  1. DCI folks might well like a stop at Chatterbox, the jazz club on Mass Ave. It's walkable from downtown, but just take Lyft or Uber. It's one of the few places that is open much later than others. Also up Mass Ave way is Union 50, open until 2:00 and a spacious place for late night cocktails. St. Elmo has two great, classic bars and is near LOS and the main hotels. But it seems to close just as we're getting out of the shows! Just a block or so away is Kilroys, however, and it is usually open past 2:00 AM or so.
  2. Thanks for the responses. Very rainy around Indy the past few days. Some hard rain I thin, too.
  3. Did I see or hear that the Troopers are in Indiana somewhere for their training?
  4. You're right that the off season has seemed so very long. I'm unsettled on just how many twists and turns have been real and how many have been imagined in the anxious minds of DCP posters.
  5. Thanks for the post and link. It will help planning and avoid surprises at the entrance in July.
  6. Wait. So the forum comments here should not be silly?
  7. I know. I posted just before rushing off to a lecture. My fault for not slipping out of critical thinking mode.
  8. I really did read back through the uniform/costume portion of this. Did I miss that it is confirmed a change in uniforms is definitely costume-y and looks nothing like the traditional Scout uniform? If that's just a rumor, why is there so much misery about it? If it is confirmed, wouldn't it make sense to see what they look like before jumping straight to misery?
  9. I agree a uniform change could be messy. But it could also be quite good. We don't know without seeing what any change is, right? Until then, I am very happy to give current Scouts leaders a break on this.
  10. Me, too. Taking elderly parents who will see drum corps for the first time. So hoping the Cavaliers put on a grand Cavaliers show.
  11. Now that the Cavies have announced, and just two months from the Tour Premier, surely more will soon follow. Was it worth the wait all winter?
  12. This was a really nicely packaged announcement from the Cavaliers. At least from the perspective of a basic fan. I'm glad no one was leaking stuff.
  13. Something during at least one of the post-show evenings aimed at a late-night happy or social hour for fans would be great for me, anyway. On many other occasions Indy pops up tents or makes use of the Pan Am Plaza for gatherings. Would be great to have some drinks and deconstruct the shows with a variety of fans. Alternative, it's probably possible for some group to organize an experimental event like a late-night Happy Hour at one of the bars. If a crowd would attend, the bar might go for it. And there's also this line of thinking: The bar and restaurant managers aren't - typically - stupid about their businesses. If they saw a genuine demand for late night bar traffic while DCI finals are running, they'd probably like to take advantage of it. Any chance that, despite the comments here, there really isn't as much demand as we imagine for activities starting after the performances? After all, that's a lot of fans + families with things to do other than pay for food and drinks. For regular local late night, there's Mass Ave and, in recent years, Fountain Square areas (plus the aforementioned Broad Ripple) that serve some of that need.
  14. This unlikely satisfies any bored folks. But here it is: http://www.cntraveler.com/gallery/6-us-cities-to-watch-in-2017
  15. Both St. Elmo's and Harry & Izzy's should be on the list for cocktails and dinner. And they're convenient to LOS.
  16. It might be just me. But with really fast drills, I think I sometimes see a desperation from some members out on the field as they warp from spot to spot. It spoils any intended magic.
  17. I'm not opposed to all set pieces, but I agree that many - most? - seem to add little or no value. (Again for me, those lamps? C'mon.) And I like deftguy's perspective that the pieces get in the way of smart, creative drill work.
  18. I know nothing of him except from his mighty DCP presence, but I might put up $5 to see a BRASSO rollover. Maybe an hour before finals? And I think he gets what DCP is all about enough that he might have mentioned this hoping some of us would ask for a demonstration.
  19. Good idea. I'm taking parents to the Tour Premier in Indy. They've heard about drum corps since my band years in the 1970s but have never seen a drum corps perform. Hoping for something special from those great corps appearing on June 22. Plus, and of course, Harry & Izzy's for dinner.
  20. Good point. I'm looking forward to this response, too. And hoping it is a thoughtful, considered response. Not a flash-in-the-pan jump on a trend response.
  21. I sort of understand what you mean. But i like the announcer a lot. It's part down home Midwest, part lame, sure, but also partly honoring the tradition and culture of the corps and partly providing some intimacy to the experience. For me, anyway. The ad lib on The Academy last year was great. Made me recognize a bigger, shared experience was unfolding.
  22. Kind of interesting. Thanks. This or its derivative may have been the focus of other threads. But not everyone on here has been posting for long, or at least not for years. I don't mind if an old topic is revived; it's my choice whether I pay attention to it. And I'd rather folks post something that might be a fun topic rather than deprive us of it because they are worried there might have been something similar posted in the very long list of historical postings.
  23. Maybe Cirque du Soleil will sponsor it. Or at least sponsor the Bluecoats. It would be weird to be in Vegas and have to go someplace other than the strip. Maybe they'd offer a helicopter taxi? I know how to arrange that with the concierge. Just joshing ouooga. Never a bad idea to think differently. And no location is perfect. I wonder if Vegas would be a cool new spot for the members.
