  1. Walmart has (will have.) a new self check out policy. Only people who pay for their $99/annual membership wil be able to use self-checkout. Yes, you will have to PAY to do their work for them! All others will have to use a regular check out, of which there is usually only ONE open at any give time. I used to go to Walmart every week (fully clothed and normal looking!), now i am down to once a month, but going forward i will just bulk order and get it delivered for free.
  2. TRacer, i am sorry you have had to live with this. And I absolutely understand being ok with knowing your abuser is dead. Mine is not, and lives near by. I wouldn’t wish him dead, but would not mourn his passing. when we all think about what this plaintiff wants from this action, obv none of us can know. What i DO know is that, in a civil action, she has final say in moving forward. She likely knew when she filed that there aren’t deep pockets here, but she filed anyway. When she was advised that this would necessitate shutting down the Cadets permanently, she could have said “no, don’t let that happen”. She did not. To me, that sounds like wanting justice above all else. Would i do that? Probably not. Do i begrudge HER for doing that? Absolutely not.
  3. Interesting tho-no matter how much the crowds in Allentown tried to downplay or appear blase about BD, no one ever left their seats when they took the field.
  4. The ABBD/Cali corps animosity in Allentown was real, at least in the 70s-90s. The Crossmen and Cadets fans in the early days had a real chip on their shoulders because they felt BD and SCV would just come onto their turf and try to show them up.
  5. I took a friend that night. This was her intro to drum corps. Told her she shouldn’t count on ever seeing a better show.
  6. I thought you were agreeing but sometimes i read people wrong!
  7. I think you know exactly what i meant but just inn case you don’t: it’s bitterness to imply that what the MMs, design team, and instructors do isn’t even necessary, as they would win by just showing up. People don’t have to like their shows, or whatever perceived advantages they feel the corp may have, but to discount their talent, their hard work, and their showmanship by saying it doesn’t matter smacks of plain old jealousy. I don’t care for several shows from year to year, but i always appreciate the effort and talent.
  8. I detect a note of bitterness. Funny, i thought tears tasted of salt?
  9. Well said. As a survivor of sexual assault at 15, i can assure you that it has impacted me for the 50 years since, and will probably impact me in some way, for the rest of my life. Most people don’t understand that surviving this type of trauma affects choices you make in your life, such as who to date, who to marry, when to leave, etc. It contributes to risk-taking and lack of impulse control. A major decision i made at 18 was influenced by that assault, and scripted my entire adult life, in a manner not at all consistent with my hopes and dreams. And i am an emotionally strong woman. If i were of a weaker emotional build, it could have destroyed me.
  10. Psst…. There is a feature called “ignore”. I think that’s what it’s there for.
  11. BoRhap is my very favorite song but that was just plain strange. (Fred probably would have loved it, tho!)
  12. I have no problem with “non-rifle rifles”, sabers, rings, hoops, balls, or any other kind of equipment. Flags, swing flags, split flags, ging gongs, banners, all good with me. Handling the equipment is what i enjoy. I also have NO problem with dancers and dancing. In fact, dancing in addition to, or in conjunction with, equipment handling is great. I am a BD honk. How could i say otherwise? I just don’t EVER want dancing to replace equipment work.
  13. And that is when i will stop following drum corps. As a fan, i listen to, and love, the music, but i watch the colorguard almost exclusively. I absolutely believe dance and movement in the MM helps to tie it all together but watching a colorguard doing equipment work is my drug of choice.
  14. It’s a naive response, for sure, but here in PA and NJ i know people who WILL drive an hour for bingo if the pots are good and the hall is nice. And the $2 mil increase does seem to be reflected in their gaming profits.
  15. I just assumed they reaped the Bingo revenues that SCV lost?
  16. Whether i believe you should sue all of those peripheral people doesn’t matter. It is how it is done. Judges and mediators are very skilled at figuring out who really holds liability and who doesn’t. They will, often times, hold someone accountable but require them to pay a pittance. i think the judge is working hard to get this person her day in court, so she can tell her truth and put it behind her. Solid proof will be hard to come by on all sides. In the end, there will be a judgment or settlement in her favor, but I don’t see it being large. Maybe large enough to shutter Cadets forever. But also maybe not. I think, as was mentioned earlier, her attorneys really wanted a settlement offer they could live with. No one wins going to trial against defendants who have little to no money or assets.
  17. Curious. I get your point, and there is a very small part of me that might even agree. But would you be put out and let a murderer walk free if their crime was solved after 40 years? Would you want some kind of justice, even just money, if this was a member of your family who just came forward? Maybe in all of the pages of this thread someone has already asked you this. If so, i will delete the post.
