  1. THE GOOD: This show had a great line-up that would have filled any stadium in the Mid-West. Easily, over half the audience were high school bandos, wearing their school band t-shirts. They were very respectful of the performances. I thoroughly enjoyed the corps and got to surprise Jack 1,100 miles away from home! THE BAD: All tickets were general admission. IIRC, a month before the event you could buy tickets on-line for $20. On the day of the show the local ABC affiliate ran a story, an hour before the start time, saying tickets were $25. At the box office tickets were $32.50 (cash) and $33.50 (card). I'm not complaining about the final price as it was a good line-up but this was a blatant bait and switch. When I got in, I searched high and low for programs for the 3 drum corps virgins I took with me - there were none - that is, I didn't see a single person with a program. The event staff hadn't a clue as to if any were actually printed. Then there was the national anthem with no American Flag in sight - not flying on any of the three staves nor on the screen. The audience was at a loss to find one. Lastly, the usual complaint of outrageous concession pricing ($4 for popcorn!) - soda & hot dogs & burgers priced the same as at the Oil Can.
  2. Colts- Uniform isn't any better in person (still prefer the red). I feel like the show might be too easy musically for them, so that might be hurting them. Trumpet soloists couldn't hit the high notes again tonight. Somebody by me said their plumes look like skunks. Casey (lead soloist & DM)has been fighting a severe case of the flu. Wouldn't shake may hand in Lafayette - "Seriously, Alan, you don't want this" he said.
  3. Wow! You're right. The Vis. Proficiency judge must have been out to lunch tonight then.
  4. maybe the Colts will start getting some love!!! DCP rankings now has them 12th.
  5. Colt Cadets 66.65 Cascades 61 Academy 70 Colts 73.75 Spirit 75.1 Madison 79.75 SCV 82.55 Scores are not official - came from my non-marching son at the show. SORRY FOR THE REPEATITION
  6. Thanks for the Colts review. I think you are spot on with one exception - the uniforms. Ugh, all I see is haltertops/sportsbras/vests - maybe that's just me?!
  7. Yes, some might consider me a dino - I'M really miss retreat. But, I LOVE innovation - electronics done well adds to my experience. However, I hate that I have to be "informed" in order to "get" a particular corps' show. Case in point - Vaguard vs Blue stars shows... my grandma could watch both and walk away thinking one of those bands was really fun, the other was ...
  8. Yep, I remember the Railmen. Had one of their rail hats for a while - never quite fit well nor look good! But, had a soft for them BITD.
  9. Is this show being streamed yet? I can't seem to find it on the web page. I did opt for the $69 package - do I not get it live?
  10. Colts feed between 180 and 200, depending on the point in the season. Oh, and when the Colt Cadets are at the same show 300+! Now that's quite the line, and a lot of PB & J!
  11. This is a little off-topic as the remarks are with respect to the Colts. My son has just graduated from high school and is marching his second season with the Colts (4th with the Colts family). While at high school he worked a part-time, minimum wage job. He has paid all his tour and camp fees himself for both years. Admittedly, he lives only 70 miles from Dubuque so there are no humungous travel expenses. Although $3K+ is a fare chunk of change it is do-able if the average kid is prepared to work for it. Having said that I'm not sure how a college student is able to afford to march - would like to know how they do it without parent support. Also, having volunteered as a cook for several seasons now, I have to say that the members, staff, and volunteers eat very well at the Colts - four solid, hot meals a day (and of course PB & J!) - no such thing as snacks!
  12. Gas prices have gone from $2.99 to $3.69 here in Dubuque. That's a 23% increase.
  13. Off topics here... What does /> mean? Thanks...
  14. Colts have two audition camps - this weekend (Nov 23 &25) and Dec 21 -23.
  15. more inside info please... I've been a staunch SCV fan since I first saw them in 83. In 92 I was living in Sacramento and got to see them at the BD/SCV preview and two early west coast shows (Sacramento & BD home show). When I saw the guard in those exquisite, simple, long black dresses, dancing with the menorahs I remember thinking "Yeah, there's something special happening here." I then didn't see them until finals in Madison and was shocked at what the show had become. It was my biggest WTF moment since Vanguard lost to Madison in 88. Slightly off topic - my all time favorite show (of any corps) was Martha. Would love to hear any inside thoughts on that season.
  16. Jon is not an age out - I believe he has at least 3 years left...
  17. I'll be there. I'll be pulling into Muncie sometime Weds afternoon... P.S. pm me with who you are?
  18. Not one post about the Colts tonight - one sad dad here....
