  1. What's worse, ending up in 11th or being the topic of a discussion and not being mentioned once in the last two pages of this now three page thread?
  2. ... and every mountain and hill made low. But a more appropriate wish for drum corps would be the next lyrics ... to make "the crooked straight".
  3. The other thing I recall about when Cadets did the Macy's parade was that their drumline opened the broadcast from in front of the store to kickoff the parade. They then had to hightail it back to join the rest of the corps to march the parade.
  4. You could also look at it from the perspective of, why have BDB, SCV Cadets and Spartans (and now Gold too) not been required to move up to Worlds? Where is the line in the sand for scoring that calls for a corps to be in one class or the other?
  5. I might also suggest simply going to their website where it clearly states "... while overall planned expenses for the 2023 season were managed within expectations, the organization fell short of its fundraising goals for the year."
  6. Actually, Chris' last post was on 10/17 replying to Jeff with a general "More will be forthcoming. " There was no timeline given and the only person to mention something coming out within a week was a different poster. Please check chat history. I'd also like more information about the Cadets situation by now, but will give them a bit more time before cranking up the DCP crowd.
  7. So, I looked back and there was never anything from the Cadets promising an update. TheOneWhomKnows simply mentioned on 10/24 "was told the board is coming out with an update tomorrow..." So, another piece of hearsay for people to get their panties in a bind over.
  8. Let's not forget, the Sackler family didn't get hit too bad in the settlement, so they got lots of opiod money left to donate to needy corps.
  9. Sorry, I misread the title of this thread. It specifically states it's a discussion on "sustainability and revenue" and not a discussion about "ethical sustainability and revenue generation". My bad.
  10. Incorrect, it was not not due to the "political views" of the donor but due to the discriminatory moral and ethical actions of the donor company's owner. Pumping money to organizations that discriminate is not a political view, it's a moral disgrace.
  11. One thing to consider in the props and outfits discussion is how much flack Cadets got for theirs this past year. I'd bet they'd have scored a point higher if their props and outfits were flashy and expensive like that many other corps (but also not meaning to give them a free ride on some of the choices). So even the ability to afford these items, and at the level to add to and not detract from GE scores, is something corps need to consider when adding up the projected costs, risks and distractions of the coming season.
  12. Am I the only one who noticed it? On the FloMarching recording of the Cadets at CrownBEAT, there’s a Garfield “G” in the drill from 15:00 to 15:04 (high cam) in the bottom left corner of your screen. It’s the capital G with an arrow pointed up in place of the bar across. COOL!!
  13. Does anyone know if the Cadets will be marching in the Bristol, RI Fourth of July parade tomorrow?
  14. Brought to you by Popeye's chicken sandwich, the Pantom Regiment!!
  15. I can see that as an argument for not having props. But if you're going to do it, do it right. A non-member crew can allow the members to focus on the show, help avoid injuries (both by members only moving the props in the show and having people more familiar with the props maintain them), you have extra hands to help in other areas, etc. I'm fine without props, but if you decide to take on the extravagance of props, you should do it right and safely.
  16. Is there any reason Crown's prop crew cannot consist of people from outside the actual member base?
  17. I remember back in the C2 days there was a lot of talk about how most DCA corps only fill out their ranks after DCI ends. Is that still the case? If so, won't that be a speedbump that will need to be dealt with?
  18. Less than 20 donations until we find out the Cadets' 2024 show title.
  19. Good question too is if this differs for World vs Open class corps? Or is it a money source that Open Class corps (often with larger local memberships) have forgotten about? Or don't have the resources to arrange/manage? Or is the market dried up with malls and other sources of this funding changing their operating models? This is an area I could see DCI providing more support around - especially in helping rebuild the "local memberships" in all corps.
  20. The reality of it all is that NO donation comes free of a cost to the recipient – there are always “strings attached”. Even the hundreds of dollars I give to three different drum corps comes with my “strings” that they use my money wisely, treat their people well, act respectfully/professionally, etc. Chances are that any corporate or philanthropic donation will come with at least the “strings” that they can use the name of the recipient or recipient organization when patting themselves on the back for all the good they do in this world. As such, it attaches the recipient or recipient organization to the corporation or philanthropic organization that gave the money – a “soft”, assumed acceptance of that corporation’s/organization’s positions on those important things in life. And there’s big difference between the concept of accepting “free” funds from a group your morals don’t align with and being paid for work performed in a country with a bad human rights record. In the first case you’re helping hide the ills of the source of the finds while there are times when the second scenario would result in being paid by a bad regime to support those that the regime is harming. Thank you scheherazadesghost for focusing this on aligning a recipient's fundraising efforts to their “clear, intentional mission, vision and values”.
  21. There was a rumor, I think it was around 2001, that The Cadets were going to do three years of all Russian composers.
  22. Moderators, while the comments on the last few pages deserve a place to be discussed, they do not belong in a Cadets 2022 Show thread. I'm asking that you do what I've seen you proactively do with other threads and clean up this thread to remove off-topic discussions. Thank you.
  23. Was that Crossmen I just saw? WOW!!! Full show marched with what looked like most guard work in place and handled well. Show is an interesting mix of styles with parts feeling like BK, parts like BD, parts like Bluecoats, but always still Crossmen. Seemed a very substantial framework to give them lots of time to add even more emotion and layering. Good luck Bones!!
