  1. The eating is subjective. We ate very well at the second corps I marched for. I can't see how it could have gotten any better. And housing. Are corps not staying in high school gyms anymore? You keep leaving out things like extra instrumentation, staff, props, etc. These things can directly be tied to rising costs. Again, it's not fuel.
  2. No it doesn't. I left a Friday night corps for a Saturday night corps. Other than wanting to push the limits both physically and musically, one of the main reasons I left is because I wanted to eat better. The first corps I was with couldn't afford to feed us every day, so we had way too many free days (which cost me a ton of money), and towards the end of the season they were basically feeding us pizza every other day. I used to bum meals from my buddies in other corps after shows. Moral of the story is, if you want my loyalty, treat me better.
  3. Still ridiculous. I paid a quarter of that in the 2000's. Diesel fuel is half what is was 10 years ago. Corps are directly to blame for driving the costs up. I think we could do without the extra instruments, props, constant uniform changes...unless the corps can find some way of paying for this without passing the costs on to the members
  4. Don't get your panties in a twist. It's a fact drill is not nearly as difficult as it was 15 years ago.
  5. Everything in drum corps has become homogenized
  6. Well then maybe it's time to get some business minds working in the activity. And that statement is not entirely accurate. The vast majority of college athletic programs lose money.
  7. How so? I don't mean pay cash to the members. Pay for their dues, fees, etc. College athletes are paid the same way.
  8. Don't let them fool you. I have no doubt they'd rather be holding that trophy at the end of the year, as opposed to clapping for someone else's championship.
  9. It's been what, 13 years since a championship? I completely agree on your Madison assessment.
  10. It's quite amazing really. When you think about it, corps should actually be paying members to march for them.
  11. I don't think big government style oversight is needed. Maybe it's time for Madison and Rosemont to open up to female membership. I think back in the day (pre-2008), when drum corps required more brut strength and athleticism, having an all male corps was an advantage. Now, that type of physicality is not required and you are losing out on a lot of talented female musicians.
  12. No one likes seeing their money being p*ssed away.
  13. But this is drum corps. Where sex crimes don't even keep you from being employed. Ooops did I say that out loud?
  14. Isn't this the case already? Also, does DCI not offer digital versions of finals or they still stuck on physical discs? If that's the case they are way behind the times and losing a good bit in revenue.
  15. If you look at it from a business standpoint, the marching members are the "customer" of the corps, since they are the ones paying the majority of the costs for operations. With the way things are going with excessive props, constant uniform changes, more instruments, etc etc, corps are pricing out their customers. You can't blame rising dues on fuel...that has come down significantly over the last 10 years and looks to remain steady for many years to come.
  16. What's your prediction on what the future holds? Here's my best guess: -any, I mean any instrument will be allowed. Possible pit orchestras -drum corps will integrate Broadway type elements where there are actual plays being performed on the field. Corps membership will rise to 225 to accommodate the extra "actors." The marching instrumentation will basically become the background music. -lasers, drones, jetpacks, etc -corps dues will rise to 12k -a seperate tour will be formed outside of DCI that will bring back kickbutt drill and music. Will last one season and fold.
  17. Amazing how people proactively seek ways to get offended nowadays
  18. You dont have to standing on private property to be a nuisance to people in their homes. I sure as hell don't want to hear a bunch of kids banging drums and blowing horns right in my street, especially while I'm having my afternoon cocktail. And what exactly is so "cringeworthy" about knowing your place? It's called respect and self awareness.
  19. I didn't speak up because I was a member. It's called knowing your place.
