  1. It's done for Cavies. First step to 11th place happened tonight ๐Ÿ™‚
  2. Ok, we can breathe. There is nothing to worry about here. This is a great vehicle for Regiment. They were 12th in 2019, as you all know, and they beat the 2019 8th place corps tonight, and are closer than they've been to Cavies since 2015. This is a great start for Regiment. My favorite show of the night, although I think Bluecoats are insane with their design, and it's going to be a BD-Bloo race, but Regiment has the vehicle to take them to much better heights than 2019.
  3. My thoughts exactly in June 2017, June 2018 and June 2019. I've learned never to count BD out. Until something drastic changes in Concord, they'll be at the top, fighting for the title, every year.
  4. My order of favorites tonight. 1. Bluecoats (hands down the best designed show here, by far) 2. Regiment (I absolutely love this show. Welcome back Regiment) 3. Boston (a step up from 2019, but overhyped per usual) 4. Blue Stars (love the colors, this one will grow on me) 5. Cavies (didn't like) 6. Corpsmen (didn't like)
  5. The judges are going to eat the #### out of Bluecoats show all season. I'm not the biggest Bloo fan but IMO BD has the only show that can top Bluecoats. I don't want either of them to win (would rather have Vanguard or Crown), but IMO these two have a leg up on everyone in design this year.
  6. I don't need to wait for Crown. I've seen their show. It's going to be a BD-Bloo race.
  7. And 2019 has no baring on what will happen this season. Any number of guards can win best guard this year.
  8. There's no way this season isn't going to be another BD - Bloo showdown for the title. These two will be 1-2 all season.
  9. I agree. I was disappointed in this show. I do think it's a better design than 2017-2019 - well playing more to the sheets. I think they've been overhyped once again. Going to be tough for this show to medal. I mean people saying they are on BD's level. Ridic.
  10. Yeah, I loved BD in 2018 too. That was a great show. I'm liking tonight so far. Regiment is amazing.
  11. They were great. They won unlike the 2022 11th place corps.
  12. I think you could put Madison's '88 Malagueรฑa, '86 Devils Channel One, '87 Vanguard Russian Christmas Music, Garfield '87, Star '91 - and a million more examples that parallel Regiment '96. Back then it was about great music with great drill that reflecting what's going on in the music. I don't feel it's about that today, I feel it's all about scores. Not that it wasn't about scores back then, but the sheets have changed and the corps are playing to those sheets. That's DCI's fault, not the corps fault. There are shows I've liked in recent years (2014 and 2019 excepted - liked no one those years). I loved Bluecoats in 2016 and 2017, Vanguard and Devils in 2017, Vanguard 2018 was the best show in more than a decade IMO. You get some shows in there, but in the 80s and 90s and even into the 2000s I could go to quarters, semis and finals, watch everyone and not get enough. In 2014 and 2019 I didn't even bother watching finals week, because I was so bored. But, most years there are 1-3 shows I like. That's sad, It used to be a couple dozen or more.
  13. And I love those stupid movies like Independence Day, Deep Impact, etc.... horrible movies but great special effects. I guess that's a good way to look at drum corps today - special effects galore and little substance.
  14. That's it. Exactly. Movies are a whole different thing entirely. While I can appreciate the quality of the performance in drum corps, I feel like it's a "make everything as hard as possible to get the most points" thing which is to the detriment, HUGE detriment of the music. Thank God no one is playing Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, Schubert or Haydn on the field (well if they are I can't recognize it, Thank God) because I would flip the F out having to hear botched arrangements of these, my favorite, great composers. We've lost musicality in drum corps because the writing is geared towards creating the most demand and content. It's a huge flaw in the judging system and it's a detriment to the fans as well. Then we have corps playing 8-10+ pieces all within a 10 minute show. That's ridiculous. There's no build, there's no sustained melody, there's no musicality. It's all rush rush rush to the next. Go listen to Regiment's opener from 1996 and tell me there is anything as good as that, from a musicality standpoint, on the filed today. There isn't. I could list a 1,000 other examples in addition to '96 Regiment. Again, I enjoy today's drum corps for what it is, but I go to be awed from a technical standpoint now rather than to be entertained. That's the reason why, if you're under 6th place and I don't like your show, I'm just not bothering with you, and if you're under 12th place, forget it. I'm not going to waste hours on something that bores me to death. At least, with the top corps, I can marvel at the technical wonder they present and appreciate that. With the lower tier corps, there is nothing there for me. Sorry, I'm being blunt and brutally honest here, but DCI has really crapped the bed when it came to their scoring system. So far, hands down, my favorite show of the season is Regiment, then probably followed by Madison. I'm even off my beloved Vanguard. We'll see if my opinion changes over the course of the season. I do think it's better than 2019, but that initial excitement has worn off, it's just meh to me now.
  15. I agree with you and Cappybara. I find things to enjoy in shows despite the fact that I don't ever understand the theme, well almost never, but I don't bother trying to understand it either. I just want good music and good visuals. The part I have a hard time with is the music. Madison for example - If I wasn't such a huge Chess fan, I wouldn't have noticed they are playing One Night in Bangkok. Why not just play One Night in Bangkok the way the B's in ABBA wrote it, because they certainly wrote it better than Madison's arrangers? Answer: because all music today has to be a big technical exercise to score well. It's the same reason why Bluecoats did a Beatles show without any Beatles music in it ๐Ÿ˜€
  16. Definitely behind Bluecoats, Boston and Cavies tonight and through the remainder of the season. With Blue Stars, I've been hearing mixed things, and I haven't heard anything about Crossmen, so Regiment will be 4th, 5th or 6th tonight. If I had to place a bet, I would bet on 4th. I think this show could place as high as 7th (max) by the end of the season, but it's all going to depend on what the judges think, how everyone else does, and how well Regiment's performers do. There are a lot of variables.
  17. I too am tossing them into the Top 12. They have a GREAT product this year.
  18. The Regiment hype is real. Saw their show. Easily their best since 2015, if not 2013. Where it places remains to be seen, but I am so happy to see a show this well designed musically and visually out of them. It's been a long time.
  19. I would agree. After seeing them three times now, I'm uncertain. After seeing BD two times I am even more uncertain about Vanguard. BD is so good and their product is so good. With their track record, they are my pick to win it all this year. No, I have not seen anyone else, but if you're going to make a brash prediction, predicting BD to win it all is the safest one you can make. Their show just has it all. It's really something.
  20. I get what you're saying, but there is a thing we all have called bias. I have biases for certain corps and against other corps. In other words, I see the best in some corps and the worst in other corps. For years, I was a voice in the chorus who said BD shows were easy, and they had no drill, and they shouldn't be winning. That was my bias. I've overcome that and look back at those BD shows and think what a fool I was at that time, and now recognize that they've deserved every win they have gotten, whether I like it or not. And, I don't like it ๐Ÿ™‚
  21. Seriously - WTF!!! It is not "from Sanna Clara, California, the Sanna Clara Vanguard." I hate this announcer.
  22. Mandarins have such a great show. I love everything about it (except the vocalist).
  23. Well I wonder how well that bodes for them considering according to everyone on here every single corps has a much better this and than 2019. I love the Blue Stars, and have no idea how they will place, but "much better' doesn't mean anything because most people saying that are wrong, so who can we believe?
