I believe they said 76 at the DCI West BBQ. If not, it’s definitely in the high 70s.

On all corps so far it seems. So it must be a Flo thing.

It’s always a bit cringey to me when a corps’ thread gets commandeered by conversations about another corp.

They didn’t give us that info, unfortunately. They did, however, tell us that of the 183 members, 20 originated from BDB and 3 from BDC.

Just go to the anime and JJBA reddit threads and you see a bunch of people who don’t know DCI want to see a drum corps show because of BD these past couple of years. I think that’s awesome!

He pronounces Sinnerman like how my dad pronounces Spiderman - like a last name instead of a someone who is part spider and part man. Also, the Mandarins merch booth needs to start selling “Sinnerman Rolls” with extra “sinnamon”.

You got it, Chief 🫡 If my little 8-year-old self had known that this blue “marching band” on PBS was going to be the focus of a lot of bitterness in this activity, I’d have chosen a different corps to get obsessed about. But the heart wants what the heart wants. 💙

I have no further details aside from what we were told at the BBQ. But being that camp is in Wyoming, I’m not sure what moving to California would accomplish for the MM unless they were already planning to do so for other reasons. Also, I would assume that there would be a preference for their state of origin in stats. For example, and also anecdotally, I know one marching member in particular who moved to CA for college but still reps Texas in their bio.

This desire to want to learn more about the theme, I believe, is the reason why BD and many other corps pick show themes that may seem too abstract at first but in reality it’s just a subject matter we don’t know about yet.

We discussed some stats previously in the BD thread that I think might be helpful. At the DCI West picnic, BD said that out of 183 members (including alternates): about 100 of their members are from California, with the rest being from 26 other states, and 3 international (Japan, UK, and Netherlands).

During the live shows I attended, in some parts, I will admit that I think a standing ovation wouldn’t be the appropriate response to BD’s, say, ballad, for example. What I did hear was an audible exhale from the crowd after the release in the last big chord. I think that was the appropriate reaction to that ballad. However, if there are “adults” out there who let their vindictiveness get in the way of cheering on the accomplishment of these young adults, then I’m just embarrassed for them.

My OCD approves of this suggestion. Lol

This activity thrives on perseverance and hope so I don’t blame them. Just like I hope BD will win perc and brass. But LFGBD anyway!

Now that you mention it, I noticed the screamer in the ballad didn’t attempt his usual screamer notes last night. Which, judging from the past few shows, I think is the right call. But I’m still holding out hope that he actually does have those notes in him and BD is only waiting to until finals to unleash the beast. Haha

Looks like they patched up those cut-outs on the blue props. I suppose they were an abandoned idea. 🤷

My nearest theater is only 5 miles away BUT it's also at Universal City Walk at Universal Studios and I would have to pay $30 just for parking. So, I'm staying home as well where I have an open bar. lol

Is anyone here attending rehearsal tomorrow (8/10) morning? I know @Chief Guns is in Indy but will understandably be preoccupied with the Mandarins. I don’t necessarily need a play-by-play, just a general impression of cleanliness and/or any additions to the show. I’m getting serious FOMO now. 💙

Man, I’m getting serious FOMO.

Just saw a recipe for the Pittsburgh show and they did some rearranging for a few parts and added a few more things here and there. The additions of the power ballad-style drumset to the ballad and the rallentandos, in particular, are a nice touch. Gosh, I really love this show. And especially this ballad.

The cut outs are there. I’m starting to think that either it is an abandoned idea or we’re in for a surprise.
