Reportedly the train has left the station, and an announcement should be coming soon.

That’s what I heard as well. Someone posted on here about water industry. There’s an ED in the water industry that resigned “to pursue other interest” that I’m wondering if that’s the person. If so, nothing really impressed me on the resume…. But I am hopeful for change and move the org/entity and activity forward!

Indeed. SoA had a great open application process, run by a third party, that I hope more orgs in the industry will follow.

Uhhhhhh the only thing they changed was hire an ED and fire the corps manager. But the director assistant director and basically everyone else is still involved. Not much has changed to be honest other than they now take members seriously because they got put on blast. Splanta in my eyes “didn’t do much” and still doesn’t I believe now after all these years the ED might be full time?!

i'm torn. institutional knowledge of what drum corps actually is is incredibly important. look at SCV's hires recently...lack of drum corps knowledge was part of the issues that got them where they are

So what youre saying is we should have a CEO/ED who runs the business growth of DCI as an entity and a Director of Programs ,  Drum Corps  --  who helps run the drum corps side of what the entire DCI office does ?

Because I also agree that institutional knowledge is important, but its also time to get in there and grow the entity. There's so many things DCI can offer but yet I am not ssure why they don't, so let someone take care of the corps and their director and the CLevel suite of DCI grow the business -- thats in my honest opinion ....

  5. The Cadets, Jacob Gall, posted on facebook he will not be returning.

Jacob Gall is a huge loss in my opinion as someone who has been with the corps since 2006, teaching since 2009.

Long tenure during his era with changes in the percussion section design/leadership but he remained through it all. Wishing him the best of luck on his new adventures, wishing the cadets a huge positive vibe trying to find a replacement

  6. Treasure of the board DOES NOT equal CFO of the organization. He is on the board for checks and balances from the day to day staff. BIG DIFFERENCE. The CFO/Controller/Director of Finance, who reports to the CEO, has a dotted line of presenting financial reports to the board.

Two different positions, as someone mentioned above, the finance world is all digitized at this point, coming to an actual building to the work, is the same as working from home.

Now, to your otherstatement of talking to donors and being involved, I do find it interesting that the corps director lives in Florida, and not at all connected to California, but Russ Gavin should be the "face" and "shaking hands" in the community where he does live in california.

Honestly, he might be a good fit there. Assuming he picked up a few tips about how to write for a legacy corps, it would be an upgrade. The only thing I remember about Madison this past year was a hamster ball, but Cavaliers battery staging was a factor in their success in that caption.

He was at Madison on visual staff when I marched there, while Pete Weber was doing drill. Really positive presence and good information. Would love to see him find the right fit as a designer.

I agree and him going to Madison would allow him to not have the pressure he had with the top 12 corps ie regiment/cavies.

Bill Cook would beg to differ....

Are you sure? Star was more like a “Who’s Who” of the drum corps world.

and who ran the business.... Do some 990 research and youll see the were way ahead of the business game... yes it takes money to make money, so having capital to play is a plus, but having a bus company year round was a stream they figured it out to support the nonprofit and including the fact that they continued on to make money,.. Bill cook brought business mindset that in 2023 a lot of corps are still struggling, so with that being said, having a rando run the corps was absolutely right choice...

The transition to a new Executive Director and new Corps Directors (after the 2024 season) has been in the planning stage for two years.  It is clearly amicable and well thought out.  A tremendous job has been done by both of these fine gentlemen (Monte Mast and Dr. Michael Vaugh).
The Board of Directors also just elected new leadership roles, as has been planned for the last several years preparing for succession.  They will now get to guide the selection and onboarding of their two new main executive staff members.
And, the new ED and corps director will certainly be brought on with ample time to assimilate during the 2024 season so as to know the culture and be prepared for season-ending decision making responsibilities for the 2025 season.
Proud to know all of these fine people, including the just exiting board president, Chris Hartowicz, who oversaw and shepherded the organization through some difficult, though publicly quiet challenges, with the help of many excellent partners.
This, IMHO (with 40 years of non-profit management, fundraising, and board development professional background) is how transition and excellence can go hand in hand.
Thanks to all involved for loving my corps as much as I do.
    Splooie!

if all goes to plan this is exactly right... Maybe DCI could learn a thing or two from this... Couldn't agree more and excited to see the new on boarding two key leaders...

Thank you for the post and clarification !!!
