  1. Will the corps who did perform their full show receive a score for tonight?
  2. Where I am sitting, it feels like they put 15 seat numbers in a space big enough for 12 people. We are packed in like sardines. I heard an argument because someone didn’t have enough room to sit. The problem - no one else had enough room either. posted from the DrumScorps app
  3. For those coming to Texas this week, here are the current hourly forecasts for the outdoor shows this week. Denton weather forecast Show time 93 degrees with a feels like of 96 degrees Score time 85 degrees with a feels like of 88 degrees Belton weather forecast Showtime 93 degrees with a feels like of 100 degrees Score time 85-88 degrees with a feels like of 92-95 degrees Katy weather forecast Showtime 90 degrees with a feels like of 99 degrees Score time 81 degrees with a feels like of 88 degrees Remember, it will be warmer than this at any rehearsals you may be going to and in the lot before the show. Take care of your self so you can enjoy the shows. Hydrate, don't die-drate.
  4. Originally written by Trent Reznor and performed by Nine Inch Nails, it was later covered by Johnny Cash.
  5. WOW!!!! So the people who had their tickets in hand and the people picking up their tickets from will call had issues? Hopefully both problems are resolved for this year.
  6. I didn't go to that show last year, but I am going this year. What happened? I want to be prepared before I get there.
  7. I have never been to the Mesquite show and the Denton show is at a different stadium from last year. Katy is metal benches. I went to the DCI show there last year and a high school marching contest there in the fall. It's a great stadium for watching shows, but last year I learned at the DCI show to take my stadium seats to the high school contest.
  8. Hill Country, too - New Braunfels, Fredricksburg.
  9. As a life long Texas resident, here is my advice. Texas in July is hot and humid. You will encounter actual temperature near or exceeding 100 degrees F & heat indices will be higher. In the Houston area, we consider 50% humidity to be low. If you go to an outdoor show, plan to drink lots of water and put on lots of sunscreen. Sunset in July is usually around 8:30pm. People who aren't from this part of the country often don't realize how far apart the cities in Texas really are. Without dealing with rush hours, it's a 4 hour & 20 minute drive from Denton to Katy. Another 2 hours and 40 minutes from Katy to San Antonio. San Antonio back to Mesquite is 4 hours and 30 minutes. It absolutely can be done. I will be driving that again this year. Just be sure to plan accordingly.Thankfully, there are Buc-ee's along the way.
  10. My daughter plays trumpet at school & mello in drum corps. Her band director also doesn’t let anyone borrow band instruments and after marching season, those instruments are put away so that no one could even use them in the band hall. His policy doesn’t have anything to do with people learning other instruments. It’s because too many people have damaged those instruments We bought this off Amazon for her to practice with. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003BVG0WC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Its almost $500, but it is brand new & works perfectly. I hope this is helpful.
  11. How would this prevent sexual predators or sexual assault? It wouldn't. It would only mean that if anything happened, the victim would be an adult instead of a minor.
  12. Fixed the spelling error - not enough caffeine yet. If you are not implying that the victim's age is a factor, then what is the purpose of a minimum age for World Class or a lower maximum age for Open Class? As I stated, an under 18 year old who has already experienced success in World Class will not march Open Class. And setting a maximum age of 17 for Open Class will essentially age out many marching members at 17. Just like there are marching members who are younger than 18 in World Class, there are marching members who are older than 17 in Open Class.
  13. How would having separate age groups prevent predators? Having separate age groups is not the answer. 1. This is saying that it's the victim's fault because of his/her age. The victim is NEVER at fault. NEVER. EVER. 2. DCI says there can be no sexual contact between staff and marching members regardless of age. It doesn't matter if the staff member and the marching member are both 22. It is against the rules. Period. 3. DCI says there can be no sexual contact between a marching member who is over 18 with a marching member who is under 18. I was there during the webinar that every corps was required to attend. #2 and #3 above were clearly spelled out in no uncertain terms. What is and what is not harassment were the focus of the questions the panel received. However, it was clearly stated - no relationships between staff & marching members and no physical relationships between those who are 18 or older with those who are 18 and younger. No ambiguity. How would this hurt the activity? 1. It would give the implication that the problem is the marching members instead of the predators. 2. It would exclude some of the most talented youth. Those who have already had success in World Class will not go back to marching Open Class. Asking them to do so is an insult. (see #1 above). Marching members should NOT be punished because staff don't/can't/won't act professionally. 3. It would give the impression that that type of activity between staff and marching members is acceptable in World Class. Again, no matter the victim's age, no matter the victim's gender, the victim is NEVER EVER at fault. NEVER!!!!!!
  14. Believe it or not, there were under 18's on the field during Final Retreat at the DCI World Championships this year. What would you tell those marching members? You're too young to do this? You can't compete at this level until you're older? Grandfather them? Cappybara made a valid statement. It's not right to tell those younger members who are talented and dedicated enough to succeed at the top levels of this activity that they are part of the problem. They have nothing to do with this problem. The abusers and only the abusers are the problem. Don't punish a potential victim for something that might happen thinking that will prevent it. And honestly, it doesn't matter how old or young the victim is. If an instructor is making advances toward a marching member, its wrong, whether the member is 17 or 21.
