  1. To the Spirit family:

You may be disappointed in yesterday’s score/placement - and that’s OK and understandable.

But do NOT be disappointed in yourselves!

This is a truly enjoyable show and these kids - young kids at that - are killing it out there.

You have already WON - you have brought back a corps that many people thought may never return. That is the greatest victory of all.

Have a stellar and enjoyable last few weeks of the season, Baby Blue!đź’™

As a new BOD member of SOA… and a fan of the corps since I was 15 years old ( I’m 60 in a month), I’ve got some dust in my eyes right now. These kids have worked super hard… line they all do. It’s just so good to be BACK. And I’m going to do everything in my wheelhouse to maximize Atlanta support for these kids and staff…

As the dad of a 2018 alumnus, I’m all choked up seeing them back. They may not make finals but here’s hoping they can at least make the Big, Loud and Live broadcast. Go Baby Blue!!!

I was worried this Colts show might be a bit like Blue Stars 2014 show. I was incorrect.

(That Blue Stars show was one of the weirdest on paper but most compelling shows I've seen)

Blue Stars 2014 is one of my 10 favorite shows ever. It just hit the right spot (in my heart).

  4. It's been a hot minute since my son's DCI year with Spirit (2018's "Knock") but still have this corps in my heart.

After taking 2022 off for very necessary reasons, what will their return look like?

How competitive can they be? Maybe top 18 or 20 when the season is all said and done?

More importantly, will they return and to the RIGHT things to ensure the safety (physical and mental) of everyone involved … MMs, staff, volunteers?

    I’m proceeding with cautious optimism.

The Texas State Marching Band Championships are coming up Monday and Tuesday. In the largest class, 6A, many heavy hitters opted out this year but there’s still some major schools competing - Claudia Taylor Johnson, The Woodlands, Flower Mound, Marcus and Hebron.

    And here are the medalists:

    1. Claudia Taylor Johnson

    2. Hebron

    3. Flower Mound

  6. This was really, really hard. I’ve only really followed DCI closely since 2014, I have a somewhat decent knowledge of 2008-13 from videos, and not much knowledge of 2007 and earlier. I can't believe I'm omitting The Cadets, because there are certainly several shows that I do like, but when I inserted any of them (i.e. 2005, 2011, 2013 and 2015, for example) into this puzzle ... well it broke by its displacement of another corps (so my apologies to fans or alumni of The Cadets ... absolutely no relection on the corps).

In order by placement from 1 through 12 in semis:

    2014 Blue Devils – Felliniesque – 1
2012 Carolina Crown – For the Common Good – 2
    2015 Bluecoats – Kinetic Noise – 3
    2013 Santa Clara Vanguard – Les Miserables – 4
    2016 The Cavaliers – Propaganda – 5
    2010 Phantom Regiment – Into the Light – 6
    2019 Blue Knights – I Remember Everything – 7
2003 Madison Scouts – GOLD, GREEN AND RED: The Music of Benoit Jutras – 8
    2007 Boston Crusaders – A Picasso Suite – 9
    2018 Mandarins – Life Rite After - 10
    2011 Blue Stars – ReBourne – 11
    2009 Troopers – Western Side Story – 12

I’m lukewarm on my picks for 8-11, TBH.

If there is not a requirement that the corps finished in the Top 12 in semis (and thus made finals), then I replace the 2018 Mandarins with 2018 Spirit of Atlanta – Knock! – 13 (for personal and biased reasons).
