It is like pulling teeth to get them to talk about their experiences.  I didn’t even know my father had served in Korea until after he had passed away.  I knew he’d been in (West) Germany but he never talked about Korea.  I can only surmise that he saw a lot.

    God bless your Grandfather.

Ditto here. Dad served (Army Corps of Engineers) in Korea during the war but only talked about when he was in Canada working on part of the Defense Early Warning (DEW line) system. Thank goodness for MASH as pieces started coming out while watching (Kimpo airfield was never that big when I was there).

My father-in-law was in the Army Infantry that were sent in to protect the Marines in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir where the temperatures got as low as 36 degrees below zero. About a year before his passing, we were able to get him talking about it by printing info & pictures from the internet.  The main thing I remember him telling us is that you had to keep your socks & boots dry. The survivors were called the "Frozen Chosen".  Incredible stories.

I guess relating to topic, maybe PR could perform some music from wars of this century? 🤔

Interesting thanks. I was a trombone player who could read music but…. What’s a fingering? 🤔 My first year was a rush job as we reformed and started late. So I still had fingerings marked my second year. Of course the markings were 0, 1, 2 and X (both). 😆

I just figured out valve one/rotor two.  There was no three for me until 2000.

I played French horn in band.  He wasn’t a trombone player.

Speaking of valves & fingerings, we had a HS director of a HBCU style band in our district that one of his tuba students asked about fingering a certain note.  He told them, "don't worry about those valves; those are for the college kids. Just lip it".

Not sure how true, but it made for a great story at our district meeting. 😂

Sidenote @Terri Schehr - Illinois will have their hands full with Moorehead State. We had a former student play there a few years back. Should be a 'barn-burner'.

Edit: the Moorehead train derailed with about 5 minutes left. 😁

A guy next to me drank seven beers in Foxboro in 05.  It was none of my business.  I did do the math on how much it cost to drink seven crappy beers In that place.  He’d ran up quite a tab.

He'd need a second mortgage for the same 7 beers at Lucas Oil... :guinesssmilie:

A few years back, I was sitting beside a intoxicated alumnus of a top 3 "blue" corps & he just wanted to talk to me thru the corps' performances. I was nice, but I had to say, "dude'... 😂

I would think so.  And he who I will not speak name of is likely to be named as a defendant.  I wonder if he is one of the John Does in the current case?

I couldn’t say but as we all know, their stories have been published in the Philadelphia inquirer.  Seems like pretty strong footing but I don’t even play a lawyer on tv.

I'm sure he is one of the "John Does" named in the lawsuit.  In the compliant statement #36, G Hopkins is named as an agent or employee who knew the abuse was about to take place & didn’t do anything to prevent. Not sure what his role was during that time, but I think he was an instructor or maybe assistant director?

No doom and gloom here. Looking forward to another amazing year by Crown.

I'm down with Crown giving us some 'doom & gloom'. They've given some great material over the years. (Inferno, Relentless, Beast, etc) 💜☑️

Given today's date, I'm reminded of this ###### tune that has been played far too little in drum corps.

    no thanks.

I graduated in 1988 and you’ve just reignited that earworm.

I've played this chart in a '70s R&B horn band for some 18 years. 😂

Also no Rose Bowl this year, instead the show will be at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California.

Wow. So it's just Walnut and San Bernardino in SoCal this year.

Sucks we are losing a show, but some shows are better than no shows.

Excited to go back to Mt. Sac!

Last time I was at Mt SAC, they had these old wooden bleachers.  Careful wearing shorts & splinters. 😁

I'll stop complaining about the Stanford show (DCI West). I splurge on the box seats that comes with a BBQ, and I think last year they were $125 or so. Snacks and drinks in the box (nothing amazing, chips and cookies and sodas, but still something), and easy access to the restrooms plus the views from the box with all seats more or less no farther out than the 25yrd.

You had me at "easy access to the restrooms".  Sitting in the Lucas Oil "blast zone", I'm thinking about taking a bedpan or wearing an adult diaper in August.  Or maybe one of those auto johns.   😂
