of his tuba students asked about fingering a certain note.  He told them, "don't worry about those valves; those are for the college kids. Just lip it".

Not sure how true, but it made for a great story at our district meeting. 😂

Sidenote @Terri Schehr - Illinois will have their hands full with Moorehead State. We had a former student play there a few years back. Should be a 'barn-burner'.

Edit: the Moorehead train derailed with about 5 minutes left. 😁

Lol just lip it.  Sounds like the old days.

The Illini are taking years off my life.

Exactly.  I preferred BD 2012 over BD 2014 which puts me in a minority I think, and I didn't care for much of anything they did between 2008-2011 or 2013 like a lot of people in this thread have said.  It's just personal taste.  Sentiments like "Tee-hee what the heck is DADA!?!?!?!? tee-hee-hee" being conflated with a lack of excellence by a corps?  GTFO.

I liked the show where they played Burt Bacharach songs.  The Godfather one.  Dance marathon.  I have no idea what years those were.

There was one show last year that I didn’t care for (I loved BDlast year so it wasn’t them) but I sat politely and watched because they were really good and I respect the members.

maybe i'm lucky.....i've never had interactions like that. well ok once.....DCA in Scranton. i walked to my seat for finals with 2 beers. guy next to me started to complain loudly about "an obnoxious drunk next to me.". then as 2 of my group showed up, i handed them their beers and shot the guy a look. Needless to say i heard not a peep, even when i eventually had a cold one myself.

but seriously if you let stuff like that affect your ability to enjoy it, you need to find ways to block it out. i'm not trying to be Johnny sunshine....anyone that knows me knows i see way too much stupidity in the world around us. I just find ways to block it out. Plus now when i am at shows, i have an adorable almost 12 year old to explain stuff to!

A guy next to me drank seven beers in Foxboro in 05.  It was none of my business.  I did do the math on how much it cost to drink seven crappy beers In that place.  He’d ran up quite a tab.
