interesting interview. honestly the business acumen is what we need, and not him getting knee deep in rules etc.

Great, then who is the senior person that knows anything about the activity, or as you put it "rules"?

Sounds like he would make a decent Director of Marketing, not CEO

I do know that Boston has had a policy in place for several years now that even dating between a young staffers and marchers of legal age is not permitted while they are in the Corps . There has been at least one episode of a female 21 year old in the Percussion section that Chris Holland as Corps Director found a young percussion staffer was dating and immediately had both leave the Corps .

It was the caption head, not a young percussion staff member. At least it made room for the current perc head who, by all accounts, is a good guy

I do not have to make it sound like anything. It is a fact. It happened. It took Boston 2 years to dump this person. Now, granted this was before the "hop crap" and the spirit situation. As already said, yes it is difficult to track "bad staffers" but when one organization contacts the other and the truth about why they were let go isn't disclosed. Then yes, they are part of the problem.

Drum guy + member (timpanist) = bad, bad, bad

Motivation? Because there are scumbags out there that have gotten away with a lot and, back in the day, it was swept under the rug like "the old boys network." Saving peoples behinds because they have a name or title! There is a recent case in Florida (my neck of the woods) where a teacher was known for 20 years to be doing things an adult shouldn't be doing and he finally got nailed for it. I replaced a person in NY that was doing the same.

I don't want to see the activity die but lets face it, they are shooting themselves all the time. If BD gets brought up in a case or two, would that then mean DC is done?

...and there are a large number of non "scumbags" who are involved PLUS the thousands of members who benefit from the experience of marching in drum corps. Sounds like the axe you want to grind is aimed at individuals, not the activity as a whole.

After Finals,  that was the word in some of the social media “ subterranean “underground networks . But there has been no official word out of Carolina Crown yet . He is still listed on their website ( as still is is Tony Lymon ) as all the Corps now begin their Auditions , so we must  assume he will be there for Carolina Crown in 2024 .

Crown hasn't had any luck replacing him.

i'm torn. institutional knowledge of what drum corps actually is is incredibly important. look at SCV's hires recently...lack of drum corps knowledge was part of the issues that got them where they are

Trust me, the person that is taking over has no experience in drum corps at all.

Why Mr. Anova, you must realize that it is only considered "poaching" of the staff in question go to BAC.

In fact, some people here actually still refer to Boston as "Crown North", some 8 years after that staff move.

I still haven't recovered from BD "poaching" Jay Murphy from us in 1981.

Didn't he go to Crossmen first?

And was brought there by former Crusader Director Tony Smith?

  8. Absent any relevant posts to the topic, I will put forth a few positions that SHOULD change (in my opinion)......hopefully to generate conversation not Julie Davila or SCV related

    1. Boston Crusaders need a true top 3 brass arranger. Will Michael Klesch follow Tom Hannum to Boston?

    2. Phantom needs a better guard design team

    3. Cadets, if they want to break into the top 4, need a better visual designer

    4. Troopers - Entire guard design and teaching staff, hopefully one that brings talented members.

    5. Cavaliers need to swap out brass staff and visual design. No need for explanation

    6. Blue Knights have obvious needs at the top of the design team.

    7. Crossmen need a better brass staff and new visual designer

    8. Madison? a total reboot with a design team that can create a cohesive and contemporary program.

    9. Academy -  see above.

    10. Genesis -  see above, above.

  9. Answer these question:

    * Are they turning over staff and members yearly?

    * Does the corps have outside sources of revenue than membership fees?

    * Is the membership fee commensurate with number of days on the road and performance opportunities?

I do not believe their is  mechanism to move a corps from World Class to Open Class. Perhaps their needs to be an intermediate class (like WGI) that has corps that share similar on and off field attributes- Music City, Genesis, Cascades, Spartans, Gold, Guardians, Southwind, Battalion.....

While I'm sure it is a minority opinion around here, I remain convinced that the Boston Crusaders will win on finals night.  I'm no fair weather fan.  I have been involved with them more than 40 years.  BAC has survived far worse both on and off the field, and is more than capable of overcoming what amounts to less than a .2 deficit per caption.  To any members reading this, have a tremendous two weeks and enjoy the love you're getting from fans everywhere !

I'm getting 2016 vibes here.... "to dream, the impossible dream..."

How is it that the Cavies place 8th in San Antonio but take high percussion????? Asking for a friend....

I think it has something to do with the fact that last year's percussion arranger pushed out the rest of the design team and got what he wanted..... high drums and nothing else. Wondering if management is feeling like they back the wrong horse now?

Oh they upped it to 18 this year? Because every show is still using 17 minute slots for each world corps.

All corps must report to the DCI Coordinator one hour prior to the start of the competition for any modification on these times! These times supersede all other times and are the only official ones to be used!
