  1. I got curious recently, and I checked the recaps from 1992, to see how SCV's drums did, scores-wise. Obviously, that drumline is one of the most celebrated ever; but I wanted to know why they didn't win high drums at Finals, or at least come close. Turns out that their late-season scores fluctuated pretty heavily, from show to show, and even from Quarterfinals to Semi's to Finals. My question is why? Is anyone here familiar enough with that group, and with the '92 season in general, to say why SCV's drums didn't do extremely well competitively? I mean, according to this recording, they were immaculate:
  2. Thanks for all of the informative responses, ladies and gentlemen. I'll reach out to a few corps and see who's interested in having me try out. Maybe you'll see me out on the field next summer!
  3. So, I'm in my early 40's, and I'm at a place where I'd like to cross some items off of my bucket list; one of those items being "March a season of drum corps." Obviously, I can't march a DCI corps, but I am interested in the Reading Buccaneers, because I'm a battery percussionist, and because their battery books interest me most. The problem is my age. I see that all of the Bucs' drumline cats are young, but I don't know if that's because of a lack of interest from older folks, or if it's because the culture there is centered around younger musicians. Would it be strange or disruptive if someone my age tried out and marched a season with the Bucs? Honesty is appreciated and won't hurt my feelings. Thanks.
