That personal attack honestly took longer to emerge than I thought it would.

I can sit in my presence here knowing that I've been a form of support and a model for reporting and responding to abuse in this industry. Attack away. I've already lost pretty much everything else in this space.

Personal attack?  I have nothing else to say to you. Please find another way to respond.  I do not buy into that.

We need a drinking game on this thread. Every time someone spells Mr. Aungst first name as "Thom" you have to take a drink. It is "Tom" Aungst. Not to be confused with "Thom" Hannum. Although Tom A is a branch of the Thom H percussion tree, he did hot inherit the "h". Now, carry on.

When I read some posts on here lately, I suspect some people have already started drinking.

I live in North Jersey about 5-10 minutes from Garfield and Hackensack.

I know a lot of Cadets Alumni.

I can tell you that, in this area at least, there were a lot of people who weren't all that excited about her taking over the Cadets.

My appendix burst on a business trip and I ended up staying in a hospital in Hackensack, NJ for 8 days back in 2005.

I asked some people around me if they knew who The Cadets were.   The general reaction was "Who?”

They then reduced my dosage of percocet...

And it kind of annoys me when I get a ton of people trying to "fix" my music tastes. Just because you show me some older stuff won't instantly make me change everything about what I love.

They are not trying to "fix" your tastes.  They are trying to include you on what they like.

Many things on forums like this will annoy you.    Unfortunately, it can't always be about everything that we, alone, like.

I remember much of the chatter about this brilliant show being more about the 'message' they were bringing and if the layering they added poured it on too thick.  There was also the triggered chatter about the G7 proposal.   Other chatter was "it's just performed too dirty."   With sometimes recognizing that it was an incredibly hard show and ambitiously pulling those kids a bit too far beyond their performance capabilities.

But they did not back down or hose it.

It wasn't until later some of the praise I was lavishing on it started to get echoed more.  The drill is one of the better examples of 'using the drill to tell the story' I can think of.  As dirty as it was, in retrospect, this seem the begining of the BAC guard aesthetic and swagger that has been returned to for their Zingali's.  I know the staff has changed but there's a spirit here that echoes what we've seen from the guard the past two competitive years.  I'll never forget when they led them onto the field during retreat doing that super creepy herd of uncontrolled animals movement gait thing.  The expression on some of the corps next to them as they came on was classic shock and awe.

The music arranging was no easy feat too and did many ambitious and effective things.  The super aggressive opening, the SOLO that opens the ballad, she nailed the emotion shift all year, the long sustains with subtle melody rippling underneath it in the ballad, the pathos of the ballad hit when they raise the human pyramid windmill.  Playing Conquest in a minor key and making it eerie and creepy.  It was Angry Boston and it was good.

I loved this show from the moment I saw it live in Ft. Wayne.

I agree about a portion of the messaging.  The G7 formation could have stood alone without that small narration part about "being equal" or the baby powder at the end.  That being said, there are parts of the show that are "wow" no matter how dirty the execution was.  It's full of constant risk and Boston stuck to its guns during the season and it helped me to be a bigger Crusaders fan.  Few corps would ever take this kind of risk nowadays.

It's crazy when threads pop up that talk about underrated shows etc...................BD 2011 has came up quite often over the last several years as a show that gets a lot of love.

It's just funny cause those of us who was here on DCP back in 2011, that show was seriously bashed, and hated on.

I remember after the season opening shows in Texas, some people had that show finishing as low as seventh (LMAO)......................and the nuclear explosion that rocked DCP when they took first in Atlanta that year after running past the Cavaliers who undefeated to that point if memory serves me correct.

I don't remember it being bashed over and above the usual.  I love that show!

If " outside the top 8 " is the criteria, Boston's 2014 production " ( 10th place ) " Animal Farm " might fit the bill.  Perhaps not given the credit due by some for its sheer edginess, verve, boldness.   u1L2maO.jpeg

The show was discussed quite a bit.  I think it might be more “underscored” than "underrated."  I applaud Boston for the risk they took bringing it to the field.  A tremendously difficult show.

What are some really good DCI shows that you don't think get talked about enough in the fandom?

    - Pardon my caps lock but THE BEAT MY HEART SKIPPED. This is one of the few DCI shows on Spotify so obviously this is in heavy rotation for me. It's practically a meme now with me saying that House Is Not A Home is my theme song. For all the conversations about BD, this is the one show I almost never hear anyone talk about.

    - Jagged Line. I don't know why but a lot of people seem to dislike this show. Psychopomp is my quintessential "yeah I dance to DCI" song. I honestly think the prop and costume combo is really cool and I like the homage to A Clockwork Orange.

    - The Heart. I heard some people trash-talking it on a podcast so out of morbid curiosity I had to go watch it to see how bad it really was. I actually really enjoyed it! Really unique and creative imagery

    - Juliet. Other than Spartacus and Harmonic Journey, this is the only 2000s PR show that really stands out to me (i'm so sorry phans😢). Love the combination of loud, ceremonial music and actors (one of my favorite things to see in DCI)

    - Wicked Games. Horror + DCI = one happy Orwellian Wiress. It's beautiful how Boston tied in their history to the show theme and wove in a deep message that many need to hear. I'll be the first to admit- as a goth, my eyes got watery seeing the pentagram for the first time. Extremely courageous of the BAC design staff.

    - Session 44. From the Bloo fans I've seen and interacted with, a lot of people seem to give this the honor of being one of their most forgettable shows. I quite like the props and costumes, and the "Bless The Child" solo gets stuck in my head often.

    - Re:Rite of Spring. Again, BD is in the general conversation of the fandom so much but I never hear about this. I absolutely give them credit for taking a single piece of classical music and translating it into different styles like rock and jazz, while still sounding like drum corps.

These have never been underrated.  They were discussed quite often on here.

Perhaps you should look into past threads on DCP.
