DCI Central Indiana 2023
DudleytheWest replied to karuna's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
It's a great show. I really love Crown, Regiment, Cavies and Blue Stars. It's going to be really interesting to see how things pan out between Blue Stars, Regiment and Cavies this year. I am just in love with the Blue Stars show most (between the 3). It's really fantastic and has so much potential. -

I love this show. This will be one of my favorite shows this year. They have another amazing product. I can't wait to see how far they take this show. -

They have a very well designed and very complex show. Just like last year, it's a slowish start for them. They will be fine. -

I didn't say you were stupid, I said you weren't there live (there's a big difference between being there and streaming) and you aren't qualified to judge. Very few of us are. -

Well, perhaps if you were in the stadium, down on the field, and qualified to judge, rather than outside the stadium, hundreds of miles away, listening to streamed audio, and unqualified to judge, it wouldn't be such a huge WTF for you. -

2023 Scores Question
DudleytheWest replied to IllianaLancerContra's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
They tied in semi finals too. Yes, I know the odds are low. That's why they score out to 0.05. To prevent ties. But, if it happened at 1st place there is a tie breaker. -

But that's exactly the point - your leaders and mentors are good at their jobs and know what they are doing, and because of that you have succeeded. You had the support necessary to succeed. I've had both leaders/mentors like you who have helped me succeed, and bad leaders/mentors who were a determent to my success. Every where I have worked from when I was 16 at McDonalds to today - sometimes someone isn't a good fit or they are incapable of doing their job/being successful and they are let go. I've never, in my life, seen someone get 7 years worth of chances and still remain. -

Well said. Yes, this isn't about the kids at all or hating the Madison Scouts. If this was happening to Regiment (they were heading where Madison is and turned the ship around), Cadets (another corps who is turning the ship around), Crown, Bluecoats I would be angry, because I'm passionate. I am devastated by what's happening with Vanguard because they've always been my favorite corps. The Scouts are one of my favorite corps. I loved them from the first time I saw them in '84 (good grief the final minute of that show was utterly amazing). I want them to succeed. I want them to beat the corps I marched in again. We were rivals and it was so fun. Now..... -
2023 Scores Question

Write an wrong. A tie for any place other than 1st on finals night is allowed. If two corps tied for first finals night there is that silly tiebreaker. -

Ok, so next time that happens don't do better the next time, or the time after that, or the time after that, and see what happens. You won't get as many chances as Chris. Guaranteed. -

They are not. When you threaten legal action to forcibly shut down your alumni's Facebook page, that doesn't exactly breed good will. When delete any critical comments from any social media outlet and block people who are critical of you, that doesn't breed good will. Keep spouting your line. It's not up to any of us to find a solution. It's up to the Board of Directors. God I will be jumping for joy if Blue Devils B beats them at quaterfinals, because maybe people will wake up. -

It's not that difficult. It happens all the time in our society - sports, arts, work, etc... If a team is failing at their duties, you get rid of them and start afresh. And you rise and repeat until you find the right fit. If you didn't alienate your alumni, your cash flow would improve, perhaps allowing you to go out and acquire staff and directors from other corps. JW, for example, brought Santa Clara from a 7th place corps to a champion. The Mandarins snapped him up and are now not only competitive but put out great modern and entertaining corps. Mason turned Star from nothing to a champion, and was rebuilding Madison into a competitive unit. 2015 was because of him. He was on the right track. He knew what he was doing. He's not some clueless clown floundering in his job. -

Thank you. Yes, exactly. In my 30+ year career, I have never known one person who failed that wasn't let go. The BOD is full of Chris's friends and there's people like C Holland who excuse-make as to why they should stay. It's only hurting the corps.
