  1. I don't normally curse but this is ####### heartbreaking...My reason for returning to drum corps as a fan, was Garfield's 1982 show..since then..I'm sorry I can't continue this...peace
  2. Hy Dreitzer...!3 corps within 40 minutes of each other...talk about poaching..lol...sorry I just couldn't resist...peace
  3. Perhaps an additional experience to broaden their palate of musical and dance possibilities...And from what I understand, some of the greatest instruction available in the marching arts..peace
  4. You mean mm's might not want to march in Drum Corps'Major League?..Sacrebleu!..lol...peace
  5. If only the Cadets sought HBCU recruits, is it fair to suggest that economics, not talent, has prevented greater participation from these schools in DCI?..And if this is a yes, is the future of DCI limited to those only, with significant discretionary money...OR has this always been the case since the touring model was adopted ?.peace
  6. When I marched, we thought the HBCU style was "corny"(1960's) but with the anything goes movement in Drum corps today , it doesn't seem as corny as I once thought.peace
  7. My apologies if this has already been discussed..If yes, what schools produce the most mm's
  8. Thanks again for the info...just listened to 27th and with today's instrumentation imagined the arrangement to be OUTRAGEOUS..peace
  9. So sad to wake and read about this horrible tragedy..To the families of Ms. Pellettiere and Ms. Ferarri , may God bless as they rest in peace.
  10. So pleased to see Gardner's work tailored for adult learning...Multiple Intelligences was used in an experiment done in N.Y.C. in the early 1990's produced by the "Soup to Nuts" company for the NYC board of education...MI was successfully implemented in an elementary school where reading and math scores rose significantly after the students were introduced to this new way of learning. Funding and teacher resistance prevented wide spread use of MI at the time but it's viability was unquestioned..I did the narration on a series of VHS tapes that documented the experiment, eventually shown on PBS..I personally adopted MI to help my children use the " more than one way of being smart" approach...Thankfully, it worked..peace
  11. Has any corps Played "Being Alive" from COMPANY..If so who and what year?..Heard it on a PBS special honoring Sondheim...perfect for BD, Cadets, Crown and BAC imo...peace
  12. "The Iridescent Spree" by Kurt Elling and Charlie Hunter..I can hear BLOO playing this or Mandarins
  13. As a fan of drum corps I have nothing to add to this subject other than this: We live in a country governed by LAWS..Once made aware of our responsibilities under these laws we either follow them to the letter, bend them to suit our agendas(but still legal) or ignore them altogether...If a law is broken, the offender is expected to pay the penalty regardless of status, wealth etc...So, if an organization is not in compliance with the law and the governing body( State of California) prohibits their continuance until they've paid the penalty and reestablished their credibility, this is not a drum corps issue, but rather a legal one as Jeff Ream has stated several times...It would seem that everything else is moot...I'd like to see SCV on the field in 2024 as would most of us, but unless and until the LEGAL is definitively CLEARED, 2024 competitively has to be on hold...no?
  14. The FUNLINER review of the Cadets 2023 production confirms my observation that it was so challenging physically that my marching generation would have thrown up their beers trying some of the moves the Cadets accomplished...Also noteworthy were the Bluecoats physicality . A horn player MUST also be a dancer in top tier drum corps and these two corps personified that fact for me...Thanks for a great season! peace
  15. I run/jog most mornings about a mile...first quarter mile this drum corps season I listened to Cadets 2023 opener....2nd qtr. mile Mandarins 2023 Sinnerman ..third qtr. mile Pacific Crest 2019 "Chinatown" and last but not least the closing qtr. is BD 1982 ...At 73 I don't know how much longer I'll be able to run but as long as there is drum corps to motivate me, We'll see..Peace
  16. Grown man tears here...Video brought back so many good memories of my drum corps life...And good memories of seeing live drum corps again this year..Cadets are my drum corps muse...Keep rising to excellence..Peace
  17. 1 Cadets 2 Bluecoats 3 Crown 4 BD 5 Cavaliers
  18. This dino became intoxicated with drum corps because of the MUSIC...Even after becoming a marching member. it was always about the music..When Hy Dreitzer gave us his arrangements we couldn't wait to play our ##### off because the MUSIC turned US on.. With the introduction of the b flat horn the possibilities for arrangements is limitless..My only hope is that the MUSIC never becomes subordinate to the drill/body movement..Bluecoats produced some of the most MUSICAL moments for me, as did Crown, Cadets, Phantom, and Mandarins...If the visual continues to push the envelope, with anything you can get on and off the field in 17 minutes, then let's consider amending the drum corps nomenclature to relect what it has evolved into..(.Dance and movement supported by music in an 8 to 11plus minute production)..I'm not hating because if that's what the people want then so be it..and if that is what already exists and I'm late to the game, again, so be it...peace
  19. The Cavaliers' opener (Somewhere over the rainbow) is my favorite quiet opening piece of music this year..good luck in 2024 and thanks again for a memorable year...peace
  20. BTW...They looked so good in their traditional uniforms at retreat..outrageous!..lol
  21. To " The one who knows": Thank you for your updates prior to and during the season...Your faith in the possibilities for 2023 became realized last night in LOS....5th place this year feels like a medal year ..I know there are those who expect more from the Cadets and hopefully the trajectory for that success keeps rising...But these last six weeks have restored the FEELING that I had in 1982 that something special is coming..Cadets may not have taken first place on the sheets but once again they're competitive and fan favorites..And that's a good thing!.....Peace
  22. I understand where you're coming from..The only difference is, as has been stated, BD's formula for success has been around for years now whereas STAR left me saying " What the hell did I just see?...But by finals, it was clear that they were on a whole different level and I loved it
  23. DAYGO: Your son was right..This has and is a special season..one down two to go...KEEP RISING!
  24. I request the MODS remove this topic..and I know what retreat is for..peace
