  1. Funny how time has put things into perspective with some of us oldtimers. I, too, have grown to appreciate the experience over the placement as the years have gone by. I cherish the friendships, the memories and the overall sense of accomplishment. I marched in a small corps until I was 16, and then marched with a finalist for 3 years. I went on to teach a top 25 corps back in the early 80's. All of the experiences were equally satisfying in retrospect. Bravo Pioneer !
  2. Could Blue Devils "B" possibly make finals? Would it be allowed?
  3. ...and were beaten the next day by 27th at CYO Nationals. Who finished fourth (or fifth) at DCI finals. Bridgemen were scored in fourth before the disqualification was upheld.
  4. Another vote for BD 1996 prelims, opening hit.
  5. Ok, back to stuff that makes you cringe - first and foremost the "Impassioned Plea" . This consists of a guard member (usually wearing WAY too much make-up) running toward the audience, arms outstretched, with tears running down her face. Second is horn players trying to fly (esp. SCV - whom I love). I would be impressed if the horn line actually took flight, however doing this in a scatter drill just to get to your next dot is annoying. Third, the "ooooooooooh" isn't HE the sexiest soloist ever arm stroke and loving look given by the supposedly smitten guard number as she hears an eight bar solo for the 500th time Oh, and lest I forget, the CG member who does a toss and makes the fake "Oh My GOD I caught it face" before giving the audience a big smile as he/she leaps into the air and runs off with a big smile. Ugh
  6. If I may add two more great Connecticut corps, Emerald Cadets and the Surfers.
  7. Very early 70's - CMCC Warriors, St. Rita's, Boston Crusaders, Des Plaines Vanguard, Troopers, 27th Lancers, Anaheim
  8. As for all the Blue Man Group mentions - there are MANY Blue Men. I met a 1989 Madison Scout drummer after one of the shows in Boston.
  9. You beat me to the punch. You left out (honorable mention) the East Coast Jazz, multiple time Div II champions from Malden, MA.
  10. Unfortunately, Trooper's drum major will be the first to go. He moves too slowly. And his pistol will be useless among the hordes of undead.
  11. There was some asymmetry in drill from the beginning days of DCI, although SCV 1980 is generally credited with having the first show in which the majority of the drill was asymmetrical. 1979 27th Lancers drill had the "ferris wheel" rotation during Folk Song Suite", as well as a few other moments of asymmetry. (I had the privilege of watching Zingali write part of that drill at my kitchen table armed with various wires, rubber bands and a Spirograph - an unforgettable experience!)
  12. If possible, try a different movie theater next time. The sound at the Showcase Cinema in Revere, MA was superb. Leather recliners, great picture. Of course, if the nearest theater is 100 miles away....
  13. Isn't "The Birds" notable for having NO soundtrack? Curious what music was used.
  14. Five corps will preyend to fall asleep before, during, or after their show.
  15. As for the pronunciation, think of it as Notre Dame, which is pronounced Nawtre Dahm when referring to the Cathedral in France, and Noter Daym when referring to the University. Of course, Disney screwed that up with the movie.
  16. Bluecoats - Unique. Blue Devils - Seaworthy. Crown - Merciful. SCV - Retro. Cavies - Cacauphonous. Cadets - Stony. Blue Knights - Spacy. Phantom - Balladlicious. Blue Stars - Tiring. Crossmen - Surprising. Academy - Grave. Crusaders - Relieved.
