Realistically, I don't expect prices for drum corps to go down...Nor do I begrudge the promoters their fair share and the fans who support them...What I'd like to see is the corps getting serious money from an online service like FLO if the viewership numbers reflect a significant increase in DCI interest such that their profits from the broadcasts warrant a larger percentage for drum corps..I don't know if drum corps receives any money from FLO..I just assume that to be the case..That's all..PEACE

MarimbaMania has in my opinion, given a sincere and palpable observation based on the reality of discretionary money and it's effect on those who simply can no longer find it cost effective to attend live shows. These are probably the same people who can no longer afford live sporting events, live music concerts or live anything short of your high School's annual concert...That he's been reminded that you're supporting drum corps and it's young folk( Who fork out between 4 to 5 thousand dollars for this privilege) seems to border on a test of drum corps loyalty, when in fact, his position is probably shared by more than a few..If supporting mean going to FLO because you can't afford 800 dollars for finals or to drive two hours to see a show with 4 corps at 50 bucks a shot then at least appreciate the effort ..Those with the funds to go to live shows, God bless you..But those who can't, are no less enthusiastic to see this art form succeed and no less loyal than any other fan...imo...Peace

Rick Beato interviews world famous drummer Steve Gadd ,who mentions how the rudiments he got from drum corps, helped influence his drumming practices..A cool hour of Steely Dan nostalgia and jazz history..Peace

I still believe and I know i'm not alone, that the Bloo's first ending in 2019 was classy, complete and made more sense than the bombastic HEY JUDE ending that changed to compete with BD's surge as the season wore on..in this case, sometimes less is better..imo....peace

Since my early vinyl recordings of BAC and ST.KEVINS I'd always believed that one of them would be national(world) champions...Hopefully this year, BAC fulfills that long awaited goal...peace

His rendition of Stevie Wonder's "{Don't you worry bout a thing" is definitely drum corps worthy imo...peace

I'm just happy that the poster introduced me to an artist that BLEW ME AWAY..I am obviously late to the game as regards Mr. Collier but his arrangements, along with the TAKE SIX vocals on these two songs, soulfully moved me emotionally...If a corps could reproduce his work that would be fantastic..But if that never happens, I'd just like to thank the poster for a few minutes of bliss..peace

I don't know if I'm regressing but in addition to drum corps music, jazz and classical, at 74 yrs of age I've discovered a hip hop producer ( J Dilla ) whose music has influenced so many late 90's and early 2000's hip hop artists that i've grown to enjoy..Robert Glasper is a disciple..peace

As opposed to eliminating the excessive sodium and sugar on own, we wait until #### happens( symptoms) and then substitute good health practice with diet soda..Forgetting or ignoring the source of the problem.... Drum Corps 2023...peace

HBCU bands are famous. They have their own fans, YouTube channels, and on and on. What does DCI really offer their members?
Perhaps an additional experience to broaden their palate of musical and dance possibilities...And from what I understand, some of the greatest instruction available in the marching arts..peace

One issue with getting students in HBCU programs to do DCI is that their band camps often overlap with the last week or so of DCI and it is NON. NEGOTIABLE to miss band camp.
I'm all for recruiting, but let's be real, I bet many of the HBCU folks have no interesting in doing something the style of DCI, just like lots of the DCI folks hate doing "drum line battles". I feel like we often assume that everyone WANTS to do DCI, and if we just reached out (or lowered the costs etc) they would, when the reality is that plenty of people KNOW what DCI is, and just don't want to do it.You mean mm's might not want to march in Drum Corps'Major League?..Sacrebleu!..lol...peace
-
If only the Cadets sought HBCU recruits, is it fair to suggest that economics, not talent, has prevented greater participation from these schools in DCI?..And if this is a yes, is the future of DCI limited to those only, with significant discretionary money...OR has this always been the case since the touring model was adopted ?.peace
-
When I marched, we thought the HBCU style was "corny"(1960's) but with the anything goes movement in Drum corps today , it doesn't seem as corny as I once thought.peace

My apologies if this has already been discussed..If yes, what schools produce the most mm's

1986 27th Lancers as part of their "Sondheim Suite" show. Based on the Barbra Streisand/Peter Matz collaboration. Great stuff.
Thanks again for the info...just listened to 27th and with today's instrumentation imagined the arrangement to be OUTRAGEOUS..peace

So sad to wake and read about this horrible tragedy..To the families of Ms. Pellettiere and Ms. Ferarri , may God bless as they rest in peace.
