  1. Dude sure has moved around A LOT!
  2. I had the same experience. They charged me $150 on June 22nd for the whole year. I contacted them on June 27th and they tried to offer me 30% off. Stick with it, and don't let them stick it to us. They agreed to refund $120.01 to my credit card, and "only" charge me $29.99 for the five days of NO service. I hope that you at least got that concession from them Mello Dude. I know that DCI has other issues, but I think that they should get involved and discourage this treatment of their loyal fans.
  3. Legendary jazz composer/arranger Sammy Nestico turned 90 yesterday. Read all about him and the celebration HERE Happy Birthday Sammy!
  4. Yeah, and Robin Hood's heart was in the right place too, huh?
  5. Nice review, guy. I appreciate your taking the time to share. Musically, I believe that the ballad is the emotional climax of the show, and it might prove to be one of the most beautiful moments of this drum corps season. As far as the dialogue, it's straight out of the source material; Phillip Glass's "Einstein on the Beach". Enjoy the rest of the season!
  6. I would so love to do this....if I hadn't aged out in 1978.
  7. Preying on desperate kids who just want to march for your personal gain? Shame on you.
  8. You're right. Let me right this wrong. Les préludes has been played by numerous corps, including The Cavaliers and Southwind. In 1974 it was performed by both Phantom Regiment and Velvet Knights. Phantom Regiment has played John Corigliano TWICE over the past few years. Corps too numerous to mention have played Beethoven. Thank you for paying attention.
  9. The San Diego Symphony has a very special program coming up in early April. Renowned percussionist DAME EVELYN GLENNIE will be performing John Corigliano's percussion concerto, CONJURER, with the San Diego Symphony. The weekend will start out on Thursday, April 7th at 7:30 pm with a SYMPHONY EXPOSED program focusing entirely on the Corigliano piece. Join host Nuvi Mehta, the composer and performer as they analyze the piece in-depth and perform it as well. Then on Friday, April 8th at 7:30 pm and Sunday, April 10th at 2:00 pm the Corigliano piece will be performed in the Symphony's JACOBS MASTERWORKS CONCERT along with Beethoven's 2nd Symphony and Franz Liszt's Les préludes. This will be a very exciting you DON'T want to miss!

  11. Working at the San Diego Symphony, I take time away from my desk to listen to the orchestra whenever I can. This morning, while watching a rehearsal for Richard Strauss' Ein Heldenleben (A Hero's Life) I sat upright in my chair, hearing the opening fanfare from Phantom Regiment's 2008 Spartacus pre-show. Can't wait to hear it three more times this weekend!
  12. I sure hope that there's some SOUTHERN California in that tour....

  16. In light of tonight's rainout in Minnesota, will they revert to last year's placements in San Antonio for next Saturday/Sunday?
  17. BTW, the initials of the person who has that parking spot are "JK" (I'm not making this up).
  18. I work in downtown San Diego, and have seen this car parked in the garage I park in near my office. Does anyone recognize THIS VEHICLE?
  19. What is NOT typical, is that they already ran our credit cards through. Usually that hasn't been done until the items shipped....
  20. From the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame: ROBERT JACOBS Robert "Bobby" Jacobs played in the percussion section of the Reilly Raiders prior to taking over as Captain of the Color Guard from 1946 to 1953. Bob assisted in the formation of the National Judges Association in 1960 with Windy Wildemore and others and Judged with the organization until his passing in 1980. Bob suffered a heart attack while judging on the field at a DCI show in West Chester, Pa and unfortunately died that night I was there that night...Madison had taken the field and was just about to start their show when the judge collapsed in front of the corps. The ambulance that was standing by came right over. After a few minutes, the Scouts left the field, and the announcer said that the show would resume in something like 15 or 30 minutes. I remember that the little kid behind me let out a loud BOO, and his dad slapped him in the head. We found out later that night that Mr. Jacobs had passed away.
