  1. C'mon! - I've got an early tee time tomorrow!!
  2. During football games at the Rose Bowl, there is a shuttle from the Parsons office complex parking lot to the RB. Does anyone know if this will be running this week?
  3. Not to worry. Pacific Crest sent out the following post this afternoon: The San Diego Show is Still On! Support these amazing corps as they enter California for their last contest before Championships! You may have heard that the Mt. Carmel High School stadium parking lot is under construction. Don't worry. Spectator parking will still be available because the corps will be parking at the nearby middle school down the street. Get your tickets at the gate. Prices range from $20 to $30.
  4. No, I think the DM for the 1979 Florida Vanguards (Wave) was a girl named Silvia
  5. Tickets? - CHECK! Tee Times? - CHECK! Vacation Days? - CHECK! Driving Everyone at Work Crazy Playing My APD's? - CHECKMATE!!
  6. Movin' On Up. Welcome to the 90's!!
  7. I don't know how it happened. When I was in my marching days SCV certainly wasn't my favorite corps. Now - when the scores come out each night....the first thing I look for is how SCV did. GO VANGUARD!
  8. It clearly is the "Athlete of God" quote by Martha Graham. Here it is again, this time located at ThisIBelieve.org (Hmmm This I Believe?)
  9. From Hawthorne, New Jersey: THE MUCHACHOS!!!
  10. Keep up the good fight Pioneer! We're looking forward to seeing you in San Diego!
  11. Has anybody heard of any DC golf tournaments going on around the LA area the week of finals? There are certainly plenty of good courses around, and the weather should be great...
  12. I guess my biggest problem is that this year we are paying a lot more, for what seems like a lot less. Last season I felt like I could feel the progress and follow the shows leading up to the Championships, so that when I got to see the corps live, I knew what to look forward to and where to look for it. Last year, we had archived performances for the following shows prior to the Championships: 06/18 - Lisle 07/08 - Indy 07/15 - Battle Creek 07/29 - Atlanta 08/04 & 08/05 - Allentown This year, all we have is: 06/16 - Annapolis 07/21 - San Antonio Like many other people in the music industry, I work on Saturday nights. Therefore, the "live only" feeds are of no use to me....and I doubt I would plunk down the $90 in the future.
  13. Next weekend, July 13th & 14th, the San Diego Symphony's Summer Pops Series features ¡VIVA ESPAÑA! , which will include the following pieces: Emmanuel Chabrier España Rhapsody Manuel de Falla “Finale” from The Three-Cornered Hat Angel Cabral, E. Dizeo Amor de Mis Amores Manuel de Falla Spanish Dance No. 1 from La vida breve Manuel de Falla “Miller’s Dance” from The Three-Cornered Hat Joaquin Rodrigo Concierto andaluz
  14. Esperanza announced that they would not be fielding a corps in early March. In that announcement, they stated "Esperanza will still host the 8th Annual “Esperanza Experience” on Sunday, August 5th. Additionally, the organization will hold an educational workshop for brass, percussion and color guard members in conjunction with the Drum Corps International tour event." DCI began selling tickets to this show on June 7th. I'm sure that they got comfortable with the situation before the on-sale date.
  15. A few thoughts: 1) This date wasn't a surprise. These corps have all had them on their calendar for months, and planned their rehearsals accordingly; 2) The fans who purchased tickets paid 100%. Would they receive a discount for less than a full show?; 3) I understand that corps will make changes and improve as the season goes on. When we refer to a "complete" show, the corps should hit the minimum time limit. 4) I understand that judges will evaluate what is being presented. If that is the logic, if a corps presented the most incredible three minutes ever and left the field, would they be the winners? I guess I would think that if a corps' judging sheets had them on pace to score an "80.00", while presenting only 75% of the minimum time limit, their score should be 80.00 times .75, which would equal a "60.00".
  16. I hate to say this, but when I marched in the Miami Silhouettes in 1976, they beat us in a show in North Carolina.....and NO, they didn't march any keyboard or guitars in '76!!!
  17. Heads up to those who are interested. Jordin Sparks brings down the house as she ends tonight's show singing: You'll Never Walk Alone
  18. Check out the VIDEO just added to the Symphony's website.
  19. ...BTW, Cynthia Yeh Strauss, who is currently the Principal Percussionist for the San Diego Symphony, will be taking over that position next year for the Chicago Symphony. See her here while you can!
  20. Heads up to folks in San Diego. The San Diego Symphony will be performing Scheherazade as the featured work in its Jacobs Masterworks performances on March 9th, 10th and 11th. For those of you who haven't been to Copley Symphony Hall in downtown San Diego, you're missing a great experience. It will be awfully tempting, but I will resist the urge to do the Vanguard yell! For ticket information (or just to hear a great audio clip) go to www.sandiegosymphony.org
  21. I'm sorry children.....should I have connected the dots for you? Yes, a hurricane and volcano eruption are different natural phenomenons, but it was a well known fact that many from New Orleans lost their homes (live, families, etc). Regardless, Eff the Irish and their band.
  22. Two things: 1) Gotta dish the ND Band for playing "Where Ya Gonna Go When the Volcano Blows" in New Orleans. Hello??? Anybody remember Katrina? Talk about insensitivity. 2) When I was in college in the 1970's I wanted to march in the Florida Gators marching band under Frank B. Wickes. I was surprised to hear his name last night....30 years later.....as director of the LSU Tiger band.
