100%!! Me and my sister broke down the show a lot (she's a history major, SUPER into Cold War so I'm kinda summarizing what she said) and it's portraying how children were prepared for nuclear war. Like a TON of motifs from children's PSAs shown in choreo, the overdramatic playfulness of it, bright colors despite the dark scene -

Absolutely LOL. I consider a lot of shows fun that others think are stupid (i.e. 15 minutes of fame) -

Maybe it's just how I watched it but the character of it was clear. They were flaunting that they KNOW who they are, they know the (for lack of a better term) aura they have. They knew they were clean and portrayed it, that's their character to me -

I don't really view Phantom as dark, conceptual and dark are two very different things to me. Like aVANte GUARD isn't dark at all imo, nor is Phantom, but both are conceptual and more artsy shows (nothing wrong with it) -

I don't think ONLY character shows should exist!!! Not by a long shot!! Some of my favorite shows ever are artsy shows -
I don't really know if this is already a thread (I start basically every thread saying that LOL), but it's a bit upsetting to me that corps are splitting into abstract vs clear. There's a lot of shows this year that had CLEAR character-driven shows (BOOM, Observer Effect, Spectator Sport, Crosswalking, Demon Barber of Fleet Street) and even more that were just conceptual (aVANte GUARD, If I Must Fall..., Variations on a Gathering, Point of No Return, Phantom Regiment). I know a lot of innovative shows were conceptual (Tilt, Babylon, etc) but trying to recreate that magic just makes everything seem the same. I just wish more corps would focus on the character building of the story rather than seeming artsy.

my favorite show of all time.
verzephobe replied to DCP NewsFeed's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
2016 Cavaliers or 2023 Mandarins. I'm VERY biased to modern dci lol -
I'm hoping they do something kind of conceptual (?) again like they've done in the past. A lot of their shows have had just one concept and stuck to it (Mad World and the whole rifle thing, Propaganda with propaganda, Shape/Shift with forms and manipulating them in sick ways) and I love when they commit to one theme. I wish they wouldn't be afraid to get cute with it (like 2012 may get made fun of sometimes, but I just think it's so cute as a theme) and just do something fun!! Drum corps doesn't have to be super serious ALL the time!!

Where and when was your first live corps show?
verzephobe replied to wolfgang's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
LOL Yeah I realized in late 2024-ish (I think the night after finals) that I didn't just want to be a fan but I wanted to march with them!! I almost didn't audition for Eclipse because I thought they'd never contract me but I got in and now I'm gonna be marching until my age out 🙂 -

DCI Finals, 2023!! My sister had been pushing me to go with her since ~2018 (since it was so close and she wanted to do drum corps one day), but as a kid I was really noise-sensitive and only got over it in 2022. I remember cheering for everyone but cheering for Mandarins the loudest. From then on I've been completely dedicated to it! Wouldn't trade drum corps for the world -
A lot can happen in 15 years. (G7 proposal)
verzephobe replied to wolfgang's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I've said this for a while, but it's probably the most evil thing to ever be proposed in DCI. I couldn't imagine completely shutting down Open Class except for the nepo babies of World. Maybe it's my perspective from marching a SoundSport group, but almost everybody I've met in SoundSport/Open are talents that World would fiend for, and eliminating support would almost definitely mean that those talents never do corps in general -
Going to watch their rehearsal after school today! Excited to hear it for the first time!!!

Plus a bit of insider knowledge- due to bus issues Eclipse didn’t get to rehearse at the site, so that was a cold run LOL -

Eclipse is a REALLY great corps (even if I’m a little biased), we have some talents who I have to imagine are going to top 10 corps very very soon. Like all of our baritone trio is still in high school (and one in 8th grade I’m pretty sure), it’s just a really promising group to be a part of! And the whole corps feels like a family I’m really hoping we go far 💙🌌 -

LOL Yes we are! We’re really small, all of us fit under the shadow of our truck rn ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ -
Hey y'all! Not super sure if this is the right section of the forums, but whatever. I've been super interested in the Sault St. Marie Bandettes recently, but I can really only find one full performance from 2001. I'm incredibly captivated by their playing and want to see more of their work. Any ideas / resources for finding full shows? Thank you!!

My apologies!! Thread was a spur of the moment thing, pretty sure I actually commented on your question LOL

I find you can have simplicity in concept & still have a really thought-provoking show. Take Propaganda- its concept is literally propaganda, but it took the idea and went above and beyond. I also just don't have that much of an issue with complicated show ideas, like Sinnerman is complex but came across so well!
