  1. SCV has incredible moments and I believe their guard is utilized really cleverly in the overall design, especially since they don't have props - staging and programming is super exposed and the show has depth. It's also probably why they chose such vivid costume colors for contrast. Not spinning doesn't mean they aren't exhibiting movement skills or contributing to the overall program- this is absolutely "trending"- a few years ago Vandegrift HS won BOA with nothing but dancers and swing flags... This even trickled into other TX programs who considered getting rid of their color guards and sticking to dancers alone - and an argument to that was to be more competitive and cost effective! 💀 That is OBVIOUSLY crazy!!! My point being, movement matters now- dance technique and skills are contributing to guard indoors and outdoors now more than ever.
  2. ....but that's how color guards get clean? Lol!!! Counting is great for checkpoints and everyone's trying to clean up for the big regional. Not sure how the cleaning process is disappointing. They won't be counting by finals, but that's just how they've been doing it since the 1900's lol
  3. Dome shows are hard for guard, the echo and reverb makes it difficult for timing. I can appreciate a dut dut to make sure a phrase starts together and tosses go up and down at the same time. 🤷 By Allentown I'm sure they'll have those little tweaks engrained in their brains to stop saying things out loud.
  4. There's no denying that Crown Guard is extremely talented! Tarpon Springs Drum & Bugle Corps lol Their opening flag statement is FANTASTIC! I feel like their choreo is a bit repetitive in that they keep the same velocity throughout the whole show and it starts to feel very much of the same throughout. I also think they could be doing more with their movement, the talent is there. Especially considering BD is really leaning into their movement skills this year (as they should, as always). Boston has a great blend of both equipment and movement AND utilizing those rings adds an extra layer of responsibility for performers, and coordinating with others, but they make it look easy! I also think of all "Big Rifle" sections, Boston's is the best IMO. Only thing I will say is I hope they point those marshmallows in an all white costume, unless flexed is what's intended, that's it! The musicality is *chef's kiss* I agree Boston and Crown are programmed to highlight the guard for sure, but Phantom and Bloo are SOOO well written overall! 🔥🔥
  5. That would be incredibly thoughtful! There is no doubt The Cadets organization had an immense impact on the growth of DCI and continues to do so. Many of the best and most influential musicians, educators and designers in our activity stemmed from that incredible drum corps.
  6. Bloo is SO GOOD this year!!! Taking huge risks starting with big isolated tosses from count -5 lol They are SO well coordinated, after watching their family night performance, I fell in love. I hope they win it all this year tbh, my favorite Bluecoats ever! They have had one of the BEST FLAG LINES in DCI for a long minute too. That team can absolutely win the Zingali, they certainly have their own style and seeing how consistent they've become with their weapons, they are definitely on the map! My only worry are the big crazy tricks BD and BAC are doing, it might give them more credit over time once everyone is clean. Bloo has some big advanced skills too, and I hope they get credit for them. I do think the guard has more room for bigger performance qualities and communication- I think that's the one thing their guard competitors have over them- the confidence from the whole team. I would love to see their personalities, they are GREAT technically and I want them to LIVE! They can be the best guard in DCI and make history for the program, they need to believe it's possible. I certainly do!
  7. With so many great colors guards, what do we love about them and who will be on top? Which guards enhance the overall production the best, which are staged well, and which are the best written (unique, impressive & musical choreo)? Who is the most consistent and who is the most entertaining? I love color guard and there are so many great groups this year! Starting with the obvious, IMO- It will be the performance and consistency for Zingali between BD and BAC. Their styles are so different, and their programs really highlight the section. BD has literally created trick tosses we haven't ever seen and move so beautifully, Boston always has an insane skill set and show so much strength while still being effortless. Those 3 judges during finals week better have a microscope out there to see what both groups are bringing to the table. I have much so much more to say about all other groups, but I'd love to hear what y'all think!
