  1. By my count it was $57 ;) I wish they'd had more crap- I am a sucker for buying crap. They could have plumped their coffers with me around! Give me t shirts, key chains...heck...sell me a program... We really did enjoy the evening. We hope to catch a few more of the shows this summer. In our section of the crowd the people were generally friendly. It seemed to be a fair mix of staff/corps affiliates and families. They jumped right into the prater with my child and added to things I was pointing out about music or show making it even more enjoyable.
  2. (Don't hurt me, I'm new- and I hope you all don't mind me jumping in).... I attended the Wildwood show with my husband and child. It is the first DCA show we have ever seen- I never even knew DCA existed until this year! I loved watching DCI on pbs when I was younger and was fortunate enough to have nearly the whole staff of my HS marching band populated by DCI people so I have enjoyed those shows over the years. When my own children were young I took them to DCI shows to inspire them to practice (weird plan really though since they both played violin which isn't a drum corps instrument...well, it wasn't at the time). The Wildwood show was great. The venue was small enough that we could really see the show and hear the individual instrumentalists, and see the the front and each performers moves. My usually disinterested newly teen child was really engaged in the performances. We clapped and cheered and found something exciting about each group. I have never understood that idea that someone else's successes takes away from your own so it was easy for us as a family to celebrate the great parts about each group. My older child joined one of the corps this year (thus how we found out about DCA) and we were impressed by them just as we were the other groups. All but one group had trombones featured with varying success, another had actual french horns (I love the French horn to the dismay of my family). It was interesting to see and hear the play with instrumentation. Certainly we could see the potential in all the shows and enjoyed them immensely. As a family though we felt the cabs needed to do more with their featured dancer- just waving the costume around was a bit boring...but certainly we can see how there could be a lot of drama with her position. We enjoyed the energy in the fusion show, but at some point it felt like there was just too much going on (where to look? where to look? too much so just no where)..otherwise we loved everything we saw!
