  1. And you can tell. It's as if the judging panel on Dancing with the Stars has taken over.
  2. I wish DCI would not schedule shows in San Bernardino. Move it to Orange County where there are a myriad of safer municipal stadiums.
  3. In the beginning, the California corps that travelled east received a lot of love because they were a novelty. As the activity changed from regional to national the love disappeared a bit as the east lost to the west on a semi-regular basis.
  4. Drum corps has survived depressions, recessions, wars, political upheaval, pandemics, etc. etc. etc. It will be around in 20 years but it may not be called Drum Corps International.
  5. I trust your research, I just don't remember that there were that many judges (10?) in the first half of the first decade of DCI, especially the first year.
  6. Drum Corps has gentrified and it’s sad. Instead of being an activity any kid off the street can do it’s now something akin to grad school for music and dance majors. Good for the kids that can afford it but sad for those from low income and “at risk” kids that cant. A spending cap for costs that can be controlled should have been implemented decades ago for the greater good of the activity.
  7. Someone should pitch the show concept to Bravo; "The Real Band Moms of Chino Hills". Follow them through marching season; drama, power struggles, betrayal, inner-rivalries, favortisim, and everything else that makes for good entertainment. I'd watch that one.
  8. I forgot about the uniform Moms. I take it back; THEY had the hardest job! They did it out of love but in reality they should have received bio-hazard pay. For fun, we would do Rorschach tests on the mold pattern on the inside of our cadets. 🤢
  9. Depends if the driver just drivers, or is also responsible for loading/unloading on a truck without an electric lift gate. But I agree 100% on what it means to be a volunteer.
  10. Stan Kenton (and jazz in general) Hector Berlioz Tower of Power 🥲
  11. 1971 VFW Nationals - Blue Rock, particularly their drum line. They were fantastic! And Blue Devils 1976 because it was a turning point for the activity.
  12. “Sigh Guy’s” (Steve Beard) solo was in 1974 and he nailed it at Finals. Amazing tone from a G-bugle.
  13. What popular bands can you see live for $55 - $75? Based on the cost of other entertainment options in 2024, I believe ticket prices are in line.
  14. It was not uncommon for corps to do that as far back as the 1970's, and it usually meant they were not long for this world. But before, or shortly after that, there is the step of someone taking a 2nd mortgage on their home and then losing that too. It happens.
  15. I vaguely remember that, but just looked and didn't realize it was .8 in penalties. Ouch! ####, drummers. Always causing chit.
  16. 1968 was even before my time. I miss the Kilts but not competing against them.
  17. In terms of Madison, is there no love for MacArthur Park? I don't that I can take it.
  18. Wow! What a concept. Picking music designed to entertain the audience. I love them and wish I lived closer.
  19. Has something changed in judging? Are you saying in modern Drum Corps that previous years placement/scoring can be tied to the current year placement/scoring?
  20. They're not a "marching band", they're a Drum & Bugle Corps! Not an admin, but you may need to sit in the penalty box for a while.
  21. Yes, and it has been occurring since before the creation of DCI. Ego uber alles.
