  1. People have been screaming their heads off for Bloo for decades....long before they broke into Top 5. Some shows/corps elicit an emotional reaction, while others are appreciated but not openly acknowledged as being great. Some shows are more conducive to crowd excitement. Even in the theater for Prelims, when Cadets showed some spark and elements that reminded me of the glory days, I wanted to jump out of my seat...and that wasn't even in person.
  2. General Effect 1: Greg Llacer & Warren Rickart General Effect 2: Glen Fugett & Mark McGahey Visual Proficiency: Michael Turner Visual Analysis: Tim Pierce Color Guard: Damon Padilla Music Brass: Paul McGarr Music Analysis: Jeff Harper & Jay Webb Music Percussion: Chris Rapacki Chief Judge: John Phillips
  3. They've been in domes many times, and the MMs are quite experienced. Being in LucasOil is a non-issue for them. Who knows why they seemed tentative? I suppose we will see tonight if it was an isolated occurrence.
  4. 25 proceed to Semi-Finals from Prelims (all corps). The 2 nights were more differentiated when there were more corps. But now, as you correctly pointed out, there isn't much difference. Nevertheless, it gives the corps another opportunity to perform, and fans another viewing.
  5. So now BAC is pulling the "bad run last night" narrative? 🙂 Careful....I believe BD owns the exclusive right to that claim.
  6. What do you propose that BAC improve upon? They seemed quite strong Thursday. Their weakness is GE, and barring any surprise addition/change to the show, I'm not sure they can find enough increase in scoring to overcome the gap.
  7. If I wanted body movement, I would go to the ballet. It seems like a waste of talent to have brass members rolling around on the ground for such an excessive amount of time. While I absolutely acknowledge that today's drum corps shows are more intricate, and possibly more enjoyable, than decades prior, I feel that the amount of showtime dedicated to choreography has become excessive.
  8. Yeah, the good 'ole running down the line, having each person play a lick, and then a response from tech of "good" or "don't play that part...just move your valves" public shaming.
  9. I was going to say, "let's hope the other judges on Saturday" have the same read on Crown, but then I saw he gave the same overall score as the other GE2, so I believe they wil be fine in that caption....plus it's the music-focused judges in GE2, which is Crown's strength. Someone on here pointed out to "just look to see where Crown is at the top, to determine which of GE1/GE2 is the music-focused judge(s)". Turns out to be solid advice.
  10. BAC's weakness (at least based on scores) is GE. 4th in GE1 (judges have visual backgrounds) and 3rd in GE2 (judges have music backgrounds). 4th in overall GE. Also, their color guard achievement is ranked 3rd (but 1st for content). Also, GE is weighted higher, at 40% of total score. Total GE is 0.475 is behind 3rd place for GE. This gap is too large to be adequately offset by their higher rankings elsewhere. 3 of the 4 GE judges ranked BAC 4th in content-repertoire. So, it's more of a design issue than achievement. Yes...they are quite clean....but that is also why they slowed a bit in their progression vs other corps, as BAC is mostly at or above content, for achievement scores. 38.50 GE achievement vs 38.35 content. Looking at the recap, it seems that achievement scores somewhat follow content for GE. It's not like other captions, where you could be significantly over/underperforming content. How does a corps overachieve GE content? With brass, they either nail a lick, or it's sloppy. Same with percussion. The judges have determined that BAC's show does not have the same GE impact at other corps' shows. In summary, while BAC's show is certainly quite good, the design (in the eyes of the judges) is not as strong as the 3 above them. Perhaps the Thursday judging panel just didn't like BAC, and the Saturday panel will see things differently. I suppose one could review recaps from prior shows to see how BAC was scored by the same judges relative to others, to look for anomalies with certain judges. There may be some room to run with guard, as they were 2nd to BD by 0.1, with achievement being 0.2 behind content. So, there you have it, BAC staff....this first scores analysis is complimentary. We can discuss my retainer fee and hourly rate for future analysis. 🙂
  11. Well, we now know it's over for 2-4s' shot at Gold. Good run, though. BD will most certainly be cleaner Saturday, so if they won tonight, all hope is lost.
  12. I'll correct this for you.... Nobody in the Top 4 moved as sloppily as BD tonight.
  13. Really not a BD hater. But....if BD is at top tonight, it's merely due to their name. Noticed some sloppiness, most notably in Bari feature near beginning, and tubas feature near end, as well as visual sloppiness and bad forms.
  14. I give up! Calling a 3-way tie. Someone recently commented that this is among the best years for shows. I felt it was a bit exagerrated, but now I'm leaning toward getting on that bandwagon.
  15. Near the end: on left side of field....right? Thought I saw it,but theater cam didn't stick with it long.
  16. In the Holy Name of all that is tremendous......the Cadets....are....B-A-C-K!!!!!! Well done, Cadets!!!!
  17. There are still lots of rooms available in the Indy area for Saturday night. Sure, the downtown hotels re $400 and up, but there are rooms less than 10 miles from LucasOil for $225 or so. So, it appears that Indy CAN, in fact, handle multiple events at once. Of course: this is separate from the MM housing issue.
  18. So the trend of MMs staying in hotels is a result of school housing shortage, and not to increase comfort during finals week?
  19. So where do you propose? Kansas? Missouri? ..... The 2 states in approximately the exact center of the US? Then rearrange the tour shows to route the corps to end up in those states by finals? Indy seems to be as about as good of a spot geographically as any.
  20. BC percussion, in not too distant memory, was a drain on the corps...then they earned a Sanford.
  21. Isn't it SUPPOSED to sound rough? If they wanted a more mellow sound, they would have used other instrumentation.
