  1. By play Malaguena, I mean plug your ears and cover your eyes to how much the activity has changed since that was a recipe for success.
  2. 100% the vibe of the "playing Malaguena will fix everything" contingent of Madison alumni.
  3. There is the possibility that he needs to be with the right group of people to produce results. I don't think Troopers(who have proven capable of making finals without him) would have brought him on board if he didn't bring something to the table. I'll wait until we see the show.
  4. Yes. I have vague memories of that guard spinning their hands off.
  5. Between the music and theme, it feels like a mix of Mandarins 23, Colts 22, and Madison 2016.
  6. My favorite is zooming in so close to the guard soloist's face that you can't actually see their solo 🤦‍♂️
  7. Camera crews with a working knowledge of the marching arts. IE: not zooming in on the rack player during a tacet while the horn line or guard is doing something major.
  8. It's like the Douglas Adams quote on technology: 1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works. 2. Anything that’s invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it. 3. Anything invented after you’re thirty-five is against the natural order of things.
  9. You're right, it is absurd. And that person hasn't earned the time you would spend researching it for them. Short of surveying a substantial portion of auditionees across multiple organizations, I can't think of a way to gather that kind of information.
  10. The burden of proof is on the accuser. Tell them to provide non-anecdotal evidence.
  11. How difficult would it be to set up a marching arts endowment? Could member organizations pay into it for a period of time? Could the 3 main governing bodies (DCI, WGI, BOA) all benefit from it?
  12. If they were able to retain the brain trust they've had the last few years, they should be able to attract enough performing talent and make finals.
  13. Aaron Witek leaves Cadets for Crossmen, where he marched. Great dude and educator, this is a win for them.
  14. Guard staffs tend to move as a herd. Wouldn't be surprised if more of that crew moved on as well.
  15. That's my understanding. After the band went too far, he was brought aboard to right the ship.
  16. I got to spend time on the road with him a few years ago. He doesn't treat members the same way as a security guard on a power trip.
  17. Building on The Doctoress' accurate assessment, I recommend watching Onyx 2010-2014, 2017, and 2019. They are on their own planet and you can't look away.
  18. Interesting. Onyx is brilliant, and a VERY particular flavor of color guard. Will be fun to see how next year's program develops.
  19. Can't disagree. But seeing that staff list definitely made me very interested in seeing what would end up on the field.
  20. I think the next best thing was when SCV announced that they had hired Michael Gaines, Andy Toth, Adam Sage, JD Shaw, and Paul and Sandi Rennick.
  21. He was at Madison on visual staff when I marched there, while Pete Weber was doing drill. Really positive presence and good information. Would love to see him find the right fit as a designer.
  22. I clicked on the wrong page - Our Team is not the same as Meet the Staff 🤦‍♂️
  23. My understanding is this was his first year back. I have a feeling they want to hang on to him.
