  1. Definitely 85. I came across from England and was touring with the corps just to observe. The corps knew they were not going to make finals and so decided to put out the synth. Without the penalty BAC would have moved up one place to 19th pushing Geneseo down to 20th. The drum major jumped down from the podium and pulled the starter cord of the generator (concealed under the podium) then proceeded to play the key board. The majority of the corps were totally hyped - remember this was a time when the BAC were still truly BA and not afraid to break the rules! Semi-finals was the only time they did this.
  2. Not sure if it's the same now but in the 80 & 90's Hawkeye Marching Band's (U of Iowa) "Hell Week" overlapped with finals week (but finals week was later in August then). I think corps kids got a pass back then as I know of several folks who marched both corps and HMB. Talk to the marching band directors - you may get a pass too! Good luck.
  3. Took the time to listen to this today - NIIIIIIIIIIIICE
  4. We live in Cedar Rapids which is about a 75-90 minute drive from Dubuque. A 60 minute drive was considered "in town." Members from Chicago, St Louis, Kansas City were considered eligible for full time housing.
  5. Also last year part time housing was $200 and full time housing was $400. My son was in part time housing and we figured our total expenditure was about $1,200 to $1,300 (this includes gas to and from Sunday camps and to and from part time housing).
  6. Not sure about corps but the first drill I wrote for a band was on an LC3 using Advantage (just threw away the plug-in security key a month ago).
  7. Totally on board with your selections - for me though definitely Slava and Festive Overture
  8. Awesome, although I'll be at the olympics and won't get to see you. and respectively.
  9. Pink field with green lines - now that would be preppy. Talking of pink, BITD of Hayden Fry being coach at U of Iowa he had the visitors locker room painted pink. pink showers, toilets, floor, walls, and lockers
  10. I did not know Rich personally but enjoyed his posts immensely. Thoughts and prayers to family and friends. RIP.
  11. there were a few UK corps using them in the late 70s/early 80s. one I know for sure was the all girl corps Mayflower that used yellow. sorry I have no pictures.
  12. IMHO I think part of the answer is that we have such high expectations of corps.
  13. 1997 Madison Scouts. (The pirate show) Saw them a lot that year but just couldn't buy into it. The guard almost exclusively were on side 1 and were somewhat disconnected from the rest of the corps.
  14. 1984 - All night long. Or as the folks around me would sing "All season long, banana, banana, all season long."
  15. you hit the nail on the head... as an ex-teacher I can vouch for this... so very true for middle school.
  16. Definitely peace sign - the symbol inside the circle is a combination of the semaphore signs for CND - Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Better yet both. Get the guard to tie-dye their own flags (similar yet different designs) and they get to buy into the whole concept.
  17. Yep, that's him. My claims to fame with him were we became good buddies that year and despite his feeble attempts I drank him under the table several times!
  18. Agree with many of the afore mentioned how about Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street?
  19. Finals week in Miami (83) - Dave Tippet's famous chili. Couldn't tell if I was sweating from the heat or the chili.
